I am interesting to know about Catholic point of view about younger husband. What is the tollerable range of age(according to the Catholic Church), when the husband is younger than the wife?

I have used to think that it is ok if the difference is about 2 or 3 years, but I also found spouses who have difference of age more than 3 years, even 7 years (the husband is younger).

What is the Scripture or Tradition says about this?

Love doesn’t know age. I can’t see the reason why any two should not marry based solely on age, given that both parties are of a legal age and consent to the marriage.

I think it depends on the people personally. I’ve dated someone who was a few years younger than me, but I usually date someone who’s older; and then I usually say no more than ten years’ age difference. Now, that’s just a guideline. I have no idea the plans God has for me so I’m open to His guidance.

I also think it depends on the age of the people dating. The difference between someone who’s 30 and 20 is HUGE while the difference between 30 and 40 is not so huge.

Church law on Matrimony is found here. The impediments start at 1073.

Now, these younger men- Nobody’s kidnapped them, have they? Kidnapping and forcing a marriage nullifies it. But simply being younger than the bride does not.

One of my sisters is married to a man 15 1/2 years her junior. Technically speaking, as he was baptized, confirmed and raised Catholic and she was raised Catholic to the point where her Confirmation name is that of a great saint, they should be easily convalidated. Her first marriage ended in the death of her husband. Her second marriage was not rectified before a priest and two witnesses and ended in divorce. Her young man (in every sense of the word) was never previously married. It would be a simple matter with a decree as to lack of form. But as she professes to anybody who will listen that she is no longer a Catholic, 🤷 one can only pray for them and wish them well. The age factor has nothing to do with it.

That’s cos Paula hangs around Starbucks lookin to get free coffee from college boys that hit on her. LOL.

I’m thinkin Paula’s ideal man is-

Mature

Southern

Catholic

Not neccessarily in that order. Am I wrong?

OK, fess up Guy - are you trying to marry off your son?

I am 7 years younger than my hubby and it hasn’t mattered at all. I’m a young 60 and he’s a mature 53. We’ve been married 25 years and are more deeply in love and committed to each other than the day of our wedding. Now, how many people of the same age in our age-obsessed culture can say that these days? 😉

That ain’t a bad idea, he’s got 2 of the 3, but she’d have to work on his maturity even though he’s 28. He still likes hanging out too much. LOL.

But I dunno how Paula could handle having ME as a FIL… LOL. Which parish would ya wanna use Paula? Ours or yours?

If both people are of age and get along well I think there is nothing. One of my aunts married a man eight years younger than her and they are a great couple they have a lot of things in common and get along well.

I think I would do very well with you as a FIL, Bama. You’d certainly keep me laughing which is always a good thing.

Isn’t it tradition to use the bride’s parish?

Well Paula if ya marry in we come as a package deal. Meggie and D can bring ya up to speed on what ya need to know to deal with the men in the family.

You want a Tammy Faye ring for Christmas?

Paula, if you do, you better let Guy & Deb, as well as Joseph and Meggie know when Taco Night is- you know how important that is to a good marriage and extended family relationships!😃

Back onto the original topic, the biggest problem that I see with a younger husband is the issue of kids and what expectations there are with regards to having kids. It is always an important discussion, but I think it is even more important when there is a greater age difference.

Paula, just remember all of the stories about Guy here. Also remember that they are an Alabama family so you’ll have to deal with all of that roll tide stuff which may be hard to swallow if you are a Texan.

I remember one time that my dw and I were in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on our way to Nashville. We stopped to eat lunch at a Chili’s. After we paid, the bill, my dw asked the waiter (a college student) what there was in the town. He proceeded to tell us about the Bear Bryant this and Bear Bryant that. So my wife innocently asked who Bear Bryant was. Before the waiter could respond, I piped in that he was the former coach of Texas A&M where he coached his only Hiesman Trophy winner. The waiter was not pleased:D T

First – of course I want a Tammy Fay ring. There’s absolutely no question about that.

Second – as far as I’m concerned, every night could be Taco Night – just switch it among the houses 😃

Finally – I would have absolutely no problem with the Alabama Crimson Tide thing as long as it’s perfect understood that I’m a die-hard Aggie fan, I bleed maroon, and there will be an Aggie flag flying from my front porch:D I’ll even cheer on the Crimson Tide as long as they’re not playing the Aggies then all bets are off.

My dh is 10.5 yrs younger than me… but the women in my family are known for their longevity… just lost my grandma couple yrs ago at 104 yrs old…

I am 45 and my dh is 35…

Aggie Fan? Could be worse, like a AUBURN FAN. I’ll say this, if you’re still with them after the last few years, then I respect ya, for sticking in the bad times.

Wed night=taco night. Lately been altering between our house and my nephews, but if ya move to Alabama, we can expand, by coming to your house for tacos every 3rd Wednesday. Be warned my son is worse in the kitchen then me, after all I trained him.

Is Dixe Bell a native Texan?

Excuse me, but Wed. is Prince spaghetti day!

I guess if you had a daughter and I married into your family we’d have a conflict right away.
Nooooooooooooo Wed is taco night. Sheesh can’t be changing that.
