In honor of All Saints Day, please let us know who (can be more than one), favorite Saint and why. How has that saint touched your life, was it in their writing, or example or answered prayers.
thanks!

Blessed Theodore Romzha, who’s feast day was celebrated yesterday on the Calendar of the Byzantine Catholic Church. He is my favorite (among others) because he is an example of a modern martyr, who’s courage we might each need to emulate some day. He led his flock with courage and faith, preparing each of them for the martyrdom that they might be called to face under the soviet government.

This was posted on the Facebook page in his honor yesterday:

**Today is the feat of our glorious patron. On this night he was murdered in his hospital room by the Soviet agent Odarka, who used poison sent from Moscow to kill him. When Sister Teofilia and the other nuns rushed in, he was already dying, and he asked them to put him down on the floor, according to the custom in his native Maramoros region. And his last words? “Jesus, Jesus, Jesus.” At his funeral, he was vested in red, the color of a martyr, not in white. The Soviets told Father Muranyi to change the vestments to white, and he bravely refused. With that simple act, they proclaimed to all of Transcarpathia, that Bishop Romzha was a Martyr for the Faith and for Catholic unity. May he be our helper and our inspiration!

Ok, my “main” favorite is St. Dymphna, who is the patron saint of those who are mentally ill, and the care givers of the mentally ill. Why? Because I have more than one diagnosis of mental illness. Mainly, Major Depression, OCD, Anxiety Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder. Oh, and can’t forget ADD.

After that, I once would have included the "Little flower, " St. Therese, but she is currently overshadowed by our great mother, Mary. And, funny as it may sound, I don’t necessarily note blue as her color. Maybe it’s her main one, but when I think of her, it makes me think pink. 🤷

I Do not have a favorite one, but I have to said that I really have a big admiration for Saint Peter, He was very close to Jesus, and love him so much, he also have the keys of the Kingdom of heaven. I can just imagine when he say to Jesus You are the Son of God, the Messiah wow, also I think St Francis of Assisi was a great Saint, I think we all can learn from all, specially the way to love and respect Jesus and the church, also the way to love poor and sick people.

I like St.Thomas.

Even though Thomas had direct experience of Jesus Christ, the person, Thomas could still not bring himself to truly believe in His resurrection despite that proximity.
Thomas reflects the human capacity to doubt.

But.
When Thomas witnessed the resurrected Christ, he immediately submitted to Him.

Sts Stephen and Paul. St Stephen because he was the one of the first deacons and protomatyr (plus I was born on his feast day ;)). St Paul because his dramatic conversion is so close to my own.

You could also throw in St Martin of Tours just for good measure. 😃

Pax Christi!

So many to choose from…

The Blessed Virgin May, first of all. I’ve consecrated myself to Her.

St. James the Greater is my Confirmation saint.

St Christopher has helped me many times in travelling.

St. Therese of Lisieux is such a sweetheart!

And because I love medieval history, women who speak truth to power, and La Belle France, I would pick up a sword and foloow St. Joan of Arc into battle ANYTIME AND ANYWHERE!!

Theank God for the Heavenly Saints!!

God bless!

I feel like St. Francis of Assisi has always been there for me. Even when I was LDS, I was fascinated and moved by the way Jesus lived his life - no pomp or circumstance. St. Francis of Assisi lived a life with a focus on God and his people (and all his creatures), marrying Lady Poverty.

When I started thinking about Confirmation Saints, I really wanted to find a female saint who strongly connected with me. But it never happened. I am moved by how St. Francis of Assisi cared for women and accepted women like Jesus did, making a place and helping form a path for St. Clare of Assisi.

Because of our patriarchal society, Jesus, St. Francis of Assisi, and I am sure other male saints have done more for women than women could have done/were allowed to do for themselves. So the lives of men who have aided women in living the lives they were called to live really seem to speak to me. They feel like friends, which is how I like to connect, rather than like role models.

Besides, before I formally started the conversion process, my atheist younger sister gave me a St. Francis of Assisi charm from the Vatican gift shop. So I feel he has been a friend, praying for me, for this entire process. 🙂

From biblical times:

St Paul the Apostle. I chose him for my patron saint for confirmation. Funny how as I grew up (and even during my heathen times away from the Church), I came to have some of his characteristics. I love organization, I love encouraging others, I have a heart for those who remain outside of the Church – those who are not pious at all. These are all gifts. So I cannot boast. Just saying. I like to think St. Paul prayed for me without even me asking.

From more recent times:

St Pio of Pietrelcina. I was fascinated with him as a child. The stigmata drew me in but reading about how devout and humble he was in the midst of detractors even within the Church made me wish to be like him as much as I could. He says, “Pray, hope and do not worry.” Those are very good words to live by.

Dunno if he will ever be a “Saint” but Michael Anthony Mead took my brother and I in. He was a former monk who took care of the neighborhood kids who in almost all cases had no father to speak of. He helped to bring my brother and me into the Catholic Church. He really did embody the spirit of “Preach the Gospel but use words when only absolutely necessary.” He passed away in 2005. I pray that he is in heaven now and prays for me and my family as we remember him especially today and tomorrow.

Thanks for the topic. It was good to share. Peace be with all of you.

I don’t say Mary … Because she is more than a saint For me She’s my Mother 👍

I think the name sat it all Saints, they were special. Happy all days Saints for all

My top 6

  1. *]Anyone in the Holy Family (Mary, Joseph etc.)
    *]Pope John Paul II
    *]St. Michael
    *]St. Padre Pio
    *]St. Therese of Liseux
    *]St. Jude

  1. St. Faustina:
Not only did she do just as Jesus told her to do, but she also suffered greatly for others, and brought to light a new devotion, the Divine Mercy. I feel she is with me, and she helps to direct me to where I need to be in my conversion process, and throughout the day in my spiritual life.
  2. St. Sebastian:
I’ve been (slowly) starting to run again after severely injuring my ankles about 2 years ago. I, and my Dad, didn’t think I would ever be able to “run” again, because of my injury. Even though St. Sebastian is the patron saint of runners, and not the patron saint of healing ankles, I believe he has somehow helped my ankles to heal so I can prepare to run for the WWP next October.
  3. St. Anthony of Padua:
Whenever I lose something, I automatically pray to him to help me find my lost item. So far, he’s never led me wrong!

Benedict.

I’m a Benedictine oblate, so that should be a clue 😉

St. Ignatius of Loyola. The Spiritual Exercises and Ignatian spirituality in general have helped me in too many ways to list! 😃

My Favourite Saint and my patron is Saint Rose of Lima.

As I was just beginning RCIA last year, I asked God to show me the Saint He wanted me to imitate and to be my patron, and later that day I opened my book of Saints and there she was! I love her for her love of God and her willingness to severe penances. She endured so much and I hope to visit her home in Peru one day. She has brought me so close to the humanity and divinity of Christ.

I also have a devotion to Saint Aloysius Gonzaga, because he was about the same age as me and he has helped me on my way to conquering sins of Impurity. I also really like him because of his devotion to Mary, the greatest of all the Saints.

Happy All Saints Day!

Saint Rose and Saint Aloysius Pray for us! All Saints intercede for the holy people of God!

My favorite is Saint Josephine Bahkita, even though she is the patron saint of Sudan. Just last year, EWTN was showing a movie about her and at the time I didn’t want to have anything to do with the Church, but my mother insisted that I watch the movie and in order to make my mother happy I turned the TV to EWTN but still continued playing my computer game. Well, lets just say I became captivated by her and her story…long story short…I am back with the Roman Catholic Church. 🙂

The funny part is that everyone found it strange that I would pick her as my confirmation saint. I have nothing in common with her. lol

St. Catherine of Siena - her writings placed an understanding in my heart to believe in the Catholic Church
St. Francis of Assisi - for his life of poverty and charity
St. Photini (also known as St. Svetlana) - for believing in Jesus even though she was socially marginalized
St. Mary of Egypt - for her act of contrition and repentance in the desert
St. Therese of Lisieux - for her encouragement of humble acts of devotion and piety

I tend to think of Mary as more than saint…who else is the Mother of God?

The stories I am reading that people have posted are wonderful ways to learn a bit more about some saints we don’t yet know. All the saints are blessed as are the lives they have touched, and I am rejoicing! For me, one holds a very special place among the other wonderful saints. La Pucelle, the Maid of Orléans! Saint Joan is especially dear to me.

I fell in love with her years ago, even when I was an unbeliever. Ultimately the conflict of my belief in her true story and my disbelief in God came to a head… and overnight I was converted by the grace of God (and I am sure, thanks to the intercessions of sweet Saint Joan of Arc)

Sometimes it is hard for me to think about God in a pure and loving way as opposed to a detached way, but it is not so hard with Joan, and my love for her leads me bit by bit (I hope!) to the Father from whom all love spills forth.

“Je n’ai pas peur des soldats, car ma route m’a été ouverte, et si les soldats viennent, j’ai Dieu, mon Seigneur, qui saura comment libérer la route qui mène à Sieur le Dauphin. C’est pour cela que je fus nais.”

So far, I wanted to thank everyone for posting. I found every post to be very touching and personal. Whether someone mentioned a well known saint or even a lesser known saint, what every poster shared has been just beautiful and uplifting. I hope more will join the thread. thanks again to everyone so far.
