It’s interesting that the article says conservative Catholic bishops are bothered by Dresser’s remarks, as though moderate bishops were just fine with it.

Frankly, all Catholics and indeed all Christians should be bothered by it.

… No human being can ever be God,
yap , it’s so easy to understand 🙂

why many people can’t understand this simple matter ? God is the Creator , Jesus (p) is His creation. Creator & creation can’t be equal .

"Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh: is there any thing too hard for me"? - Jeremiah 32:27

“Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. ****** But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven**.”* - Matthew 10:32-33

Christianity does not limit God’s power. He can be what He wishes and appear in any form if He so desires. Deny His power and you only condemn yourself.

Who was I being “uncharitable” to - him, or the Episcopalian Church? 😉

Either way, it still seems like the best fit, since Episcopalians can believe pretty much anything they want, from what I understand. (Bishop Spong is an Episcopalian in good standing, is he not?)
And so far Fr. Peter Dresser is a Catholic in good standing.

Certainly your Communion has a much more effective discipline than ours. But the teaching of both Communions cannot be derived from views occasionally professed by individuals and not adequately disciplined.

We recite the Nicene Creed every Sunday. There is no doubt or question about the fact that the Episcopal Church, and the Anglican Communion as a whole, believes in the divinity of Christ. We certainly have more people who deny basic Christian faith than you do. But no less than yours, our “unitarians” are clearly denying the teaching of the ecclesiastical body to which they belong.

Far Exalted is He Above Having a Son

One day, al-Baqilani - a Muslim Scholar and judge - entered the court of the Roman Emperor while he was among his monks and priests. al-Baqilani mockingly said to one of the priests:

“How are you? How are your family and children?”

The Roman Emperor exclaimed: “We were told that you are the most articulate among the Muslim scholars and the most knowledgable; don’t you know that our priests are deemed above having a wife and children?”

al-Baqilani answered: “How is it that you can’t deem Allah above having a wife and children, but you can them? As if they were more sacred than Allah!”

The Roman Emperor was moved by what he heard and from then on felt a great deal of respect for al-Baqilani.

Interesting bit of fiction. I cannot find a SINGLE non-Muslims source for this. In fact, none of the Muslim sources that I have looked at cite another source for it. If there were priests and monks there, someone would know about it.

Is this another Muslim lie meant to mislead people?

GIve the sources or lable it as fiction.

you are avoiding the main point/ question.

How is it that you can’t deem God above having a wife and children, but you can them? As if they were more sacred than God!"

I never said any of that trash, either.

That is a slanted story with NO HISTORICAL PROOF.

God did not need a wife to begot Jesus. God IS Jesus.

Again, I challenge you to show this story in proper historic context WITH citations. Then we can discuss.

Otherwise, it is a lie and you know it.

We don’t consider priests to be “more sacred than God.” Celibacy isn’t about being sacred; it’s about being available. Men are not able to be pulled in many different directions without becoming sorely stressed, so we pull our priests in only one direction; their priority is the people of the parish, and our married men also, in only one direction - their priority is their wives and children.

God the Trinity is always available to us; His family (which includes all of us, too) does not distract Him from giving us all of His love. 🙂

"But will God indeed dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain You, how much less this house which I have built!" - 1 Kings 8:27

“Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!**”* - Romans 11:33

"Am I a God who is near," declares the LORD,
"And not a God far off?
“Can a man hide himself in hiding places
So I do not see him?” declares the LORD
“Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?” declares the LORD.
- Jeremiah 23:23-24

God Is Without Limit

As for that tall tale of al-Baqilani’s; i’m with ralphinal’s doubt of its authenticity. Much of Islam’s self-glorifying stories are really, well, created only to boost the morale of those poor in spirit and knowledge. Not that it is necessarily a bad thing to do, but i wish Muslim apologists would do so in a more honest manner without actually trying to pit themselves against historical Christianity.

Firstly priests DO have children - each has hundreds of them. These are spiritual children, not physical, but very truly children nonetheless, which is why we call our priests Father!

As for being ‘more sacred than God’ - no. More like imitating Him. God did not have a wife in a crude human sense, nor was Jesus conceived in a crude human fashion, which is why Mary remained a virgin. Even your Quran acknowledges the virgin birth of Jesus, no?

Show me that other wives and mothers remain virgins, then your belief that God was a husband and father in the same fashion as any other and that priests are more sacred than Him would make sense. Not otherwise

That’s the problem with our priests and bishops today. I’m not a big traditionalist, but I have to agree with some of them on one thing. The Church is being attacked from within. Didn’t Our Lady of Akita prophesy that things like this would happen?

Hopefully, Pope Benedict XVI can fix the problems with our priests and bishops. There needs to be a crackdown on Modernist heretics. How are people like this even getting into the priesthood?
