St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Los Angeles, California (today’s his feast day!). Founded in 1920, the present church was built in 1960. Over the years, the parish has been administered by the Capuchin Fathers, and is currently staffed by the Franciscan Fathers from Santa Barbara.

That’s a nice church on the outside, but I feel that it needs some color on the inside. Especially in the apse. It looks so barren.

One pastor, two churches on two continents, with a Lithuanian connection. Rev. Monsignor Julius Maciejauskas founded St. Jacob Apostle Catholic Church in Sveksna, in his native Lithuania, in 1899:

Monsignor Maciejauskas died in Los Angeles in 1947, and was buried here. In 1993, his remains were returned to his homeland in Lithuania and reinterred at St. Jacob Apostle Churchyard in Sveksna, where he had served for 38 years.
