Was it to celebrate Protestantism or was it to celebrate the advances made towards unity?
the second article confirmed the first and their have been four events "celebrating the reformation"

how do you celebrate the reformation in any sense of the word?

These men prove themselves by their actions. It’s rotten fruit they are sowing.

Again, is the service celebrating the reformation or the progress made since the reformation?
what progress? have you seen what is being pushed in protestant circles today? anything goes and it is ok with God.

An ecumenical service defames a parish building how?
celebrating the reformation is not an ecumenical service. it is just a celebration of revolt. imho

do the english celebrate the loss of the colonies?

would you allow them to give their communion at the altar?

  1. You are entitled to your opinion. It appears that the Bishop in question is of a different opinion and he has authority in this matter.
  2. I’ve had Brit friends over for my 4th of July picnic. They had a great time!
You might want to give this document a read

a long read, maybe later (i did send to kindle for further review).

quote the section that says you can celebrate the reformation at the altar?

the issue isn’t the service it is the location. imho

There are many non-Eucharist, non-Sacramental things celebrated “at the altar”.

Weddings between an unbaptized person and a Catholic.

School graduations, awards presentations, music concerts.

These things happen just about every day at one parish or another around the world. The Blessed Sacrament is moved to the Tabernacle of Repose.

these are not celebrating the breakup of the church.

why be catholic if luther was right? he believed once save you could sin with just about immunity because your sins are already forgiven?

this is different and we will agree to disagree on that.

I made no such implications. I merely stated a fact from a previous era that Bishops are not always correct. I trust that this Bishop is doing what He thinks is correct.

If I’m not mistaken, the 2nd article used the Church Militant as a source. Perhaps I misread.

ETA: Yep, seems I was confused. I googled it earlier and found an article that used Church Militant as a source, that’s what I was thinking of. The Catholic Herald used the words “celebrate the reformation” so perhaps I am mistaken.

they disrupted a reformation celebration
I don’t believe it is proper to disrupt a church service. Yes, you can protest but in a proper manner, either outside the church or say the rosary outside or inside the church at a time when it is not disruptive.

YMMV but to me a service celebrating the break up of the church isn’t a church service

YMMV has one meaning of you make me vomit, which I can understand if you disagree with that particular church celebration. But I think you should protest in a dignified and non-disruptive way. I don’t agree with being rude and disrupting or interfering with scheduled meetings or celebrations. If you disagree and want to protest, I think you should hold your own separate meeting or march, etc., and not go around disrupting and interfering with other people’s events.

i think the altar of God deserves more respect than to have a false preacher celebrate the breaking up of the church from it.

In 2015, the church voted to ordain openly gay and lesbian pastors.[3] Ordination of women and blessings of same-sex marriages are allowed.

^ If I could “like” this ten times I would! Well said!

Maybe it is the term? The Vatican uses the term “commemoration”.

From the Vatican document “From Conflict to Communion”

Preparing for commemoration (bold mine):
  1. As members of one body, Catholics and Lutherans remember together the events of the Reformation that led to the reality that thereafter they lived in divided communities even though they still belonged to one body. That is an impossible possibility and the source of great pain. Because they belong to one body, Catholics and Lutherans struggle in the face of their division toward the full catholicity of the church. This struggle has two sides: the recognition of what is common and joins them together, and the recognition of what divides. The first is reason for gratitude and joy; the second is reason for pain and lament.
  2. In 2017, when Lutheran Christians celebrate the anniversary of the beginning of the Reformation, they are not thereby celebrating the division of the Western church. No one who is theologically responsible can celebrate the division of Christians from one another.

At the beginning of the same document, the focus is on “commemoration”:
  1. The year 2017 will see the first centennial commemoration of the Reformation to take place during the ecumenical age. It will also mark fifty years of Lutheran–Roman Catholic dialogue. As part of the ecumenical movement, praying together, worshipping together, and serving their communities together have enriched Catholics and Lutherans. They also face political, social, and economic challenges together. The spirituality evident in interconfessional marriages has brought forth new insights and questions. Lutherans and Catholics have been able to reinterpret their theological traditions and practices, recognizing the influences they have had on each other. Therefore, they long to commemorate 2017 together.
  2. These changes demand a new approach. It is no longer adequate simply to repeat earlier accounts of the Reformation period, which presented Lutheran and Catholic perspectives separately and often in opposition to one another. Historical remembrance always selects from among a great abundance of historical moments and assimilates the selected elements into a meaningful whole. Because these accounts of the past were mostly oppositional, they not infrequently intensified the conflict between the confessions and sometimes led to open hostility.
  3. The historical remembrance has had material consequences for the relationship of the confessions to each other. For this reason, a common ecumenical remembrance of the Lutheran Reformation is both so important and at the same time so difficult. Even today, many Catholics associate the word “Reformation” first of all with the division of the church, while many Lutheran Christians associate the word “Reformation” chiefly with the rediscovery of the gospel, certainty of faith and freedom. It will be necessary to take both points of departure seriously in order to relate the two perspectives to each other and bring them into dialogue.

will the church allow these pastors to celebrate mass at the altar of the Lord? it was the wrong place to hold the service.
