Amen to that! what does the world want with these holy men? all a priest has to do now is be metres away from a child and the next thing he knows he is being slapped with a paedophile suit. I have priest friends and they would not allow themselves to be in the same room with a child un chaperoned. See what we are doing to our holy men? Whenever there is a meeting of the Altarboys my parish Priest asks that I attend for HIS protection.The nurse is in the examining room for the Doctor’s protection.Canadian teachers according to rules established by their association are FOREBIDDEN to be alone with a child of either sex.No different from a priest-guidelines have gone out from ALL Canadian Diocese and I would presume worldwide.The problem IS being fixed.

I haven’t read the details of the poll, but it does raise questions regarding extrapolations and the question of --were those polled telling the truth? Did they know somebody who knew somebody–that is, what degree of separation? Or were they thinking of someone they had heard or seen on radio/TV? Then again, is there a certain percentage who were all referring to the same person? There *are *people who know a lot of people–if one of these people has been abused and tells everyone, then those folks could all be referring to the same person…

I’ve noticed a fair bit of hostility directed personally at me in this thread, and for what? For my having posted a factual news article. An article that points out that 2 million Canadians have known someone who’ve been abused by a Catholic Priest.

I’m left thinking that many around here would have been happy not to have known about this shocking story.

I would have thought that any hostility would be directed at the child abusers, and not at someone who posts the story about the abusers.

Not puzzling at all when one becomes a connosieur of the consistancy of your posts as I and others here have.We have defended the Faith.pointed out thar Ipso-Reid has very questionable methodology and has been criticised by Government and people who are very close to pollsters and poll-taking.We’ve pointed out the ludicrous numbers of this “study’ and the Bishops response to it and you have the nerve to say that because we have dismissed this tripe that you detect"personal hostilty”?If you want to play in the “Bigs”,you may have to develop thicker skin.We Catholics certainly have over the past 2000 years.Your definition of “factual” and ours may differ slightly.I am not so naiive as to believe everything that I read from a source that is no friend of the Truth.Do you even bother to read posts which rebut your posits and sources?
