Is that official Catholic teaching? We (LDS) certainly believe in the literal 1,000 year reign of Christ on earth; and I doubt that your statement is historically accurate either.

The Antichrist’s deception already begins to take shape in the world every time the claim is made to realize within history that messianic hope which can only be realized beyond history through the eschatological judgment. The Church has rejected even modified forms of this falsification of the kingdom to come under the name of millenarianism, especially the “intrinsically perverse” political form of a secular messianism.

This way from the discussion but, i was one told pope were concerned that some before them made too many saints and they needed to consider carefully or the would reach 144k too quickly?

has anybody ever heard such / similar or is it my parishes urban legend?

No problem. Glad you brought it up, I had never heard that (wacky, imho) theory before.
When i was a boy i would not question my elderly considering they had authority and silence was respect.
