Does anyone think that Jack’s dad could somehow have lived? I mean, they never showed him actually being killed.

They definitely left that as a possibility. But I don’t think anything will come of it. 24 took too much criticism for using cliche plot devices this year, er, day.

I could maybe see the Chinese or whoever the next villain is trying to convince Jack that his father is still alive.

Ok…tell me, where’s the electronic device they were trying to get back to the Russians. I know in part of it, Jack’s dad handed it to the Chinese when they got this grandson back…so does that mean it was destroyed…or did the Chinese guy they took into prison somehow keep it on his person when he was in the helicopter. I don’t recall him being handcuffed when they got him onboard…but maybe I missed that part.

The official 24 website fox.com/24/episodes/ has the following information for 5:19 A.M.

“Cheng’s men spot the CTU helicopter coming towards them. Cheng cautions Phillip to board a small boat. Its locator beacon will be picked up by the sub. Cheng hands Phillip the circuit board and goes outside to see about the chopper.”

There is no further mention of the circuit board in the summary. It was also my recollection that Phillip Bauer had it until the end. I don’t remember him saying so but I guess Josh could have told Jack and Bill that Phillip still had that circuit board. So the circuit board would either have been destroyed in the explosion or thrown into the ocean where the salt water would ruin it.
