Young people today have lost ‘moral vocabulary,’ says Archbishop Chaput

Addressing a conference in British Columbia, Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver asserted that Catholics today have failed to transmit the faith to the next generation, which has resulted in young people losing their “moral vocabulary.”
I don’t think that this is limited to typically who we would call “young people,” but would impact a lot of us who were raised from the 60s and 70s and forward. We can see that in the positions they take politically, the heterodox attitudes many of them take on life issues, homosexuality, female ordination, and so on.

And now we, in many cases, have the ignorant teaching the young. Scary situation.

The problem is an old one in a new guise - namely, greed. The world offers us young people the riches of the world if we but forsake God. And in today’s society, the riches of the world are very, very alluring.

This is quite the story isn’t it, to watch how reactions to grave evil have changed within the course of a single generation.

Without religion, it is not just belief in the Divine that has been lost in secular society, but the loss includes a language which is capable of sorting the good from the evil. To be recognized, evil must first have a language that is capable of describing it.

Universities are vast storehouses of knowledge, but unless they provide students with a language capable of valuations, they are indeed without wisdom of any kind.

I agree with our Archbishop on this! It’s really scary.

Oh come on… It’s not a wonder -especially when we have men committing sucude bombings in the name of “God”…

We’ve got video games where kids run aroiund killing zombies, 24 hour texting, television that blurrs our morals, and schools filled with the liberal agenda of “tolerance”…

If we cannot evade the influence of this generation, we’re sure to die along side of it. Now is the time to retreat and take cover.

I agree totally. And what is more sad is Where the Heck are the Parents?

Seems to me the parents are just as lost as the children.

This whole Consumerism and Entertainment Age is Satan’s lure to keep human souls from focusing on God, who is most regrettably deliberately placed on an obscure back burner devoid of any light.

Parents cannot give anything of God within their hearts to their children what they don’t possess themselves. This is heart-wrenching and so very sad.
