1500 years and nobody thought of it?

I know something all Protestants have in common. They don’t have a Pope.

It’s cute because that’s one of the most explicit doctrines in the whole Bible 👍

how is it explicit?
Matthew 16, 15-19
15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
16 Simon Peter said in reply, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
17 Jesus said to him in reply, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.
18 And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
19 I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

“Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” is pretty clear. St. Peter could change the Bible if he wanted to.

Where’s your sola scriptura now?

It’s “sola scriptura but not wholla da scriptura.”😛

Matthew 16, 15-19
And you interpret this to mean the Pope? That is interpretation. One of the things I find interesting is that the comon Christian does not know the difference between interpretation with aplication, and explicit teachings of scripture. For example: the present topic would be an interpretation that would be applied to the doctrine of papal supremacy. Chapel veils, as you have come to call them in the west, are explicit teachings of scripture.
“Call no man father” is a seeming explicit teaching to many protestants. They miss the implicit “Call no man pastor, borther, etc.”. This would be where protestants do the same as the Catholics and show themselves to be but to sides of the same coin.

Some deny Virgin Birth
Mormons Demy Divinity of Jesus
Mormans are not classified as Protestants proper by most people. Some even question if they are Christians, partially because they deny Christ’s divinity.

Who denies the Virgin Birth of Jesus?

And the Resurection is accepted by all Christians.

And you interpret this to mean the Pope?
Let me see, Peter is named the Rock on which the Church is to be built. Peter is promised the gates of the netherworld will not prevail against this Church. Peter is given the Keys to the Kingdom. Peter is told what he binds on earth is bound in Heaven, and what he binds on earth is bound in Heaven.

Peter proceeds to lead the Apostles after the Resurrection. Peter preaches the great sermon at Pentecost. Peter sets aside the Dietary Laws. Peter teaches Paul and speaks for him on the issue of circumcision for gentiles.

Yep – Peter was commissioned as and exercised all the functions of the Pope.

Let’s not play semantics, yes, Thomas Aquinas developed the idea of Transubstantion, but before that, nobody belived that the Eucharist was simply a memorial of something passed, or a piece of bread.

If you can find some, in all intellectual honesty, if anyone in the Early Christian Era saying that it is just bread, than I’d be surprised and would even start to take your protest a bit more seriously.

But that’s not the only alternative to the RC dogma.

It is perfectly possible to believe that Christ is, in some way beyond words, present in or to the Eucharistic Gifts, while denying the RC dogma of transsubstantiation.

There is no reason to suppose that because it is possible to see the RC dogma as a legitimate development of the faith of the Apostles (or of whoever else one might choose), they “must” for that reason have believed in it. That is bad logic, & bad history - & no good can come of ignoring facts like these. Which is why many Christians find Catholic “argument” to the contrary totally unpersuasive - as they should: a Church that needs to resort to illogic & lies & fiction in order to support its preaching is in a very poor state 😦

And so you confirm that it is implicit by use of history.

Their are Catholics who deny the virgin birth of Christ. Some are seminary Profs.
Their are some episcopal comunions as well as some ELCA Lutherens that see the Resurection as Alegory.

Unitarians don’t accept the Trinity.
Hi, Vern. I think the Unitarians are more akin to a social club, since you find almost the same variety of beliefs there. If they had a catechism, what would it say? Could there even be agreement on God’s nature or His manner of working amongst man?

Christ’s Advent peace.

When they deny the virgin birth of Christ, they cease to be Catholic. They may call themselves what they will, but they cannot actually be Catholic and deny the tenents of the Faith.

The Unitarians are a good example of the Kharisma of Infallibility. If Protestants had it, there would be no Unitarians.😛

The greatest proof of infallibility is that the Catholic Church has taught a consistent message for 2,000 years, and in less than a quarter of that time Protestantism has split, fragmented, quarreled, re-split, and re-fragmented.

Try this: When God moves within an individual as part of His covenant, he makes a radical change within that person. Consider simply the name changes. Abram to Abraham. Sarai to Sarah. Isaac to Israel. Simon to Cepha. What has been revealed to us in type, if not in name, as the first Pope is Christ’s appointment of Cepha as the foundation of His church in Matthew 16:18. That, and giving Cepha the power to bind “whatever” on earth and in Heaven - Apostolic succession for example. However you view Christ’s “whatever”, you must admit that it has been stunningly effective within the world’s oldest organization.

The Roman, Egyptian, Canaanite, Greek and all prevailing governmental entities and forms have all died off. The church, rightly called Catholic, remains and is gaining health, if anything. The remnant is increasing in faith even though many fall away. Once actual tribulation begins, the fallen away will begin to return in droves. We currently live off the fat of the land, but it will not always be so.

Even Billy Graham Crusades uses the Rev. Graham as a figurative Pope, allowing him to lead the faithful, call unbelievers to belief, to interpret scripture, control and direct the entire organization. That’s a form of Protestant Pope. I cannot see how figurative infallibility of Protestant leaders, pastors etc. differs in the believer’s eye from Papal infallibility - in practice, they are the same within each organization. In the truth, there is a difference.

Christ’s peace this Advent and Christmas.

I’ve done lots of homework, and I don’t know of even ONE Catholic doctrine which is accepted by all protestants.

Indeed ? And how would you know that ?

Maybe you’re confusing uniformity with unity in the Holy Spirit. They are not the same at all. If you are right, then an awful lot of Catholic polemic on these fora & against Protestants is a waste of time.

For a lot of Catholics, Christianity appears to consist in little more than spewing vomit on Protestants 😦

And for a lot of Protestants, Christianity appears to consist in little more than spewing vomit on Catholics. With this difference: This website is devoted to Catholic apologetics. We don’t go to Protestant websites and attack them. We merely defend Catholicism when they come here and attack us.

Who, for example? Please give us a citation of a writer for the declaration of the Doctrine of Sola Scriptura prior the the 16th century. I’m not talking about scripture being profitable for teaching, correction, etc. Give a citation which says that Scripture Alone is the Sole Rule of Faith.

Yes, it would be interesting to know which of the Apostles talks about the Immaculate Conception; or Transub’ion; or a lot of othe things that we have as dogmas, of which no Apostle or Father speaks one word.

If we have ways of getting around the silences & negations of our dogmas that are in RC tradition - there is every reason to believe that Protestants have ways of dealing with what we might see as difficulties in their doctrines.

We are in exactly the same position - our tradition is every bit as wonky as that of Protestantism. So why the non-stop fighting ? How does one one lice-infested beggar differ from another ?

And yet in the last two hundred years since Vatican I and the definition of that false hood look at what has taken place in the Catholic Church.
It is only the Orthodox that have stayed the same. The pope became the first among protestants as he refused the dignity of first among equals.
