Sounds like the Salem witch hunts in New England centuries ago; or any other pogrom like those carried out against the Jews accused of taking away business from good Christians, or killing Christian babies for arcane rituals centuries ago; or worst of all Hitlerās evil.
Pogroms of the kinds spoken about happen throughout history. They are evil; they happen. It is up to the world to stop them. That means being informed, truly informed, about what is happening.
Our reading about Islam is usually from the popular press which aims to sell newspapers. It is important to read something more accurately informative - an article in the UK
Economist magazine for example, or in the New York Times, to understand in a more balanced way what is happening between factions within Islam, and between Islam and the outside world.
What is happening in Iraq, what is consequent on the actions of suicide bombers, is only the tip of a very large and complex iceberg which is related to politics (Islam is different from Christianity in that it has always been intextricably linked with governance and politics), economics, marginalisation, unemployment and overeducation, wealth in the midst of international poverty, local poverty in the midst of international wealth.
If you were a Muslim, what would your take on it be? Imagine you are a mother wandering around in your street, destroyed by whatever troops; imagine you are a young Palestinian barred from your work in Israel; imagine you are a culturally feudal Afghani warlord just like the aristocracy in Britain in the dark ages and following.
This is a far more complex situation that we can comprehend, most of us. Read, read, read - and something other than the local papers. Or watch BBC UK Hard Talk, something other than CNN. Get a better grip on the issues.
Why do muslims hate us so much? The truth is that they, for the most part, donāt. Certain political factions, young bloods, and those who perceive themselves to have been marginalised do. Otherwise, they are People of the Book like we are. They share our scriptures. They worship the same God.
You will notice in Iraq that when the new government was installed, Iraqis turned against themselves (Kurd, Sunni, Shariah) and more or less away from foreign troops. The internecine battle is more important. Same in Afghanistan: warlords are back in power, virtually ignoring their new national government.
Hardening our stance on Islam does not help in the long run to resolve the current fractures between the two religions. I do not believe we are at the point of having to have another Crusade to quell The Infidel (as was). The situation is entirely different, and far more a product of economics than of religion. Go read, watch, Google - but not your local press.
