Not a fiction series, but I watch any Masterchef I can understand the language. Love cooking competitions.

And the debate rages on…! My husband and I think that Ross was WRONG. I get that others see it differently…
Great story, @Peeps. I was in a similar situation in my 5th grade. Very interesting post, practically riveting.
I was bullied by the same girl who lived a few houses down from kindergarten through high school graduation. Sometimes she was the ringleader, bringing others in, but she herself was consistently relentless and I completely broke…during the fifth grade, like you both.

How could I have forgotten Father Brown (miss Inspector Sullivan, though; I am not a fan of Inspector Mallory at all)? And Jeremy Brett’s Sherlock Holmes 🕵️‍♂️

As a kid, even into high school, I loved watching all the ‘old’ shows: Dick Van Dyke, Leave it to Beaver, Andy Griffith, etc.

My kids (teens) are REALLY struggling with the lockdown and last night we found out there will be no returning to school, to be reassessed the end of October. My kids have been stuck at home for six months and whilst independent, good students, and introverts all, they were desperately looking forward to school and the interaction. Anyhow, my youngest girl (13) brings out their childhood shows and we watched VeggieTales. It was delightful and helped ALL of us escape for awhile to simpler times when everyone was little. It did everyone’s heart good. Things were easier before my kids learned, as they always do, that mommy and daddy don’t have all the answers, that life is a struggle, that the world is incredibly unpredictable, unfair, and at times, cruel. It was easier when they’d all watch and sing with Bob the tomato and Larry the cucumber and I did all the ‘worrying’.

“Bless me Father Brown, for I have sinned”… I too forgot about you and I watch you every week ! Mea culpa. 😭

It was just that I couldn’t believe that I forgot something that I watch every single week !
Yeah, it might not be great TV, but at least Father Brown is shown as following his vow and being celibate. I used to watch Grantchester, but the overt sexual ways they keep portraying the Anglican clergy… 😲. True, they don’t take a vow of celibacy, but it seems like Sidney and Will sleep around and don’t have too many morals. I have totally lost interest in the show.

*Ok, so I’m a little boring. So what?
Tommy999, were you born in the late 1950s or early 1960s? (last of the Baby Boomers?).

My husband and I were born in 1958/1957 respectively, and we would have had pretty much that same list!

Aww! Hang in there.

When my kids were teenagers, they helped me with a “Veggie Tales” VBS–and one of the fun things my girls did was make Larry and Bob out of real vegetables, along with other real-vegetable people. I remember we had an ear of corn that they made into a really cute person!

The display was so funny, and we had a hard time concentrating on the serious stories in the VBS every time the display caught our eye!

Maybe your teens would like to mess around and try it?! It’s hilarious!

And if the designs come out looking good, maybe you can invite the neighborhood to “tour” the display (socially distancing of course) and make a donation to a good children’s program or charity in your town.

And if the designs don’t come out so good–salad for supper!

that just showed complete lack of character
That’s what we think. So, he loved and yearned for Rachel for YEARS, finally they’re together, he gets jealous because she has a good looking coworker, they fight, agree to take a break, then mere hours later he throws YEARS away with the copy girl? Nah…,

Same with season nine Jim in The Office. They couldn’t just show a healthy marriage. They had to make it ‘not boring’ and Jim acted completely out of character towards the woman he adores and for whom he has such a tender devotion? Did you know they were going to have Jim and Pam actually divorce? I think it was John Krasinski who talked them out of it (thank goodness). It’s not like television is full of couples in healthy marriage–a good marriage IS the anomaly.

I don’t watch cable TV series so if I don’t have them on DVD or if they aren’t on broadcast TV I have never seen them.

Columbo 70s. Along with the Twilight Zone it had some of the best guest stars as any series
The Twilight zone late 50/60s
Jeopardy. Hang in there Alex Trebeck
The Honeymooners. Never gets old
The Blacklist. Except for Jeopardy the only recent show I watch

Yes, I was born in 1957, my wife in 1958. We’re about 6 months apart, although she uses every chance to tell people that she’s married to an “older man”. 😀

Note: I am also sorry to hear about your childhood trauma, but am glad you overcame it with flying colors and turned into the fine person that you are today.

Kids can be so mean sometimes, especially when they are weak-minded and following the lead of a bully. Too bad there wasn’t an “anti-bullying” campaign in schools back then.

When I was in grade school, I was often chosen (not sure why) by the teacher at my public school to help welcome new boy students to our class and help introduce them to their new classmates so that they would feel more at home sooner. At first, I viewed it as punishment but later I didn’t mind, as I often made a new friend that way.
