If I were a gay liberal atheist reading Catholics falling over themselves to argue how raping a 10-13 year old boy is not pedophilia, blaming parents for sending their kids to camp, and stating that the coach who didn’t follow up when the perpetrator was not arrested shouldn’t be fired, it wouldn’t do much to convince me that my moral compass is the one that needs to be adjusted.
You are right. If you were a gay, liberal atheist, you would be living in darkness. If you love your sin, nothing here will change that.
19This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. 20Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed. 21But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”

After reading the Grand Jury Report, I think the mother’s of the victims (and perhaps the victims themselves, since many are now in their 20s) ought to be placed in a room with Sandusky for 20 minutes. What happens, happens.

I also think everyone in the athletic departments ought be to be cleaned out and they start over from fresh.

Absolutely sickening.

The nature of the incident that was covered up sickens many. However, what we do seem to tolerate as a society is the mafia mentality at educational institutions (and to be honest, other institutions too), where the people who are seen as “our own” are protected at all costs through abuse of influence, a ‘pack mentality’ and even outright intimidation of those who would break with that ‘pack’. It happens, many of us know it, are complicit in it and live in denial - imagining that we are somehow better than the Paternos and McQuearys of this world.

I would be OK with that. There might be forgiveness and healing. The only addition I would ask for is police supervision. I’m against violence against Gays.

 Paterno reported the incident the following day to Tim Curley the AD as he was supposed to.
Suppose to? According to whom? I believe and agree this was the incorrect legal way to handle the situation.

He “should” have reported it to the “police”. There’s the issue, then the situation continued up the chain of command, and become a “cover-up”. Making “all” involved just as wrong as each other.

Whatever accomplishment he achieved as a NCAA coach will always be noted. However his moral, ethical judgement went to the concern of the athletic dept. and not the victim.

Where was “justice”? With the Penn State athletic dept? 🤷

Peace

You wouldn’t read any of the other posts that gave an exact opposite opinion? You wouldn’t see the thread as a bunch of people trying to make some sense of a shocking and terrible situation? If you were a gay liberal atheist and came to the conclusion that your moral compass wasn’t the one that needed adjusting, I would say you’re looking for an excuse to continue with your behavior.

Do you honestly think Joe Paterno didn’t have control over who was allowed to used the football facilities? Then there is the small issue of why Sandusky retired in 1999.
Let’s try this again. 😛

There is talk that Paterno tried to push him to retirement back then saying he would never have the head coaching position at Penn State. Now, that leads to speculation about the incident that happened in 1998 being with an 11 y.o. boy in the shower if that was the reason for that. But nobody knows if Paterno knew about that particular incident, and it is believed (at least for now) that he didn’t know about any incidents prior to 2002.

Sandusky said he retired in 1999 to spend more time with his organization “The Second Mile”. He was quoted as saying: “As the organization has grown, the demands for my hands-on involvement have increased dramatically” :ehh:

As far as who was behind the retirement deal that allowed him to have continued access to the facilities, I don’t know. But when you think about it, why wouldn’t they agree to it? He was on the coaching staff for 3 decades. He was a part of the 2 National Championship teams, and 4 of the 5 undefeated seasons under Paterno. He became the defensive coordinator in '77 and helped to build the Penn State reputation as “Linebacker U”.

Did they wonder if he had intentions of bringing boys to the facilities? I doubt it unless they had known about the previous incidents, which they probably didn’t.

This is one of the issues we still need to find out about yet…

It’s kind of peculiar how I read the same posts, and have not decided to stop being a faithful Catholic, and become a liberal Gay atheist. I was at one time, before 1980, a liberal, but never Gay, and never atheist.

I came very close to being an atheist, but Christ wouldn’t let me. 👍

Paterno did what he was required to do.

very peculiar. as was obvious from my prior comments, immediately upon reading those posts I left my wife, started following the huffington post, and began looking forward to sleeping in on Sunday mornings.

If Paterno was that big of fool he should have been fired long ago.

Unfortunately, the only way to motivate real institutional reform is through lawsuits and big damage awards. Sadly, that was even the case with some of the all-too-human men running our beloved Church. But once the powers that be realize what cover-ups can cost their organization, they become much more open to a rigorously enforced zero-tolerance & mandatory-reporting approach.

One of the things that really amazes me about the Penn State situation is that it all happened in the late 1990s and the 2000s! This wasn’t back in the 1970s, before most people became sensitized to the signs of child abuse and the deceptive techniques of child molesters. All of Penn State coaches and administrators involved should have known better.

homosexual men like to have sex with boys. that’s the only thing worth saying about this story. everything else is a diversion from this essential truth. the left assures us that homosexuality is completely normal, but in the next breath it refers to this guy as a monster. whay incredible hypocrisy.

You have certainly done a nice job of illustrating a point about liberals. It’s right there, in plain sight, that I stated “this isn’t funny”, then you state just the complete opposite! It’s plainly obvious! It’s just sitting there! It’s just in plain sight! What is it that causes liberals to ignore the plainly obvious?

Sandusky’s alleged actions are homosexual. The truth about homosexuality is plainly obvious in the Bible, and the Catechism. Then, occasionally, liberals pretend to be offended by it when it happens. They go into a hysteria, lest we catch on to the phoniness of their offendedness.

And I HAVE experienced abuse, from homosexuals!

I can barely write this. I have been distressed for days by the responses by liberals on this forum. This is plainly preposterous, and heretical, to create hysteria over this one man, while, at the same time, carefully drawing fine distinctions between various shades of immorality, in order to justify the majority of it, while scapegoating just a small segment of the immoral.

brilliant.

another example of this: liberals are disgusted by child porn, and by sex acts committed against children. but they will fight to the death for their right to have porn anytime, anywhere, they want it. they are perfectly happy with the cesspool (porn) that leads to even more immoral behavior (fornication, adultery, homosexuality, abortion).
