Fellow Catholics,
Notice the co-incidental news of the rigged poll that Catholics favor same-sex marriage, which turns out to have been funded by Arcus, a gay rights activist foundation, and this piece of news provided by the OP, that the same organization has funded New Ways Ministry, a dissident “Catholic” group among others it likewise funded.
New Ways Ministry has been passing itself as Catholic even if the Catholic Church has severed ties with it back in 1984, per
this Catholic News Agency article.
According to the
New Ways Ministry site, it is a “Catholic” [quotes mine]
national ministry of justice and education for lesbian/gay Catholics and the wider church community.
NWM director Francis DeBernardo authored published a booklet in February 2011, titled “Marriage Equality: a positive Catholic approach,” which the bishops are disavowing as Catholic. The booklet, as reviewed by the bishops, has misrepresentations of the position of the Church on same-sex marriage, such as that “Catholic tradition” allows for laity and theologians within the Church – some of whom support allowing marriage for same-sex couples – to have equal say and authority on the issue.
Cardinal Wuerl, who heads the Committee on Doctrine for the U.S bishops’ conference, stated that NWM is not “in conformity” with Catholic teaching and that the group should refrain from even identifying itself as Catholic. It should be noted that NWM has been considered not in conformity since1984 when its founders Sr. Jeannine Gramick, SSND, and Fr. Robert Nugent – were barred from continuing their activities in the Archdiocese of Washington, for their errors and ambiguities in the ministry’s adherence to Church teaching on the morality of homosexual acts.
NWM received large sums from, yes, from the same gay rights activist foundation, Arcus Foundation, for the purpose of promoting same-sex “marriage” specifically among Catholics, Lutherans, Episcopalians, and Jews.
The Arcus Foundation was begun by
Jon Stryker, an openly gay billionaire stockholder and a leading supporter of homosexualist initiatives. A 2006 Salon article points to the influence of gay software millionaire and activist
Tom Gill on Stryker.
Of interest, these two named influential homosexualists were known as part of a special group of five powerful homosexuals, known as The Gay Mafia That’s Redefining Liberal Politics in the U.S., according to
this Time Magazine article in October 2008. On what did they have their eyes on at that time? To fund the campaigns of candidates on only one issue, that they are and projected to be pro-gay cause, most of all pro-gay ‘marriage.’
The article named the gay Super Friends as: David Bohnett of Beverly Hills, Calif., who in 1999 sold the company he had co-founded, Geo-Cities, to Yahoo! in a deal worth $5 billion on the day it was announced;
Timothy Gill of Denver, another tech multimillionaire; James Hormel of San Francisco, grandson of George, who founded the famous meat company;
Jon Stryker of Kalamazoo, Mich., the billionaire grandson of the founder of medical-technology giant Stryker Corp.; and Henry van Ameringen, whose father Arnold Louis van Ameringen started a Manhattan-based import company that later became the mammoth International Flavors & Fragrances.
As also mentioned in the article, in 2007, Stryker’s Arcus Foundation gave away $11.8 million as part of its Gay and Lesbian Program. The money reached both big-name groups like the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (which got half a million dollars) and little organizations like the Actors Theatre Co. of Grand Rapids, Mich., which got $25,000 to produce a play called Seven Passages: The Story of Gay Christians.
