Got it - thanks for the clarification. My in-law’s church is a member of the Anglican Communion Network, and the ACN is a member of this new Anglican Church in North America.

It’s funny, people see the controversy with the Episcopal Church over liberal theology to be a bad thing for the whole communion. I disagree, this has united traditionalist anglicans high and low church more than any other event!

I very much agree with this sentiment. The ‘liberals’ have cast their lot with the increasingly irrelevant TEC (like one of our cousins, a female TEC seminarian who accepts just about everything but traditional Christianity), while the ‘conservatives’ have increased their clout by joining together in support of a more authentic Christianity.

It’s hard to imagine, however, that the ‘low-church’ and ‘high-church’ conservatives can stay together once their new body has established itself as a legitimate province of the Anglican Communion. I hope and pray that they can.

Ha! Quite true, my friend!

My in-law’s church de-emphasizes liturgy and sacraments in favor of “accepting Christ as personal Lord and Savior” and more exuberant styles of worship, such that they’re in-between popular American megachurch evangelicals and traditional, high-church conservative Anglicans.

Anglicans are endlessly fascinating.

AFAIK, the United Church of Canada – formed out of a merger of Congregationalists, Methodists, and some Presbyterians (see below) – are very liberal with regard to the issues presented above.

There is also the Presbyterian Church In Canada, which is the remnant (for lack of a better word) of the Presbyterian Church which did not join the UCC. I do not know what their views are, but I think they are more conservative.

When I was with the army, instructing at the signals school in Kingston, our course chaplain was a Presbyterian minister. We had the odd discussion of theology, but we never touched on these topics. But he didn’t strike me as being in the same vein as the UCC ministers I’ve met.

Anyone here know of the views of the Presbyterian Church in Canada?
