I have read somewhere that the position of the Catholic Church would be the same as its stance on killing in general. We are not to kill anyone unless in legitimate defense CCC 2263. This would be how we are to treat zombies also, since we do not know for sure if their soul is still contained within the body. So unless in direct threat to ourselves or someone else, we are not to arbitrarily kill them. Also, we cannot kill anyone even if they are bit, another caveat is they cannot kill themselves either, since suicide is also a sin.
total bs, history has already proven that zombies do not have souls, ipsofacto they are free to kill at leasure.

With a hat tip to St.Thomas Aquinas and MercatorNet, and with tongue placed firmly in cheek:

Article 1. Whether it is morally permissible to kill those who become zombies?

It would seem …]

Thank you for this Theophorus! 😃 When I woke up this morning and I can assure you I didn’t think I would have the opportunity to read a Thomistic response on the moral implications of the ZA. But everyday truly is a gift!

God Bless!

One that does not though represent the thought of Thomas… …

He would understand that they are not living persons and answer accordingly.

I would want somebody to kill ME if I had the choice.
Would you want the same if you had terminal cancer? Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS)? Some other debilitating illness that would make your life burdensome, and likely create a burden for those around you? It seems like a tough call, but the Church is absolutely clear on this - it is deemed euthanasia, and it is grave matter.

I answer that, zombies are not be dead, but simply brain damaged
and i reply with , i will keep that in mind to respect your views on the matter when a zombie is coming down on you wanting to eat you alive or snack on your brain and remember that the zombie needs to be respected not killed.
I would want somebody to kill ME if I had the choice.
That is the general rule of thumb.
No worries will not happen.
Things that were said to be impossible, the world was thought to be flat, and that the sun revolved around the earth, along with plenty of other things, we would only be so lucky for the ZA to happen.
And it is fiction anyhow…
not true we have plenty of zombies that vote every time the presidential election comes around and plenty of zombies are currently in certain portions of our government here in the USA.
Seriously if I get bitten I do not want to wait around to become a zombie
well it seems that depending what generation of zombie does bite you , you are either instantly infected and you’re done for, or you have seconds to chop off the bitten limb ( if you are lucky to be bitten on a limb ) and then stop the bleeding and now you either limb around or only have one arm. an live.
Love Zombies <3
(and of course for all this is fiction…in case some readers are wondering at the “serious” discussion underway here)
This is a way more interesting , fun, and mine as well be a serious topic, considering; the horrible discussions discussing on why incest is bad, or if someone looked at a naked person on tv for 3 seconds if that constitutes a sin, or if cheating at a video game is a sin, or getting 10 people telling one poster who is considering the priesthood to go find a spiritual and or vocations director instead of informing the poster of the stickies on the forum and or actually trying to answer anything relevant in the posters question on the matter.
One cannot kill a person before such takes place.
A general problem for the zombie world, you get bit, you are going to turn , game over, but you are still human, so ya can’t take the easy way out as that would be suicide so ya gota suck it up till the very last breath and hope who ever is around you doesn’t wuss out and ends up bitten by you after you turn.
This is assuming Zombies are dead human beings.
So a " human " who smells of death, has rotting flesh, missing limbs, is eating human flesh or brains, can not speak but only moans, doesn’t die when you shoot it in the chest multiple times, has a dissconntected jaw or other disconnected limbs barely hanging on by ligaments, and does not respond to anything one says, has a chance of actually not being dead and is still considered human. ? * shrugs * alrighty then, so then if a being simply looks human, it is.

and for any serious zombie fan, one must start from the voodoo zombie and progress to George A. Remero movies, and or book up on the comic book The Walking Dead or better yet BONE up on the tv series coming back this fall to thus learn all the ins’ and outs’ the does’ and donts’ of how to survive the Z.A. .

Now the good stuff about zombies,

They - dont have to worry about what they are going to wear on a day to day basis.
" " - are an environmentalists friend as they don’t drive or consume hardly any natural resources.
  • do not have any motives but to eat brains, wild animals, or at the minimum human flesh.
  • will never try an rob you of any valuables.
  • are excellent for target practice.
  • would be excellent soliders as all you have to do is infest an enemy area with them an sit back an watch.
  • do not require health care so in turn that would shoot down obama care.
  • have the perfect look for halloween.
  • have no political motives.
  • do not get offended nor use political correctness.
( add more if ya want )

and do not forget to watch or rent

ZombieLand for more tips and tricks to survive the Z.A

( fyi if you are preparing for the Z.A and or reading actual books on the matter, you are sniffing too much glue. )

A general problem for the zombie world, you get bit, you are going to turn , game over
Nope 2%-7% do not turn but recover. 😉

But even if 100% turned --one would not kill the human person who will later be replaced by a Zombie.

One must wait til the Zombie arrives.

For one…it tells ya not to sweat it anyway in ephesians…

For two, it sounds like you’re going to be in your own lil heaven on earth due to faith anyway-like the old folks that go to a happy heaven lalaland (aren’t they cute?).

for three…if ya ask God, you’re supposed to get the right answer at the time?

But hey, more fun mixin zombie books with harry potter, and Bible? say what??? LOL

Just be prepped with the full armor (also ephesians)…How can ya go wrong?

I wouldn’t give that burden to someone else.

Wait until the person turns. And when they finally die and come back as a zombie, it would be permissible to kill them in self defence.

Complete forgery. Not the thought of Thomas on the subject.
Course it is, its in the quarta pars😃
"Theophorus:
With a hat tip to St.Thomas Aquinas and MercatorNet, and with tongue placed firmly in cheek:
In all seriousness, of course its not the work of St. Thomas, it is a light hearted look at the question of a Zombie apocalypse, using information from the website MercatorNet.

Although whether ‘Zombification’ results from substantial change or simply a defect in the matter of the brain caused by viral infection, thus impeding the proper activity of the form(as rational soul) is surely a valid point, No?

I am sure St. Thomas would have interesting things to say on the morality of dispatching a Zombie, and whether becoming a Zombie is an accidental or substantial change and what the substantial form of a Zombie actually is if it is no longer a Rational Soul?

Would it be a natural substantial form on the sensitive level, or something resulting from demonic activity?

Either way I’m sorry if it seemed like I was really presenting thomistic doctrine, and I certainly wasn’t mocking him.

As Bookcat pointed out this is only a light hearted Pseudo-Thomas at best, please don’t take it as a proper Thomistic account. It takes the structure and some of the gramatical constructs from the Summa Theologiae, but the arguments are from MercatorNet, and aren’t even frammed in a Thomistic way.(Although thinking about it more now it would be possible to do so.)

Yes 😉 but I would again note that such would not be representative of Thomas’s answer to such a question… He would take into account the reality that they are not persons any longer…hence this is a *forgery *…likely put forth by some pro-zombie writer.

A “zombie-hugger”.

Misguidedly seeking to preserve and protect “zombie-kind”…

I wouldn’t give that burden to someone else.
Is that your choice to make? Does God, perhaps, want to take this illness and use it for good, both for yourself and those who must help you with your burden? We all must bear our own crosses, but we also must be our brother’s keeper and bear the cross when they are unable. Just ask Simon of Cyrene about that…

at first I saw this as “Zombie Burger…”

what choice?

what choice?
Giving that burden to someone else. If you were an invalid, and required the care of others, how would you make it your choice to not give them that burden? And if you were able to (such as through suicide), would you still make that choice if it was against God’s will?

I meant, to off me; i.e., at home euthanasia.
And I mentioned nothing of suicide.

I probably WOULD, but I know it is not allowed.

Well, I think the question of morality hinges upon whether or not you are riding a unicorn when you do it.
Already settled…

Dubium

First question: Whether the morality of the dispatching of a zombie is dependent upon the mode of transport one is utilizing at the moment?

Second question: Whether one can dispatch a zombie morally so long as the zombie is a zombie and not still a living person?

RESPONSES

To the first question: Negative.

To the second question: Affirmative.
