As far as the post by b_justb “Don’t tell anyone who you voted for, its not our business” I totally disagree. It is our business when it concerns life.
Then we disagree. I hope you don’t get into any political power what-so-ever so as to alter the American system of voting from a secret ballot to making anyone’s vote open for anyone or to all for viewing.

The secret ballot is one of the greatest assurances to maintaining a democratic form of government.

To make any voters choice the business of anyone other than the voter is to destroy the democratic freedoms that are guaranteed by the democratic process.

Think about what you are looking at here. Your stance on pro-life issues, or any other issues, do not trump the idea of the secret ballot.

I think everyone is forgetting that the OP posted asking for advice. This has nothing to do secret ballots or minding our own buisness. Of course ballots are secret and should always remain this way. The OP was looking for a moral opinion.

Of course we could talk about the fact that the courts don’t allow us to vote on issues such as abortion…

Which is what I gave her. My opinion and advice. 🙂

ps - I think your idea of talking about the fact that the courts don’t allow us to vote on issues such as abortion is a VERY good one. New Thread-age?

If you ask me this is only encouraging democrats to have more babies.

How can you be “too Consititutional”? I’m for disbanding the Dept of Education as well…what a waste of $$$ this has been and our schools have gotten worse.

I’m not for the repeal of the voting rights act. Not sure about the disbanding the Energy Dept–will have to read more 1st.

I can never knowingly vote for a pro-abortion candidate. If there’s no candidate I feel I can vote for I can always cast a write-in vote. This way I exercise my right to vote and don’t break with Church teaching.
Maybe we should all write in “Pope Benedict XVI” 😛
unfortunately, he’s not a U.S. Citizen…

Who would be the next best choice then that we could write in, 'cause honestly, I was real tempted to do that last week…election in 06 and 08 are going to be a royal pain…
I’m ready to write in names for almost every position rather than vote for what’s on the table…

Maybe the local Bishop? 🙂

I started this thread with the thought in mind that we have to send a message that if you are not pro life we will not back you. The only ear that we have is the republican party, the democrat party has already made themselves VERY clear about the issue.

As in the Illinois election for governor, a pro choice governor will be elected, both candidates that have any chance are pro choice. Since we lose either way, shouldnt we look to the future and at least not waste the vote, send the message to the republican party that we see the erosion among republicans on the pro life stance and want it to stop?

We have to unify and that is the real answer. We need to make our pro life voice heard.

Okay, I can understand not voting for a pro-choice republican. No problem. Withholding your vote from the republican gives him or her incentive to be pro-choice. But under that logic, why vote for the pro-choice democrat?

If, in the absence of a “perfect” republican, you decide to vote for a pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, pro-socialist democrat, then where is the incentive for the democrat to actually hold the right position on issues?

I am sure open to any suggestions that will DISCOURAGE the erosion.

But not sure where you come up with the term “perfect” republican. The only issue I am talking about is the pro life stance. I have not mentioned any other issues only the most important one.

Your use of the word “perfect” seems to trivialize the issue and that to me is the main reason for the erosion.

Good point. I didn’t mean for “perfect” to sound like I was trivializing, but in retrospect it does sound that way.

One thing those of us who are against abortion should do is start getting involved in more primaries to get pro-life candidates on the ballot. Catholics and evangelicals alone are well over half the population, so if they vote accordingly, pro-choicers could be out of the office in the near future. Unfortunately, many sit on the sidelines during the nomination, then end up voting pro-choice in the election.

I wouldn’t vote for Blagojevich to punish the Republicans, because that is rewarding someone whose track record in general, and on abortion in particular, is worse than Topinkas. Best bet is to vote third party or sit out, but don’t vote pro-choice…and get involved in the primaries next time.

Blessings.

Does a write in candidate have to be a real person? Does anyone know?

Could a movement start that the write in would be “Pro Life” not the name of a person, just Pro Life? Would make it easy to remember and people could sure count the number of votes they missed out on.

There has to be a better way to have our voice heard.
