Oh, I forgot to say you can add onion, garlic etc to the roast (or whatever you are cooking), and if you don’t like eating these but like their flavors you can put them in a tied up piece of cheesecloth.

This is a local comfort food thing here in the midwest

1 whole chicken
water
2 pkg frozen roma noodles
4 bullion cubes
any seasonings you wish (poultry seasoning, garlic, dill, parsley, etc)
salt and pepper
optional: carrots, peas or corn (fresh or frozen)

put chicken and seasonings in crockpot cover with water and cook until meat is falling off the bone (minimum 4 hours). Take chicken out and debone it. put meat back in and add optional items and noodles. Cook another 3 hours on low. If you like the broth a little thicker, add some flour and water that has been mixed well. Carrots can take a long time to cook, so if you add those, add as early as possible and cook at least 4 hours and wait to add noodles until 1-2 hours before serving.

After you put noodles in, make homemade mashed potatoes and serve chicken and noodles over the potatoes… not a quick and easy, but definitely a good comfort food!!!

Italian ravioli stew

2 cans Italian style tomatoes
2 cans chicken or vegetable broth
1 cup onions
1 cup carrots
1 can beans of your choice (I prefer garbanzos)
1 teaspoon basil

combine and cook on low 6 or more hours. When you’re ready, turn up to high and add however much frozen cheese or meat ravioli (I use cheese) you like. I usually toss in a whole packet. Cook on high about 8-10 minutes. Eat and enjoy!! Very yummy and very easy.

Have you tried putting in a packet of onion soup mix and a can of cream of mushroom soup w/ it? It is delicious!!!
Yes, it is part of my brother’s vegetable soup recipe, which I can never remember and always have to email him whenever I want to make it.

I got this from Gourmet Magazine and it was tasty. I’ve used different chicken pieces (thighs or breast meat), but the legs are really flavorable when slow-cooked. You may want to double the sauce ingredients for more sauce to service over rice and, if needed, thicken it with flour/water or cornstarch.👍

Chicken Paprikash With Sour Cream

2 medium onions, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon sweet paprika
1 teaspoon hot paprika (or a dash of red pepper flakes)
1 garlic clove, peeled and halved
3 pounds chicken legs
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons olive oil
1 1/2 teaspoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup chicken stock or low-sodium chicken broth
1/4 cup sour cream
Fresh chopped dill for garnish if desired

In slow cooker, stir together onions, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and paprika. Spread mixture evenly over bottom of insert. This makes it real soft and part of the sauce once the dish is done.

Rub garlic halves over chicken, then sprinkle chicken with pepper and remaining 1/2 teaspoon salt. In medium saucepan over moderately high heat, heat butter and oil until hot but not smoking. Add chicken pieces and brown, turning occasionally, until golden, about 6 minutes. Transfer to slow cooker (do not clean pan), layering chicken on top of onion mixture. Don’t skip this step because browning the meat adds to the flavor and color of the dish.

In same saucepan over high heat, bring stock to simmer, scraping up browned bits from bottom of pan. Pour over chicken in slow cooker, cover, and cook on low until chicken is tender but not falling off bone, 5 to 6 hours.

Stir sour cream into sauce. Garnish with dill and serve.

I am attempting to teach myself how to cook meals and someone told me to start out with crock pot recipes since I am away at school all day. So, I am asking you to post your favorite EASY crock pot recipe. Thanks for the help! Also, any tips you have for streamlining meal preparation would be most appreciated! God bless…
my favorite crock pot recipes are pot roast and stew:) but when i get my crock pot, i might make chili in it! mmm!👍

My husband loves corned beef in the crock pot. with 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1 cup of apple juice, potatoes, carrots, onions and a little dry mustard. We don’t have it too often, as it isn’t the healthiest, but I have found whatever is the cheapest meat works best, with some veggies and broth served over rice is just so good.

potatoes, carrots
beef roast
pkg onion soup mix
1 can cola (but not diet)

cook on low

I’m lovin’ looking at all of these great recipes. I’m just going to make a footnote here, and say that I recommend getting those plastic liners for the crockpot. It makes clean up sooooo much easier. I used to have to soak my crock pot for hours to get all of the cooked on stuff out of there, but the liners take that chore away.

Chilli in the Crockpot

ground beef (optional to brown first) (about 1 lb)
crushed garlic (or flakes), salt, crushed red chilli peppers
1pkg onion soup mix
1 can diced tomatoes
1 can red kidney beans

cook in slow cooker for 6-8 hours
serve with warm baguette or corn bread and a salad

Ooh I second this. I love my liners.

That first cool snap in the air at night means crock pot season is coming!!! Mmmmmm- you all have me craving a nice roast this weekend.

Here is my favorite:

1 large pork butt roast (4-5lbs)
Three green apples cut in wedges
TONS of sliced onion (two good hand fulls) - sorry, I don’t measure much
One can or bag of sauerkraut (Silver Floss is the best), drained (optional)
Caraway seeds
Natural apple juice (cider is too sweet)

Put it all in the crock pot and cook about 8-10 hours on low. Serve over egg noodles. It is soooooo good with the apple juice which helps to tenderize the already falling apart roast, but doesn’t make it sweet.

LOL!!! I have had a box of liners in the drawer for over a year now! Every single time I use the darn crock pot I don’t remember to use them till after it’s already cooking. 🤷 Maybe because I’m putting dinner in at 7:30 in the morning, might have something to do with it. 😊

Maybe you could store the box of liners in your crock pot (when it’s not in use of course :rotfl: ). 👍

Something that is great in a crock pot - turkey! You can get a smallish breast and thow it in the crock put, some poultry seasoning, some broth and let it cook. It is like Thanksgiving any time of year 🙂

If you search Food Network’s web site, you can find Paula Dean’s fantastic crock-pot mac and cheese recipe.

One bit of advice for beef in the crock pot - if you brown it in the skillet first it will be tastier AND will not get that kinda grey look slow cooked beef can get.

Take a roast, salt pepper it and then brown in a hot skillet with olive oil.

Move it to the crock pot with some good red wine and some strong coffee, some onions and garlic, a bit of Thyme. Cook it all day. YUMMY.

I use my crockpot constantly! I have a couple of crockpot cookbooks. One of my husband’s favorite recipes is “Spicy Italian Beef”

1 boneless beef chuck roast (3-4 lbs)
1 jar (12 oz) peperoncini
1 can (14 1/2 oz) beef broth
1 bottle (12 oz) beer
1 onion, peeled and minced
2 TBSP Italian herb blend
1 loaf french bread, cut into thick slices (or your favorite buns/rolls)
provolone cheese (optional)
  1. Trim fat from roast, cut if necessary to fit in slow cooker.
  2. Drain peperoncini; pull off stem ends and discard. Add peperoncini, broth, beer, onion, and herb blend; do not stir. Cover and cook on low 8-10 hours.
  3. Remove meat, shred, and return to cooker. Mix well.
Serve on bread/rolls topped with cheese, if desired.
    Yummy!!
Nothing beats crockpot chili made with home-canned tomatoes!
Classic cabbage rolls, beef stroganoff and crock-pot pizza are also big hits.
