So did John jr when he took his wife and sister in law. Then they tried the blame the flight instructor for jr not talking his advice of waiting until morning to fly out to the island. Approach to ACK and MVY are not fun at night with two rated ATPs let alone an ink is still wet private pilot.

John Jr. wasn’t a politician, but a private citizen who made a reckless mistake and paid for it with his life.
And his wife and relative were not involved with any scandalous behavior with him, were adults, and were not dragged forcibly onto the plane with an inexperienced pilot, they chose to go.
Your point is?

The Kennedy family tried to influence the ntsb to blame the flight instructor.

Source please?

Grieving families do all sorts of things and blame all sorts of people.

The final report blamed “pilot error” so no flight instructors were ultimately blamed.

i spoke with a French woman who was astonished at the attitude of Americans to Clinton’s scandal. She exuded that European air of above-such-matters sophistication that so many Americans, esp in the upper classes or levels of education, try so hard to emulate. She definitely thought the presence of both Mitterand’s wife and mistress at thenfuneral showed a higher level of civilization than we Americans have here.

I’m amazed there have been any sex-related scandals in Europe at all, but am glad to see that their civilization doesn’t extend to everything.

Wow! Not even the same circumstances that’s a really cheap shot, tsk tsk!

I don’t think the two incidents were comparable. Laura Bush was 17, driving in the dark, didn’t see a stop sign, hit another car and the driver was killed. She wasn’t charged with any criminal offence. She’s spoken a lot about her remorse about the incident and how she didn’t handle the aftermath well at all.

We all know that this is nothing like the Chappaquiddick tragedy. Kennedy was a mature married man who took off in a car with a woman who wasn’t his wife, crashed and decided to tell no-one that the poor girl was in a vehicle which was submerged in water. And when she was eventually found, the fire chief who found her concluded that she hadn’t drowned but had been alive for a significant time in an air-pocket and could have been saved.

The Church I went to as a little girl (in the US) had a stain glass window of JFK.
Now, to be fair, it wasn’t in any of the public worship areas, and it was paid for and donated by a parishioner and not out of church funds, but…

I don’t see why the European attitude is superior.
Where has it gotten them?
What was the last truly great thing to come out of Europe?
It used to be the center of theology and philosophy and science and literature and music and art etc.
Not anymore.
It’s lost its vigor.
But hey at least they have enlightened views on sexuality, right?

You might be right.
But I’ve had RL conversations with people along the lines of “the Netherlands has legalized pot, why can’t we?” “The U.K. has topkess ladies on TV, so it can’t be that bad”, and so forth…

My Irish born father did not have kind words about Teddy but thought JFK and RFK were decent. That being said, as someone here noted, Teddy has already been judged by the final judge and we don’t know his punishment or reward.

Another layer of baloney. I was around for the Chappaquiddick incident. Research clearly shows that Ted Kennedy was not to blame. Bringing up the other Kennedys is not relevant here.

Hate the sin love the sinner.

Well, not in this case eh ?

Jim

It’s probably a mudslinging movie.

Ted Kennedy is dead and not here to defend himself, so he’s fair game.

It was a tragic accident, and yes, Ted got off more easily than others would have.

But then, so did Laura Bush when she killed a person while driving.

Will we see a movie about her ?

Jim
Did Laura flee the scene of the accident?

I am sure the Chappaquiddick incident is still relevant to the Kopechne family.

Who knows? Maybe they have forgiven, unlike some others who were not directly affected and still cling to it.

I think her parents have passed on.
I don’t know if she had brothers or sisters or cousins. It probably remains an unsolved mystery for them.
