Excellent commentary on this celebration of masturbation and lesbianism…

The article was written in 2000, but is every bit as relevant today.

V-Day at St. Mary’s College
You bet it is absolutely relevant and one can’t help but pity the gulliblity of mankind and wonder how we have become so confused! But then the darkness has always tried to mask immoral behavior as just another of life’s acceptable perspectives - after all, we don’t want to come right out and mention sin.

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

~Isaiah 5:20~

I can’t help but wonder if Hunger Games will or has encouraged such things. I have heard of many parents who took their children to the movie and then proceeded to walk out. The news is full of stories of children killing or attempting to kill other children.
I didn’t worry about it. If that was a problem with should remove a lot of classics like Lord of the Flies from reading lists for young people.

What might not seem sexual to you …
Stop right there. I did not say it wasn’t sexual. The words pornography, arousing, and sexual are not synonyms and can’t be used interchangeably here. By doing so you are putting words in my mouth. I don’t know if you are doing it deliberately or unintentionally, but stop it.
…can certainly be different to those who are immature and going through a lot of hormone changes, especially young men who you might just only have to hear the word sex. Also, just hearing the women talk about their sexual experiences can cause images in peoples minds. Images that may be very difficult to get out. There are many, many men in our culture who struggle with pornography and I am sure they would disagree with you when you say after hearing the stories they would get over it. More than likely it would only increase their desire for pornography.
Since there isn’t anything pornographic about the Vagina Monologues, I don’t see how it could get them hooked on that. Unless they have a fetish for feminists yelling at them.
According to the Center for Parent and Youth Understanding we live in a porn culture and I think their definition is much better than Wikipedia’s.

While dictionaries might define pornography as pictorial or literary renderings of obscene material related to the sex act, it is much broader than that. Pornography is anything the heart uses to find sexual expression outside of God’s intended design for relational intimacy. It is anything that tempts and corrupts the human heart into desiring sensual pleasure in sinful ways.

Just as you said to someone else that they could not read someone’s mind, neither can you, so you also can’t be sure of what might have been another agenda in writing this play. Sex sells and is a money maker. It would not be as much of a money maker if someone just stood up and talked about women’s issues or sex trafficking without mentioning the word vagina or telling sensual stories. This play is definitely outside of God’s intended design for relational intimacy. It might be making money to raise awareness for sex trafficking but there are much better ways.
I agree sex sells and I think that’s with the playwright used the word. But it obviously has driven others away. It isn’t for everyone. But it has raised awareness in ways in places that a more dainty word would have been ignored.
I have also come to the conclusion I don’t have to convince you what it is because I realize that there are people who whether they realize what they are doing or not will defend this type of culture no matter what anyone says.

As someone else said the means does not justify the end.

Also, I won’t provide any more links to any more Catholics who would speak on the dignity of women or Catholics who fight against human sex trafficking because all you have to do is google “Catholics fight human sex trafficking” or “Catholics speak on the Dignity of women” and the links and websites are many. None of which who bring women down to just sexual body parts but elevate her to the position God intended. Catholics out there working to fight the sex culture and elevate human dignity are endless and doing great jobs.
No, you don’t have to convince me. You couldn’t. If you are going to misquote me repeatedly you make it difficult for me to do anything but correct that.

I have googled for resources on those topics and I find the same things the USCCB, Catholic Relief Services, same old. Finding anything on sexual assault is impossible for obvious reasons, which is unfortunate. It’s probably going to be awhile before Catholics will be listened to on that topic.

I am not trying to misquote you and you are correct I should have used the word pornographic in that sentence instead of sexual. Sometimes when people post things on such forums words can get misunderstood. I don’t think people are always doing it intentional. I know I don’t and I know many times I make mistakes when typing. Sometimes my thoughts get ahead of my typing.

I think at this point we will just have to agree to disagree. I think the definition I gave from CPYU and the very informative article gnsdad linked speak better than anything more I can say. Again, not trying to misquote you and sorry if there are other places I did.

God bless. 🙂

If Catholic campuses are hosting such things, I shudder about other campuses. V-Monologues (genital) seems to be a satanic work focusing on a section women with past unfortunate or degrading experiences. It is to make them constantly repeat, think, meditate, dwell and personify their genital to such a great extent, but to the detriment of regressing their own personality. Thus, they should feel they are important, useful and wanted only because of their V and even develop confidence, pride and aggressive courage based on that. This is to give free rein to immorality and foul talk, to multiply lesbianism and perversion among other similar weak or wounded women and quicken destruction of family and society.

Such women will not find it hard to mock at God, ridicule/hate their parents and courage to be even martyrs for this perverted against all high authority or institutions. We can be sure those who produce and direct such plays and activities may already be demonized and under bondage and have even direct spiritual support from demons for their work (esp. Incubus and Succubus). Therefore, we can see them aggressively progressing and nobody can or wants to stop them legally or otherwise.

For we are not contending against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (Eph. 6:12)

Lord of the Flies is a story of young students and how civilization turns back into tribalism, something we all should read.

Animal Farm is about totalitarianism.

I have not read Hunger Games but have heard conflicting reports on its value.

Hunger Games is not about young people descending into tribalism on their own. It is a story of a totalitarian regime which as punishment for a past attempt at rebellion, drafts two young persons from each of its districts once each year, to go to the capital for a competition in which only one can survive.

Hunger Games was a cautionary tale about totalitarianism, as Lord of the Flies was about our base nature. To put the VM in the same category, the lesson would have to be about the danger of women focusing too much on their sexuality, not a glorification of it.

Hunger Games is also about the hedonism of the upper classes and their willingness to consume media such as reality shows with credulity and indifference to the partcipants. It is about the love of families and friends who unite against a common enemy. It is about the supposedly weak, with street smarts and cunning strategy overcoming powerful enemies.

Trying to reduce it to “children killing other children” is to miss the point. The killing is portrayed with negative consequences, with appropriate emotional impact to Katniss and the others who were forced to do it. Just look at their mentor, Haymitch. He is forever haunted by the demons of what he did.

And then we have the V-M, where homosexual child rape is a source of salvation? Hmm…
