Mystery? Like who done it? I thought it was known, now to be laid bare by this new movie.

First, they said she drowned, then the story changed to she had found an air
pocket and might have been saved.
No one will really know what happened that night except for Ted. I am sure Kopechne’s parents died with many unanswered questions.

Ted Kennedy hasn’t even been dead ten years. He died in late 2009 - hardly “a very long time”.

I followed the JFK Jr tragedy very closely and I do t recall reading anything about the family trying to influence the NTSB.

It doesn’t matter. He’s no longer around to defend himself.

The flight instructor wasn’t involved in Kennedy’s decision to pilot his privately owned plane in unsuitable weather without proper training and while his foot was in a boot or cast.

The flight instructor had nothing to do with it.

Kennedy overestimated his abilities and killed three people. I’m sure that was far from his intention - but he should’ve known better. He wasn’t instrument trained, and shouldn’t have flown that night under those conditions.

That’s completely true. But in the grand scheme of things he’s barely gone - I think we actually agree here. I was a bit shocked when I saw the first ads for the movie, to be honest. No matter what we thought of him, he was the patriarch of that family for a long time. It must be odd for them.

Hollywood is strange. It does its homework. They saw a chance to make a buck based on that homework. I think if you walked up to any adult below a certain age, Chappaquiddick would sound like a meaningless word.

Rose Kennedy was the most important and influential member of the family. Joe Kennedy did his share too. Too bad Joe Jr. was lost on a secret mission during World War II when the explosive filled bomber he was supposed to jump out of, exploded prematurely.

I heard the studio had been pressured not to release the movie.

So there are people who prefer attention not be brought to the Chappaquiddick
incident.

Joe Jr. was very handsome. We will never know what role he might have had in American history had he not been killed.

It must have been so hard for Rose to lose 3 sons to tragic deaths. Wasn’t a daughter also killed in a plane accident?
Then Ted had this scandal.
One wonders if the family really did have a curse.

For me, several years is “a very long time”. I’ve had a LOT of change in my life since 2009. Five of my close family including my mother and husband have died, not to mention several friends. I broke off with my two best friends, changed my lifestyle radically, quit doing major mortal sins, came back to the Church, changed jobs, moved to a different state, lived in yet another state for a while, bought another house, and adopted a dozen cats.

If I went back another 9 years to 2000, I could make a list of similar huge lifestyle changes including changing my entire career and doing other stuff that I don’t want to talk about on here.

I don’t know how your lives go but nine years to me is a heckuva long time. 2009 is as far away as the next galaxy for me. YMMV.

Not gossip.

MAJOR public figure who among other things forced ME out of preferred medical plan and who attempted direct negotiations with Russia to sabotage President Reagan.

There is a slight difference. Ted Kennedy was a married man, at a gathering of his campaign mates, drinking with a group of young women who had also worked in the campaign. His drinking caused a tragic accident and then he left the scene to let a young woman die.

Laura Bush’s was also a tragic accident.

Kathleen was killed in a plane crash (bad weather).

Rosemary Kennedy also had very unhappy story.

I am sure the Chappaquiddick incident is still relevant to the Kopechne family.
Paradoxically, it may be easier for the Kopechne family to forgive and let it go, because spiritually and emotionally they have everything to gain by doing so.

The Kennedy family’s detractors, on the other hand, do not see their need to forgive and let go. As they see it, they have everything to gain by forever reciting the litany of the faults and misdeeds of the Kennedys.

I was teasing, there was a long thread a while back about the use of the word “females” in that way.😁

My own grands and even my husband used “Woman” quite a bit in the context you mention. Nobody was ever bothered. When you’re secure in yourself and can give back as good as you get, you don’t need to worry about dumb stuff.
