Correct. Disagreement is certainly a part of democratic politics. But so are principles and integrity.
Right. The list was a mix. Abortion is a matter of morals - “principles and integrity” as you put it. Matters such as taxation or the best way to provide health care are prudential - there’s really nothing in the Bible that addresses them either way, because it was addressed to a time and place where Christians were a minority group that had no say in how the government was run.

“The test of true religion is that you forcibly take money from others and give it to the poor, the orphan and the widow.”

“Judge not unless ye be tolerant.”

“For I was hungry and you sent me to the government, I was thirsty and you sent me to the government, I was a stranger and you sent me to government housing, I was naked and you sent me to the government, I was sick and you sent me to the government, I was in prison and you sent me a government social worker.”

“Go and sin only when you can find an excuse for it.”

“Love does not reject wrongdoing, but rejoices with tolerance.”

“I am not the only way, nor the only truth, nor the only life.”

“Be fruitful and multiply, unless it is inconvenient. Then thou shalt kill.”

“Therefore a man or woman shall leave his/her father and his/her mother and hold fast to either his/her man or woman, and they shall become one flesh.”

“Thou shalt send thy father and they mother to a government bureaucrat to see whether they shall receive health care or die, so that your days may be long without them burdening you.”

“Thou shalt not bear false witness except when trying to put down those rascally republicans.”
Bwahaa, this is ridiculous and obviously written by a radical right person who may be self centered, selfish, and could care less if others live or die as long as he does not have to spend a cent of HIS money.

I guess you mean 1 Timothy 3:15 🙂
Actually one must address rule #2 as in Revelations and losing(not) your candlestick. Or what is not in the bible," Once right always right;that which has a good beginning must have a good ending; that which began in the Spirit will always remain in the Spirit"…Perhaps we should stick to the political side of the top ten.

Is this in the bible ,“The road to hell is paved with good intentions”?

It will shock you to learn, I’m sure, that the “right wing” is the most generous with their own money and time, and that liberals are actually very poor givers of their own resources.

So, while the appeal to the false rhetoric of the left is an accurate reflection of the left’s opinion, it’s also patently false.

No, that’s yet another thing the bible doesn’t say, but according to Wikipedia:
The saying is thought to have originated with Saint Bernard of Clairvaux who wrote (c. 1150), “L’enfer est plein de bonnes volontés et désirs” (hell is full of good wishes and desires).

To go back to my earlier suggested addition, “So long as your point is to be kind to the poor, it doesn’t matter how unkind you are to people who might possibly be (but probably aren’t) rich, but happen to disagree with you.”

–Jen

I’m going to steer my own posts away from the political, for now, though I like to argue politics. I also like Christian fellowship.

One More Thing The Bible Doesn’t Say
“But about that day and hour no one knows, neither the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. However, you might be able to figure out which pope will be in charge.”
CAF: Is Pope Francis the Final Roman Pontiff?

“and they shall be one invisible flock with one invisible shepherd” 😃

Is this in the bible ,“The road to hell is paved with good intentions”?
Is this in the bible “thou shalt be self centered and greedy and not care if others livest or diest as long as thou are not put out or asked to pay one cent of THY money, for lo no-one else mattereth but thyself only”?

No. Neither is “The greatest of these is charity; therefore charity shall be enforced at gunpoint in the most inefficient and wasteful way imaginable.”

I am sitting at this gifted to me computer wearing two year old holey pants and three year old shoes with holes in the soles, because I cannot afford new and better. The only reason I can even have that is the low SSI payment from the government, just $700 a month for everything bills, food, clothing, you name it.

I had a near fatal stroke 8 years ago and cannot work, drive, or even walk bathe and dress myself without a lot of assistance.

This is a very poor area for people who don’t work in the oil “bidness” and Catholic charities can only do so much which is very little because there are so many mouths to feed.

If I in my helpless state were to rely solely on non-governmental aid, private charities I would likely starve. Perhaps they would rule I was one of the “undeserving” poor once again I would starve.

Is this just?

Every dollar taken from citizens and funneled into government aid is a dollar not available to given to the Church or other private charities. The Church uses money 5 to 10 times as efficiently as the government when it comes to charitable services, and that is well documented. So no, you wouldn’t starve - if that were true then the fact that government aid programs are 100 times bigger than they were 50 years ago would mean that we should have conquered poverty by now.

Given that private charities are both more helpful and far more efficient than government programs, if tax dollars weren’t forcibly taken from income earning citizens to support inefficient government programs, the church would have more charity to help you and people who actually need help.

But we give up 20-50% of our income to the government.
