Also, we will not ban knives and body parts because they have other uses than killing. The only purpose of a gun is to kill something. Target shooting is just practice for killing something.

The logical extension to banning one class of gun is to eventually ban all of them (unless it’s a $5,000 skeet gun pulled out by politicians who want to show that they support “gun rights”). “Fudds” like Catholic Geek seem to think they can appease people who want to ban guns by being “reasonable.”

Why look at a hypothetical situation when it’s real situations that bring us to this discussion? The theater, the mall, the school, and the first responders.:rolleyes:

Actually, the “hypothetical” situation I proposed fits a broader more general reality that occurs much more often on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis than the “trend” you like to beat to death for political gain.

So let’s look at the “real situations” shall we?

According to FBI data, in 2010:

6,009 murders were committed with HAND GUNS

358 were committed with rifles (of various types not limited to “assault” rifles)

Well, this could bee a poor example because Olympic Biathlon got it’s beginning from the Norwegian military who practiced that way.

And the Javelin throw got it’s start from the Greek army, and hammer throw from the Gaelic wars. The question still remains, does the Olympics give medals to athletes who practice killing?

The way messages are given indicates the spirit in which they are given and how they should be received and discerned. I see a lack of charity in the tone from some. Some have nothing worthwhile to consider. It makes one look to the bishops for guidance all the more. 😉

And the way questions asked go ignored in order not have to defend an indefensible position also indicates the spirit of said message.

So is saying “I’m done” repeatedly.😉

The anatomy of a gun thread:
They usually start with a media report, sometimes the poster gives an opinion, sometimes he/she leaves it open ended.
Self defense is brought up, the police are always mentioned. The phrase “when seconds count, the cops are minutes away” is quoted and someone asks why an assault weapo/rifle is needed th defend oneself.
Several pages are typed trying to explain what an assault rifle is and why it differs from whatever an assault weapon is and the hi cap clip/mag is debated. In several it’s asked if you need an assault weapon, why not a fighter plane or tank.
The Second Amendment an the importance of the Constitution is introduced and as testosterone starts running low and the thread starts to fizzle the posts have less emotion in them…and before it dies, Bess is usually brought up.
Then, several who have been away come back and the same stuff is re-hashed and things start to get nasty
Finally, it comes down to two sides. those who’s minds will never be changed and those(like me) who start interjecting smart alec comments.😃
And then it dies…👍
