And another thing, the Reynolds liners seem to be for round crock pots and mine is oval.My package of Reynolds liners says they are not to be used for storage of leftovers. Does anyone know of a brand that is suitable for leftovers and where to get them?

This sounds yummy.I just made my favorite dish in the crock pot a couple of weeks ago.
Take several country pork ribs (I think they may also be called picnic ribs-- they are the thick meaty pork ribs, not baby back ribs)
Jack Daniels Barbeque sauce-- as much or as little as you like. I use about a half a small bottle.
1/2 to 1 cup of whiskey.
Place the ribs in the crock
Mix the whiskey and the bbq sauce together and pour over the ribs.
Cook on low for 8-10 hours.
When the ribs are done, remove them from the sauce.
Put the sauce in a saucepan on the stove and reduce to thicken. Use as a gravy for the ribs and pour over mashed potatoes.
Hmm, I bought several liner boxes at once and stocked up (it was about a year ago I believe) but the ones I bought were oval since my crock pot is oval too, the bigger kind. The pack comes with 4 liners. I hope they still sell them! And another thing, the Reynolds liners seem to be for round crock pots and mine is oval.
I buy them all the time, and there are lots of oval ones out there.Hmm, I bought several liner boxes at once and stocked up (it was about a year ago I believe) but the ones I bought were oval since my crock pot is oval too, the bigger kind. The pack comes with 4 liners. I hope they still sell them!
Take a cue from Granny Clampett and plug in the slow cooker outside or in a garage.Me too! The only problem is that the crock pot really heats up the kitchen a lot, which is nice in the winter. We’ve been having temps in the 90’s and 100’s lately, and I’m grilling most of my food now.
You are right. I went to Walmart today and saw them there. They are for both oval and round, 3 to 6.5 quart slow cookers. Here is the link to their site:I buy them all the time, and there are lots of oval ones out there.
I’ll do mine on the back porch sometimes, on a warm day.Take a cue from Granny Clampett and plug in the slow cooker outside or in a garage.
Do you guys know if it is really nessessary to use the onion soup mix, if you are using real onions? I’m trying this today with homemade apple sauce & apple juice, but I don’t have any onion mix on hand, just real onions. I thought maybe the onion soup is just a time saver.don’t know if anyone gave this recipe or a variation of it yet–but this is a favorite:
anything pork–chops ribs roast
can of applesauce plus 1/2 can of water (or jar–but I use the plain in the can, no need for the fancy dessert kind)
1-2 envelope(s) of onion soup mix (adjust for saltiness and how much meat)
2 large onions sliced into rings
1 can apple pie filling plus 1/2 can water (this is second half-can of water to rinse out cans!)
altogether in the pot over night—brown meat on high heat then simmer on low. serve this with buttery mashed potatoes (with cracked black pepper) and drained sauerkraut.
oh yeah I forgot—make a gravy out of the liquid or save it in the applesauce jar to use as a quick marinade for chicken or pork, or you can blend it in the blender with a can of tomato paste and you have a great sloppy joe sauce!
We prefer real onions and low sodium broth to onion soup mix - that mix can make things WAY too salty.Do you guys know if it is really nessessary to use the onion soup mix, if you are using real onions? It’ll be the first time I cook pork in the crockpot.

you can substitute the broth if salt is a problem, but you can also get low- sodium onion soup mix or beef bouillion. it is very flavorful, with just onions and water or broth you will have a much milder flavor and will need to add some herbs and spices I would think. We prefer real onions and low sodium broth to onion soup mix - that mix can make things WAY too salty.
