Keeping up Appearances
Oh, I forgot about that show! I love it! I love the characters, especially Onslow and Daisy–they have more class than Hyacinth! And of course, the music teacher and his sister Elizabeth–I love the way her hands shake whenever she picks up Hyacinth’s “Royal Doulton” china, and Hyacinth serves her in a “beaker”!

Thanks for the morning laugh!!! I have a DVD of the show–I’ll have to get it out again!

An English friend told me about the show years ago, and she tried to explain why the British say “Our Daisy”–that it involves acceptance? Not sure about this–maybe a Brit can chime in and explain it again.

Yeah, my husband and I used to watch that show regularly. I didn’t think it was as funny as Fawlty Towers, but it was still pretty funny. I saw Patricia Routledge in “The Importance of Being Earnest” in the West End in 1999, she was funny in that too.

“Our _____” is Liverpool/ Manchester usage to refer to someone’s sibling or close friend or close friend’s sibling, especially when they’re doing something questionable. It could indicate that they’re still part of the “family” or that there’s a close enough relationship that one could tell them to stop with the bad behavior.

Oh, yes, let’s not forget the Munsters, and the Addams Family TV shows. Those two were my all-time favorites. Not crazy about the Addams Family movies – they haven’t made much sense.

Although it wasn’t on long, The Young Ones is still one of my favorite shows. I can watch it over and over again.

The Office- USA version
Stranger Things
Twilight Zone
X Files
I Love Lucy/ Andy Griffith ( Barney years only)

Thunderbirds
Dr Who (William Hartnell, Jon Pertwee & Tom Baker seasons)
Hill Street Blues
Star Trek The Next Generation
The Onedin Line

Honourable mentions to The Saint, Captain Scarlett & the Mysterons, Poldark (original series), Secret Army and Mission Impossible

The Onedin Line, there’s a blast from the past! I thought I was the only person watching that back then! 😉

Has anyone seen The Young Pope? Was about to start but thought of asking here.
