Of course, as a fan of Japanese anime, manga, and music, there’s a lot of stuff that you can’t get legally here because it’s not licensed for release or streaming in the States. That presents another set of problems, but I avoid fansubs and escalations at any rate. The legal sources pick up more than enough.
As a fellow fan of Japanese media, I feel your pain. Hulu used to be where I went to watch anime legally for free, but now they charge for everything, so I’ve moved to Crunchyroll. 😛 It’s all legal and mostly free (I think you need a monthly subscription to the website to watch certain anime), and they even have manga and dramas, too!

I’m a rebel. An independent; a free thinker. I don’t let society determine what I can and can’t do. 👍

Are u sure Hulu charges for everything now? I was on there recently and it seems like it’s the same to me. Of course, most of the things I checked were just anime series, and it looks like there are still many available to watch for free, on a PC or laptop anyway.

On CR, I remember researching on the ones that u do need a subscription for, and it’s mostly the ones Licensed by NIS America (Toradora, Arakawa Under the Bridge, Kimi ni Todoke, etc.). But yeah,
thankfully, most stuff is for free. 🙂

There’s loads of stuff Hulu doesn’t charge for. I watch Funimation series on there when Funi’s player doesn’t work for me. I also watch a British show called The Thick of It there as well.

Really? I may have been confusing regular Hulu with Huluplus… :doh2:

Should probably get back on Hulu soon then, I’m so behind on Naruto Shippuden! 😛

Yeah, luckily most of the anime I’m interested in is free. 🙂

I pay Netflix for their service. I would gladly pay 3 or 4 times what I currently pay to have access to the full US content. Netflix outside of the USA is severely lacking, though the price is the same across the board. As a result millions of non-Americans, while still paying their monthly subscription fees, use a VPN or other tools to view US content. It’s incredibly easy to do and Netflix can obviously tell that millions of customers are “hopping across boarders” on a daily basis. I find it difficult to feel guilty about this one. I discovered not too long ago that if I am using my company laptop, the US netflix content is available regardless of what country I’m in as it connects me to a US company server via VPN. It is an unintended side effect.

It is frustrating that they won’t even take my money- there are other services that are simply not available outside of the US- even if you wave huge stacks of cash (metaphorically) at the vendor.
