1200 Medical professionals say shutting down protests over COVID is wrong

True, except most of us don’t go the doctor’s office seeking aid from Value Judgers. We go to see doctors and nurses for medical advice.

I doubt the folks who don’t mind non-medical value judgements from these medical professionals would be fans of all doctor’s of telling patients “regarding your abortion/contraceptive use, you can do it, but it is sinful and you risk your immortal soul by doing so knowingly. Now, here’s your scrip.”

Let’s stick to medical facts which tend to be neutral and unbiased (or so we were told MANY times on this board during the myriad of coronavirus briefings. Viruses don’t care about income or political affiliation, etc).

Then who cares what 1200 medical professionals say about the riots? As the US has well over a million medical professionals, I’m not surprised that a paltry 1200 were liberal and expressive enough to value the right of expression over public safety.

Go to them to heal your boo-boo. Not obtain your social policy. That’s what I do, anyway.

They’re certainly allowed to have their opinions just like you. We just have the apparently difficult burden of realizing their medical credential only certifies them for medicine and not anything else.

More fodder for discussion, mostly, like half the random, spurious topics on here. I was curious if more of the “stay at home” fanatics would chime in, but not surprisingly thus far, they have not.
But it does show that anyone who points to “medical professionals” for coronavirus advice can’t automatically be granted your trust. Few people do not have an agenda in life.

It shows that to be true concerning the debate over public safety vs. the freedom of expression for roughly 1,200 of the over 1,000,000 healthcare professionals in the US.

To try and overstate the views of the 1,200 or even 12,000 as being representative of a greater whole is the classic logical blunder of over-generalization.

I recommend abandoning broad brushes.

Perhaps it does. I think it more reflects on these 1200 as idiots.

But to know if any sort of generalization is occurring, we’d have to have the other million or so way in on whether protests are more important than public health, which to date, they have not, and likely will not.

Then in the absence of that info, we’d be best off concluding the headline as rather immaterial.

Just fodder for generating more Us v. Them animosity that the righteous of history readily rebuked.

You described 90% of this boards topics. Look at the titles…

Not ones to be made by “medical professionals.”
Value judgements can and be made by everyone. And in the USA those judgements can be shared.

There is another discussion that could be had on who is allowed to enforce decisions made by that judgement. But that gets into a discussion of philosophies if rights; that’s a discussion that is difficult to have in this forum.

There is no doubt that mass gatherings facilitate transmission. This study investigates seroprevalence in Gangelt, Germany, finding a 2.5X increase in rate of infection of those attending carnival celebrations (https://medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.05.04.20090076v2…). 3/21

Silly Discourse glitch preventing tweets to be shown.

Not to mention the sources of infection in Spain are linked to soccer matches that took place in Italy. Many are wearing masks at the protests but many take them off to speak, chant and yell. The rule about masks is that they are to be worn throughout and consistently.

And remember spring break? Those people were on beaches! Outdoors. Warm to hot weather. These were sources of outbreaks elsewhere as the returning tourists brought it with them.

No, medical professionals. There are 1.1 million doctors alone in the United States, and I don’t know if this petition/survey was limited to the U.S. 1000 signatures is nothing. If you read what they sign, it had to do with racism, not COVID. I doubt many were actually doctors, as this would be a direct violation of their Hippocratic Oath.
