My package of Reynolds liners says they are not to be used for storage of leftovers. Does anyone know of a brand that is suitable for leftovers and where to get them?

Betsy
And another thing, the Reynolds liners seem to be for round crock pots and mine is oval.

I just cooked fish in my crockpot for the 1st time last week. I defrosted it first. Only took a couple hours. Mixed one can cream of mushroom soup with one can of water, put half of that on bottom, topped that with fish (tilapia fillets), then seasoned rice & vegetables, cooked, but cold. Cover with rest of soup. It came out like a hearty fish stew, very yummy.

I just made my favorite dish in the crock pot a couple of weeks ago.

Take several country pork ribs (I think they may also be called picnic ribs-- they are the thick meaty pork ribs, not baby back ribs)

Jack Daniels Barbeque sauce-- as much or as little as you like. I use about a half a small bottle.

1/2 to 1 cup of whiskey.

Place the ribs in the crock
Mix the whiskey and the bbq sauce together and pour over the ribs.
Cook on low for 8-10 hours.

When the ribs are done, remove them from the sauce.
Put the sauce in a saucepan on the stove and reduce to thicken. Use as a gravy for the ribs and pour over mashed potatoes.
This sounds yummy.🙂

Hmm, I bought several liner boxes at once and stocked up (it was about a year ago I believe) but the ones I bought were oval since my crock pot is oval too, the bigger kind. The pack comes with 4 liners. I hope they still sell them!

I buy them all the time, and there are lots of oval ones out there.

Me too! The only problem is that the crock pot really heats up the kitchen a lot, which is nice in the winter. We’ve been having temps in the 90’s and 100’s lately, and I’m grilling most of my food now.
Take a cue from Granny Clampett and plug in the slow cooker outside or in a garage.

don’t know if anyone gave this recipe or a variation of it yet–but this is a favorite:

anything pork–chops ribs roast
can of applesauce plus 1/2 can of water (or jar–but I use the plain in the can, no need for the fancy dessert kind)
1-2 envelope(s) of onion soup mix (adjust for saltiness and how much meat)
2 large onions sliced into rings
1 can apple pie filling plus 1/2 can water (this is second half-can of water to rinse out cans!)
altogether in the pot over night—brown meat on high heat then simmer on low. serve this with buttery mashed potatoes (with cracked black pepper) and drained sauerkraut.
oh yeah I forgot—make a gravy out of the liquid or save it in the applesauce jar to use as a quick marinade for chicken or pork, or you can blend it in the blender with a can of tomato paste and you have a great sloppy joe sauce!

Do you guys know if it is really nessessary to use the onion soup mix, if you are using real onions? I’m trying this today with homemade apple sauce & apple juice, but I don’t have any onion mix on hand, just real onions. I thought maybe the onion soup is just a time saver.

It’ll be the first time I cook pork in the crockpot.

We prefer real onions and low sodium broth to onion soup mix - that mix can make things WAY too salty.

you can substitute the broth if salt is a problem, but you can also get low- sodium onion soup mix or beef bouillion. it is very flavorful, with just onions and water or broth you will have a much milder flavor and will need to add some herbs and spices I would think.

I found the liners at WalMart…I’m going to use them this week!

Thanks!

Can you tell I used to work all day and still have to have dinner prepared. Not any more, but I still love my crock pot!!

Honey Garlic Pork

Any cut pork roast (or chops, spareribs, etc.) 2-3 lbs.
1/2 cup honey
1/4 soy sauce
3 tbsp. cider vinegar
3-5 cloves of garlic
1/4 tsp. pepper

Add all the above ingredients except pork, mix together, then add pork and cook on low for 8 hours
bjj, that was supposed to be 1/4 cup of soy sauce, right?

Easy 3 Ingredient Turkey Breast Recipe

a. 1 or 2 turkey breasts
b. 1 package dry onion soup mix
c. apple juice
Place turkey in crock pot. Sprinkle with soup mix. Cover with apple juice. Cook on low all day while you are at work. Serve with Stove Top Dressing, rice or potatoes, green salad. Looks fancy, smells wonderful, tastes delicious, really easy!

the soup mix can make it too salty
you can also just add a boullion cube or two instead

The pork roast came out really good and tender. 😛 Thanks all for your suggestions. I’ll try chicken next time.
