Immaculate Mary. Well, I grew up in a Franciscan-run school called Our Lady of Lourdes, we did sing it a lot back then.

It is truly Right/Meet.

Hail Queen of Heaven, the Ocean Star
Hymne Ă  la Vierge

Immaculate Mary & Bring Flowers of the Rarest.

Every May when I went to elementary school, we had a May Crowning and these two songs were always sung. We sang the verse “O Mary! we crown thee with blossoms today” while some of the girls placed a crown of flowers on Mary’s head. Then we all went out into the courtyard of the church and had ice cream.

Salve Regina (Tonus Solemnis)
Ave Maris Stella, thanks to the Brigittine Monks 🙂

SANCTA Maria, regina caelorum, mater Domini nostri Iesu Christi, et mundi domina, quae nullum derelinquis, et nullum despicis: respice me, domina, clementer oculo pietatis, et impetra mihi apud tuum dilectum Filium cunctorum veniam peccatorum: ut qui nunc tuam sanctam et immaculatam conceptionem devoto affectu recolo, aeternae in futurum beatitudinis, bravium capiam, ipso, quem virgo peperisti, donante Domino nostro Iesu Christo: qui cum Patre et Sancto Spiritu vivit et regnat, in Trinitate perfecta, Deus, in saecula saeculorum. Amen. HOLY Mary, Queen of heaven, Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ, and mistress of the world, who foresakest no one, and despisest no one, look upon me, O Lady! with an eye of pity, and entreat for me of thy beloved Son the forgiveness of all my sins; that, as I now celebrate, with devout affection, thy holy and immaculate conception, so, hereafter, I may receive the prize of eternal blessedness, by the grace of Him whom thou, in virginity, didst bring forth, Jesus Christ our Lord: Who with the Father and the Holy Spirit, liveth and reigneth, in perfect Trinity, God, unto the ages of ages. Amen.

I love the four Marian antiphons already mentioned: It’s a joy to sing them in unison at the end of Vespers but my favourite hymns are the two below, (written by Anglicans but now in Catholic hymnals too)

Sing we of the Blessed Mother by George Timms

Sing we of the blessed Mother who received the angel’s word,
And obedient to the summons bore in love the infant Lord;
Sing we of the joys of Mary at whose breast that child was fed
Who is Son of God eternal and the everlasting Bread.

Sing we, too, of Mary’s sorrows, of the sword that pierced her through,
When beneath the cross of Jesus she his weight of suff’ring knew,
Looked upon her Son and Savior reigning from the awful tree,
Saw the price of our redemption paid to set the sinner free.

Sing again the joys of Mary when she saw the risen Lord,
And in prayer with Christ’s apostles, waited on his promised word:
from on high the blazing glory of the Spirit’s presence came,
heav’nly breath of God’s own being tokened in the wind and flame.

Sing the greatest joy of Mary, when on earth her work was done,
And the Lord of all creation brought her to his heav’nly home:
Virgin Mother, Mary blessed, raised on high and crowned with grace,
May your Son, the world’s redeemer, grant us all to see his face.

For Mary, Mother of Our Lord by John Pearcy

youtube.com/watch?v=-YDJuh-jYNs

For Mary, Mother of our Lord, God’s holy Name be praised,
Who first the Son of God adored As on her Child she gazed.

Brave, holy virgin, she believed, Though hard the task assigned,
And by the Holy Ghost conceived The Savior of mankind.

She gave her body as God’s shrine Her heart to piercing pain;
She knew the cost of love divine When Jesus Christ was slain.

Dear Mary, from your lowliness And home in Galilee
There comes a joy and holiness To every family.

Hail, Mary; you are full of grace, Above all women blest;
And blest your Son, Whom your embrace In birth and death confessed.
