St. Vincent de Paul. He was a friend to the sick, lonely, and poor.

King David has always been my favorite person in the scriptures because of the psalms and because of his rise and fall and rise in life. I also like Judith a lot in the Catholic Bible, cause she dresses up to make herself look pretty and then goes into the enemy camp and cuts the enemy general’s head off and walks out with it in her bread sack. That’s like… super hot. I guess I have a penchant for violent OT characters.

I also started wearing a pendant of Mary as a crutch during times of temptation. John Chrysostom and Thomas More are my favorite post-Biblical saints.

Since I was young, I have always liked St. John Bosco. I was given a book about him when I was maybe 7 years old. I also have a book that has some pictures of him in it. He just seems down to earth.
I also like reading about Mother Teresa, what she did, and things she said.
One I would like to know more is Ven. Fulton Sheen. A few years ago I heard some clips from his radio show, and I read a quote here and there from him.

St. Anthony of Padua
St. Thomas Aquinas
St. Ignatius of Loyola
St. Thomas Moore
St. Augustine
St. Marron
St Jerome
St. Peter
St. Paul
St. Luke
St. Ambrose
St. George
St. Therese de Liesuex
St. Nicholas
St. Benedict

I have several:
  1. St. Peregrine Laziosi=led me back to Christ and ultimately the Catholic Church.
  2. Blessed Maurus Scott=an English martyr from Reformation times who inspired me with what he said at his death. As he was about to be hanged, he gave his executioner a bag of coins and said to him, ““Take these, friend, for love of me. I give them to you with good will and gladly do I forgive you my death.””
  3. St. Philomena=a Greek princess martyred for her faith in the 3rd century AD. I like the fact that she is one of the early Christian martyrs and is patroness of the living rosary. I enjoy wearing the Cord of St. Philomena and praying the St. Philomena chaplet.
  4. Ven. Sister Maria of Agreda=a 17th century Spanish nun who had the gift of bilocation. Her body is incorruptible and I believe she visited me by giving me the smell of jasmine flowers.
  5. St. Adrian of Nicomedia, St. Theodore of Amasea, St. Marcellus the Centurion, St. Expedite, St. Michael the Archangel, St. Joan of Arc, St. Demetrius of Thessaloniki, St. Martin of Tours, St. Mercurius=soldiers who were and are faithful to God.
I have many more but that’s a good start.

St. Francis of Assisi. In my personal opinion I think he is the Saint closest to God besides St. Joseph and obviously not counting Our Lady. I recently heard a tradition that says that he was given the throne that Lucifer lost when he fell because St. Francis is the humblest. I could go on and on. He was the first Saint I watched a movie about or read about. He led a life so closely to that of Jesus’ life in all its details and he had the stigmata! I love GK Chesterton’s bio of him. He is just glorious.

others:

St. Teresa of Avila is getting up there in my life. I’ve been reading her writings A LOT lately and she’s helping me tons. I read her when I first became Catholic, but I didn’t understand her that much so I went on to other things. But, now, years later, I’m able to understand her so much better and I’m discovering she was great.

St. Louis de Montford. I love his books. They are sublimely beautiful and probably my favorite writings of any Saint just because I can feel the love and faith he had just from the way he wrote.

there are lots I could say so I’ll stop there!

St. James the Greater, patron of pilgrims and pilgrimages. We are all pilgrims of sorts because we’re all journeying towards God. I didn’t go looking for St. James—he came after me, sending countless boys then men named James my way to keep me heading in the right direction on the path towards the Lord. Every time I was in spiritual difficulty, another James showed up to assist/accompany/guide/nag me. It’s absolutely uncanny. I have three in my life right now.

St. Guy of Anderlecht, patron of sacristans. I am probably the last person on earth who should be a sacristan, yet I am one. I came to have this responsibility because a holy priest for whom I have the utmost respect and admiration (despite the fact that he is a difficult man and very demanding boss) somehow came to have confidence in me and thus granted me the appointment. In executing my duties, I could use all the help I can get.

St. Germaine Cousin, patron of the abandoned, the abused, the disabled, the ill, the impoverished, the orphaned and the unattractive, who led a short life (she died aged 22) full of suffering but rather than be defeated by it learned to be humble and patient. As I tend to be neither of those things in the face of adversity, she is my role model for increasing my piety and holiness. My suffering is petty compared to what she went through, and yet I whine, easily take offense, sulk, lash out and/or give up as if I were the most oppressed person who ever lived. I pray her intercession would help me to be a better person.

St. Margaret of Cortona and St. Augustine, proof that no matter how far off the correct path we may wander, it is never to late to do the right thing.

And how in the world could I forget St. Michael the Archangel! Protecting me daily from spiritual attack 👍

S. Maria Goretti
S. Philip Neri
S. Pius X
Holy English Martyrs
Ss. Peter and Paul
S. Joseph
S. Michael the Archangel

St. Joseph ~ My godfather’s name was Joseph. My own father, and my godfather were in construction, as am I. Joseph was a builder, so I/we can relate to him.

St. Peter ~ The chief of the Apostles. He was chosen by Jesus to lead, but let Him down. However, Peter eventually made good, and I love a good redemption story. It’s NEVER too late to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and do something great!

The future St. John XXIII ~ What’s not to love about him? A real human and saint. He had a vision of the Church’s future, and I love what he intended to do with the Second Vatican Council. I think that his papacy was amazing, and his writings are a must-read, in my opinion.

In honor of All Saints Day, please let us know who (can be more than one), favorite Saint and why. How has that saint touched your life, was it in their writing, or example or answered prayers.
thanks!
Saint Maximilian Kolbe, his act of self sacrifice constantly inspires me. I also love Saint Dymphna, because mental illness and incest fractured my family,as it did hers.

That’s a hard question. They’re all great. I would have to say myself Mary and Joseph and Saul.

St. Therese, because her “little way” is about all I can handle.

St. Faustina, because she shows us so much about God’s mercy, which I dearly need.

St. Teresa of Avila, who showed us the The Way of Perfection (My pen name, A.J. Avila, is in her honor).

St. Cecilia
St. Bernadette
St. Therese
St. Maria Goretti
St. Damien
St… John ( apostle)
Bl. Mother Tresa
St. Zoe Martin
St. Germane
St. Thomas Aquainas
St. Zita

Just to name a few 🙂

St Augustine and St Athanasius, great orators who took every opportunity to defend Christianity.

St Teresa of Avila, profoundly mystical.

Yes, they are all great in their own ways.

Mary, mother of Jesus and spouse of Joseph, is my favorite. I try to pray to Jesus with her everyday.

Wow this is a tough one

Blessed Virgin Mary
St Joseph
St Michael the Archangel
St Padre Pio
St Alphonsus Liguori

Many others 🙂

I have a lot of favourite saints, my first two ones being St Benedict Joseph Labre and St Francis of Sales. St Benedict Labre because of his trials in life (especially scrupulosity), his humility, trust and confidence in God. St Francis of Sales is like a spiritual teacher, his writings helped me very much in my spiritual life and encouraged me to persevere in my faith.
