Because someone doesn’t feel the way you do about a particular subject, does not mean they are ignorant. It just means they think differently.I, for one, enjoy differing points of view. Often times we get “stuck” by only having one viewpoint. And this, I believe is the sign of true ignorance as defined by Webster: having lack of knowledge.

I haven’t yet read the book. I will someday. After all, it is merely a book. I am secure enough in my faith not to be shaken. At least then I will be able to give an intelligent viewpoint.

I remember back when “The Last Temptation Of Christ” raised a furor. I read it. It was a book. I didn’t agree with it. But at least I could talk about it intelligently and not make blanket statements about others being ignorant.

He is vehemently anti-Catholic and a liar. He is most likely future resident in Hell.
I can’t imagine why any catholic would like his books.
It’s just a book!!! Chill out!!

I don’t feel threatened by the book, either. Actually, I think the fact that so many people freak out about it just gives the book more publicity, and more resulting fans.

But like FightingFat already said, the original post, and this thread in general is just flame bait. Looks like people are buying it hook, line, and sinker, too.

Dan Brown.
Not even worth the energy to type a post.
Though I just did, huh?

My opinion. He’s definitely more dangerous than J.K. Rowling. At least she has talent and doesn’t try to make it like her stuff is true.

The thread asked for thoughts on Dan Brown. I gave mine that he is vehemently anti-Catholic and a proven liar. I did not specify any particular book. You assumed I said something about the Da Vinci Code. I didn’t.
His books in general condemn the Catholic Faith and no Catholic should take that lightly by saying Chill out, its only a book!!!

This past weekend, Father Groeschel was almost apoplectic about the book. He considered it to be a deliberate anti-Catholic and anti-Christ blasphemy. (Blasphemy was his word.)

He said that when the movie comes out, he will have a whole program devoted to exposing all the falsehoods in the book.

He strongly recommended people read the “DaVinci Hoax”.

Earlier, Father Benedict made a personal appearance at my parish and stated that the big scandal of the Catholic church was NOT the pedophile/homosexual issue, but rather the rapid decline in basic knowledge of Catholicism by Catholics and the rapid falloff in Mass attendance.

That books like this one could get so much success speaks to the issue of how Catholics need to improve apologetics and evangelism.

I think XPHAN works for Dan Brown, his publisher, or the studio that’s making the DaVinci Code movie.

Maybe XPHAN is Dan Brown!

Let the advance publicity begin!

Amazing my #$%@. FYI, he took up the work left unfinished by someone in the past decades. You think he came up w/ these trash from scratch all by himself !

You need to do some real reading from knowledgeable source…

catholic.com/library/cracking_da_vinci_code.asp

and The DaVinci Hoax

Only the ignorant calls him amazing. I call him devious!
A hoex you say? On what basis? The factual sections of his books are based on historical truths… Can i ask what your historical information is based on? You tell me what claims in his books are false… because i can assure you, there is a lot reliable evidence to suggest that it is not.

The problem is that many of the ideas that the book promotes are anything but fact, and they go directly to the heart of the Catholic faith. For example, the book promotes these ideas: Jesus is not God; he was only a man…

…And the fictional sections of his books are not.

One of the funniest “facts” in *Angels & Demons *is the big deal made about the “secret passetto” linking the Vatican to Castel S Angelo.

Secret!? **Secret!!?? **Do you suppose he refers to the big aquaduct-looking thingy that runs between them and can be seen from outer space (Let alone by anyone strolling along the Via del Corridori)? If you get a tour book of Rome that doesn’t tell you what that structure is, demand your money back from the shyster travel-agency/bookstore that sold it to you.

Here’s a hilarious “fact” from The Da Vinci Code
Langdon was always surprised how few Christians who gazed upon “the crucifix” realized their symbol’s violent history was reflected in its very name: “cross” and “crucifix” came from the Latin verb cruciare-to torture.
A. Any Christian who is unaware of the “scandal of the cross” hasn’t been paying much attention. And
B. I assure you, the Latin word for “one thing transversing another thing; cross”, *crux, crucis * etymologically precedes the verb *cruciare, *“to torture” (particularly by hanging someone in one of those *crux, crucis * positions).

You guys shouldn’t see Dan Brown’s work for the controversial topic of religion, see it for an intresting piece of literature and soon to be film.

i don’t think Dan Brown killed anybody’s faith. It’s just an intresting book. And i’m not ignorant. I think it is you that is ignorant because you’re so trapped and blanketed by the Church that you fear something that is diffrent.
You THINK?? That means you don’t know right??

Me ignorant and trapped and blanketed by the Church?? Are you implying that the Church is old fashioned and does not go w/ the time?? That you are so smart to live by rules of the sinful modern world?

I was once ignorant, the spot where you’re arrogantly occupying now, so I know exactly what I’m talking about. I do not fear of something so different and twisted because I was blessed to know what’s truth when I see it, unlike you. I fear only for the ignorant.

Why don’t you start by stating historical truths you found in his book that lead to fact maybe then I can tell you if it’s yea or nay. I’m sure Brown used historical facts BUT he interpreted erroneously. But I bet this is where his ‘fictional’ part comes in. For the ignorants, they wouldn’t know it. They think it makes perfect sense with facts and lies all mixed in. Why do you think his book sells???

The ignorant must’ve think they’ve been enlightened by this book. What a joke!

I must disagree – His work is not literature, it is a piece of pandering. (I’m sure it will translate spectacularly to the big screen)
  • He starts with a tittlating, tabu subject matter
  • He divides 100+ chapters among some 400 pages. Short instantaneous chapters that don’t require the reader to have any attention span worth mentioning.
  • And finally, he includes the “codes”. With the exception of the first, I solved all of them long before the characters in the book. “Ooooh, what a bright, clever boy I must be”
“literature” bah,
