In his address, given in French and English, the Holy Father said, “‘The Mystery of Faith’: this we proclaim at every Mass. I would like everyone to make a commitment to study this great mystery, especially by revisiting and exploring, individually and in groups, the Council’s text on the liturgy, ‘Sacrosanctum Concilium,’ so as to bear witness courageously to the mystery.”
The Pontiff affirmed that such study would help each person “arrive at a better grasp of the meaning of every aspect of the Eucharist, understanding its depth and living it with greater intensity.”
"Every sentence, every gesture has its own meaning and conceals a mystery," Benedict XVI continued. "I sincerely hope that this Congress will serve as an appeal to all the faithful to make a similar commitment to a renewal of Eucharistic catechesis, so that they themselves will gain a genuine Eucharistic awareness and will in turn teach children and young people to recognize the central mystery of faith and build their lives around it.

Would that every bishop, priest and music publishing house would read what the document actually said as opposed to just folloiwng the alleged spirit.

I would add that along with reading the Constitution, we should also read all three of Pope Benedict’s books on the liturgy. 👍

Is there anyone here who could post a site where I could read this constitution?
thanks and peace be with you all 🙂

Here you go. The Vatican web site has it in many different languages.

To clarify, this is not a “new” document; this is the Vatican II “Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy” from 1963 that described the direction of the liturgical reform.

If you have been following the liturgical goings-on the past year or so – the liberalization of the 1962 Missal, the “Benedictine” altar arrangement (of crucifix and candles on the altar), the use of Latin and chant (especially at Papal Masses), and the recent distribution of Communion on the tongue to kneeling communicants at a few Papal Masses – then this call from Pope Benedict will come as no surprise. He is calling us, in my estimation, to look at what the Council said about the need for liturgical reform: to see what they consigned to paper, voted on, and approved. To see the context of the liturgical reform, and allow that to shape our perception of the liturgical reform that took place. To see what Vatican II’s liturgical document said (and didn’t say) about the Eucharist.

If every priest & deacon, and every lay person with a role in ministry to liturgy, were to read this document there would be a revolution because the whole “Spirit of V2” think would evaporate overnight.

I would like to think so, but in reality, the reaction might be more like this.
