Movingmom…

I think Palmer’s sister represents the ACLU in this season’s
run. The show seems to try to show the tension between
our civil rights and the need to corral a very dangerous
enemy in our midst.

Fighting terrorism is a no win situation. Everyone loses
when the enemy is hidden among the populace. It’s like
a metastized cancer.

She is an idealist. I’m hoping she comes to her senses
during the season!

Cactus Jack - Card Carrying 24 Addict ! ! ! 😃

did anyone else think that the father got what was coming to him? I usually feel bad for the victims but I was just hoping that the father got killed. What a selfish coward. He indirectly caused the deaths of whoever died because of the nuke going off. The thing that most upset me was he was willing to kill and perhaps get himself killed to help terrorist but not willing to take his chances in getting killed and overcoming one badly injurred boy and saving everyone.

Hey everyone! It’s less than a week til “Jack Bauer time”. I am so excited. Anyone else??

Kathy
Absolutely! Actaully as I respond to this the four hour premier has aired. It did not disappoint. Just think, starting next week we will only get one hour per week! 😦

All I can say is WOW for the first 4 episodes. I cannot wait for next week!

Just once I’d like to see Jack raise his eyes toward heaven and plead, “Oh please. Don’t tell me it’s going to be one of *those *days again!”

Seriously, though, I can’t help being bugged by minor mistakes. Going north on Florence? I don’t think so. That street runs east-west. It does intersect with Highway 7, sort of. Wasn’t the 7 (the Long Beach Freeway) renamed the 710? And anyone who’s lived in southern California a long time wouldn’t refer to a freeway as a highway.

I know we’re supposed to suspend our disbelief when watching TV shows, but little details like that tend to ruin it for me.

:hmmm: minor details 😃 little things ruin it for you…
it is a drama …I don’t think Jack has much time for humor:p

Actually they called it “Route 7”, not “Highway 7”. I was thinking that unless they are talking about a bus route there is no time I’ve never heard of any streets in LA county referred to as Route anything. At least Florence is a real name.

A couple years ago they said something was at the corner of Topanga and, I think Canoga. Pretty hard for that to work since they are parallel streets. Usually they use the names of streets that are close to “CTU”'s Chatsworth location. Last season they used the name of the street that the studio is actually located on as a means of Jack getting to CTU. …except that the street doesn’t go all the way to where Jack started out.

I was thinking that the Six Flags in Jack’s universe probably wishes they had actually decided to sell Magic Mountain to developers and that they’d closed the deal last year.

I suspect that they are trying to avoid associating fictional locales with real places on the map. You really wouldn’t want someone going out to a certainn intersection to check on what’s there, now would you?

Actually an acquaintance of my husband, who is a crew member for 24, (the acquaintance, not my husband), laughingly told my husband that we aren’t supposed to really know where these places are.

I’ve heard that is is common to use street names that actually exist in the cities where shows are filmed, even if the fictional setting is not the same as the filming location.

Those of us who actually live/have lived in southern California just laugh when we see that Jack can get from point A to point B in 10 minutes when it takes us twice as long to go half the distance. It makes the other things Jack does seem quite believable in comparison.

Except maybe Route 66.

However, even here in San Bernardino where Route 66 begins (or ends, depending on which direction you’re going), it’s referred to as 5th Street. Nobody would say, “He took Route 66 to get downtown” or “He got off the freeway at Route 66.”

The reason such little details on 24 bug me is because they stand out and therefore detract from the action.

Well, at least it was Valencia that got blown up, which is far enough away unless the wind and fallout happen to be blowing in my direction. On the other hand, aren’t there four more bombs out there? Who knows, maybe I’m next! 😛 Or maybe this season I’ll get saved by Jack! 😃

Hrm…I was going to say… seeing as how the song starts you off in Chicago (at Jackson and Michigan).

We have the same problem here when something is filmed in Chicago. Everyone chuckles, for instance, at all the stuff which Ferris Buelher managed to do in one solitary afternoon. But, again, seeing as how it is a work of fiction, I think we just need to try to get beyond it.

it was only a baby nuke even though saying that seems oxymoronic. I think you are definitely safe. In fact, I think I am even safe being only 30 miles away.

Chicago, wasn’t Hill Street Blues based on being in Chicago?

Though I didn’t follow the show, I believe so, yes. As I recall, they used an old police station on Maxwell St. as the backdrop for where they were supposed to be.

WOW! Can you believe that creep from last season turns out to be Jack’s brother? Interesting turn of events. One hour is just not long enough:nope:
