I have no doctrinal insight to add that hasn’t already been brought up, but I must say -

I am very much looking forward to banding with you folks to survive the zombie invasion!

I can picture it now - magnum in one hand, rosary in the other.

LOL! What’s extra funny is that me and some of my girlfriends hit the firing range once a month and it’s a really good time, and then we head off to bible study the next night.
It’s not my fault that shooting things is so much fun. Whee!

Nice!!!

I personally want to get a handgun and get a lisence to carry. Especially when we have kids. Not that I expect to carry a handgun everywhere, but I am like the boy scouts. I believe in being prepared.

Its quite hard to get a gun down here, especially if you don’t live on a farm. I also don’t think writing down in the 'why do you want a firearm" question, “to be prepared for the zombie invasion” would go down well with the cops.

I have a hammer, a cricket bat and have quick access to machetes.

But I do think to myself “what would I do in x situation if the zombies attacked?”

I’ve decided I would most likely not want to be on a plane, a boat or in a movie theatre.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Stupid government. No wonder they will fall when the invasion happens.

Plane would suck, boat couldn’t be as bad if you can get to the sides of it quick enough. Movie theatre wouldn’t be so bad for me as I usually sit in the back. My fear is a school, where I am most likely to be. First sign of violence (early zombie attack could be seen as rioting or violent crime) and the schools are required to go on lockdown. That means the lights are turned off, students are asked to huddle in a corner and paper is used to cover windows with all doors closed and locked. This means if someone in the classroom is infected, it could mean certain death for everyone in the room. On the plus side, it means the infected can’t get into the room. Either way, if it happens while I am teaching I know it’s the end of the line for me. I know in my heart of hearts I couldn’t harm a child. Rabid zombie or no. I’d hesitate, and the hesitation would be my demise.

Resident Evil Apocalypse has this sort of thing in it! Hehe.

Not to mention, there’s bound to be a screamer in your class, and that’ll attract the zombies, and some of the smarter ones or grabbier ones might smash the window.

A high rise might also cause some trouble, no telling what’s on waiting when the elevator doors open or what condition the stair well is in.

There’s a lot to consider. Of course, I guess its like a nuclear war, you can do all the prep you want, but if you’re sitting at ground zero eating your sandwiches when the thing is air burst, you got no chance.

Exactly. Location, location, location.

I know there will be a screamer, but if I am any kind of decent teacher I’ll know how to get them facing away from points of entry and keep them quiet. If they do start to come in, the best I can really do is unlock the from door, and get them out of the classroom and out of the building as fast as possible. Buildings with doors are bad places to be. And that’d be my other problem, I wouldn’t leave the kids to fend for themselves. I’d be trying to get everyone out and safe.

Probably gunna introduce a new subject matter here, but this is why I think teachers should be trained to carry. If some deranged lunatic comes into the school and rips his way into my classroom I should be able to take him down. If it’s zombies and I have a gun another win. But most importantly, I guarantee you that a student intent on shooting his classmates certainly wouldn’t get through 10-20 of them before the cops get there if the staff is packing heat. My hubby works for the schools and his department is almost unanimous that there should be people trained to carry on school grounds.

Maybe you guys should do ninja training. All those scissors and craft knives and pencils. A good ninja could put a pair of scissors between the lunatic’s eyes and no one would know it was the ninja.

Ninja? What ninja?

What exactly is a ninja supposed to do against zombie hords?

and what if a Nemisis Zombie finds your school?

I just noticed where you’re from. You live on a big island! You’re trapped!!! 😃

I’m proficient in throwing knives, and sharp objects in general (I can make a sharpened No. 2 pencil stick to a stucco wall from 10 feet). I’ve always preferred knives to guns in survivial scenarios. There’s no danger of running out of bullets. It is easier to handle in a close-up fight. Throwing a knife is a much quicker projectile release method than a gun. It is more quiet (won’t attract more zombies). And you can use a knife to cook and groom yourself.👍 Did you know that at a distance of 30 feet, a knife is more effective than a gun in taking down an attacker?. This is especially relevant for Class A and D zombies.

This is a great point and why I personally would prefer melee weapons over projectile.

The problem with a throwing knife is this: What happens when you have 20 hungry zombies coming your way and only one knife?

That’s a good point about the 20 zombies, and that’s my problem with relying soly upon meely weponds. I have another problem with it as well, I’m not personally highly trained with them. I’m just not a ninja, or any other such thing. I’m just a common fool off the streets, in fact I’ve only ever shot a gun once in my life at that.

So while I guess I would need to practice up with something in order to be somewhat prepared for the impending zombie doom (we all know it’s coming soon right? lol) I’d have to say I’d probably be better off with a gun. History is pretty definitive on this point, the untrained fair far better with guns than meely weponds.

That is why the #1 rule to surviving a zombie attack is cardio. Personally I think you are better off training for a flight over fight zombie survival technique. Focus on running and gymnastics like in parkour. Clearing large obstacles and quickly scaling buildings will be the most important survival skill you can have in a zombie outbreak in an urban environment. In a rural environment being able to put lots of distance between yourself and ground zero would be essential. You are almost always better off not engaging the zombie menace; the noise always attracts more of the undead and in the end you’re almost always overcome. If you have to take out a zombie to make an escape it should be done silently and at a distance. I would take a crossbow or a spear over a knife any day for that purpose.

Good point!!

I guess that means I should get back to the gym then, eh? hehe:o

Just remember you don’t have to be faster than the zombies, just faster than the other guy.

I am actually more worried about how the military will react to a zombie outbreak than the zombies themselves. There will be a quarantine and military lock down so you can’t escape, and if things aren’t controlled very quickly then you have to worry about the entire area simply being firebombed to prevent the z-virus from spreading. Good thing is all of the hurricane preparation I’ve done can also come in pretty handy in a zombie outbreak. I have hurricane panels, plenty of guns and ammo, a rainwater collection and filtration system, and enough food to last 3 months. I am actually pretty well prepared for the zombies but I can’t prepare for a possible bombing campaign. All I can do is protect myself and pray that everything is controlled very quickly.

This makes me think…during a zombie infestation, not only do we have to worry about zombies, but also, non-infected looters/hooligans who want to self-appropriate your goods! Is it morally ok to defend your stuff from them?

1 or 2 Class A zombies - knife (or bolo/machete).

3 to 5 Class B or C zombies - knife (or bolo/machete)

Anything over that - cardio.

You now what guys, I think I am going to start a new thread about the general morality in a zombie outbreak. We’ve got some good discussion going on. I’ll post a link to it.

Of course, the same can be said of what if you have 20 zombies and 10 bullets?

Use nine on them, don’t think I have to mention what to do with the last one.

As for what I’d do, I’d get down on hands and knees and plough through, hoping their zombie impairments would hinder their spinal mobility.
