YouTube becoming anti-Catholic haven

I’m not sure if any of you frequent the internet service YouTube, but if not perhaps this applies to you anyway. Even if you don’t use services like YouTube, many others around the country do and most likely your children frequent the site as well.

I’ve recently seen a dangerous trend in the topics of amature videos on the site. While it was originally intended as an entertainment venue where kids and adults alike could search for funny clips or news items, a large portion of the videos are now taking on religious subject matter.

Thousands of videos from atheists are appearing deriding Christians for their beliefs and engaging in what I would call atheist apologetics. Somewhat countering this is a large number of Evangelicals, though many are poorly trained in apologetics and include in their responses severely anti-Catholic rhetoric.

There are also many people making videos of a purely anti-Catholic nature. One example of many is an ex-priest named Richard Bennett who has dozens of hour long videos posted targeting poorly catechised Catholics under the screen name BereanBeacon. His goal is to convert them to a Sola Scriptura point of view.

All this would be fine if it were countered with good Catholic apologists who could explain in the comments the true teachings of the Church. While a few are attempting to do this, myself included, we are sorely outnumbered. It would be great if some of you from the forums could help us out by posting your own videos, or commenting and responding to comments on other videos to help clarify the true Catholic teachings. Many of you are far better than I at explaining the faith.

Thanks for any help you can provide. Any comments on what you have experienced with YouTube would be welcome as well.

Well, true. But there are also a lot of GOOD things on YouTube.

I have learned one thing about the internet. It takes the culture and magnifies it 1000 times. The culture right now is largely anti-Catholic and atheist. So it appears overwhelming on things like YouTube.

I mean, in the past few months tons of Traditional Masses have been posted for the viewing pleasure of those who have never seen one. Abuses from places like L.A. can be recorded and documented for all Catholics to get outraged at so more letters are written. Not to mention that cool 10 minute flick on Pius XII I watched today.

It is a culture problem, not a YouTube problem. When a good Fox News clip is put on there showing Al Gore to be a big, fat liar it gets run into the ground. But when someone makes a homemade video of images of President Bush having fake homosexual encounters and insulting him, it makes the top 10 viewed. One of the top subscribed guys on there’s whole gig is called “Ask a gay man.”

Just avoid what makes you angry. Out of the 100,000 people who read a comment defending the faith against a video, 99,000 will ignore it, 999 will post flames and slander, and you will help one. If you can keep it up to help that one, then God Bless you. But it drives me up the wall. So I just stay away from all those kind of videos.

Honestly, just the description on the search page made me sick. I can probably guess, but please, explain what exactly this is. I don’t think I have the stomach to watch.
 
There giving children a DVD if they’ll deny the Holy Spirit.
 
I don’t bother with “YouTool” (my pejorative name for it) any more. They can say what they want, but we’ve been answering heresies for 2,000 years and none of the a-C propaganda has changed in the 500 years since the reformation. Just kick back here and learn your faith and how to answer it and you’ll do fine.

Then get yourselves into your parishes as volunteers to help with RCIA, and other faith formation ministries (not to mention sharing your faith with friends, family, and acquaintances!) and while these people are spreading hate we’ll be used of God to win souls who will in turn do the same and that grace will continue to flow when all these a-Cs are forgotten by everyone but the devil.👍

Now I’m a babe in this faith. But since no one else is stepping up I’ll take the job.
 
The retail value of the DVD is $24.98 but it says the price for anyone who denies the Holy Spirit is “one soul”. That has to give you chills.
 
This is pretty easy to counter–have more Catholic Apologetics available in YouTube. That is the answer.
 
Then again, YouTube is where I can watch a video of a traditional latin mass with narration or watch episodes of Captain Catholic battling Evangelical Earl.
 
I wouldn’t call You Tube an anti-Catholic haven, I’d just call it a haven for lots of anti-Catholics. It’s just like the rest of the internet, you can take it or leave it, and as Catholics we’ll probably find most of the internet in the latter category.

The Blasphemy Challenge was pretty bad though, and it makes me wonder what the creator was thinking when he made it. You can’t help but feel the whole things Satan. Than again, human nature is more than capable of the job.

Just shows us how much more work the world needs…
 
Well, Saint Michael’s Media is working to change all this!! So far we have at least 23 episode clips of different shows in YouTube. We have had thousands of viewers of these clips, and good positive comments coming in all the time.

Search YouTube for “The One True Faith”, or “Michael Voris” to see the clips. 😃

If your blog accepts HTML code, you should be able to use the “embed” code which appears to the right side of the video when you watch it. Simply copy and paste that.

Alternatively, you can also simply stick a link in there to the page or pages that you are interested in.

Youtube is like a blackboard. It is blank, empty, until you write something onto it. And Anti-Catholics have learned quickly how to use this medium to attack the Faith. Catholics in particular should use it to counter their propaganda by uploading Christian-oriented and morally uplifting, inspirational videos there. In addition, you can always post comments on youtube concerning a particular video, especially offensive ones.
