Do you think Michael Mann has ever won a Nobel Prize?
No, of course he hasn’t won a Nobel Prize. He contributed to the work of an organisation that won the Nobel Prize, but no individual person from that organisation is a Nobel laureate. Michael Mann’s university webpage stated: “He shared the Nobel Peace Prize with other IPCC authors in 2007.” The biography was presumably written by somebody other than himself personally anyway. As soon as the error was highlighted it was amended. I know that climate change denialists are a bit obsessed with Michael Mann, but I don’t think it was anybody’s intention to fraudulently claim that he was personally a Nobel laureate. Lord Monckton of Brenchley, on the other hand, had no involvement whatsoever with the IPCC’s work that resulted in the award of the Nobel Peace Prize. In fact, he has tried to undermine the IPCC’s work. His claim to be a Nobel laureate wasn’t a careless error or even an exaggeration, it was an outright lie.

Not really. He is a liar, a fraud, and a bigot. Why would I trust the climate science claims of a man who pretends to have invented a cure for two thirds of known diseases? He is not a scientist of any kind whatsoever. And I stand by my point that only very poor scientists would choose someone like Lord Monckton to be their spokesman. A serious scientist would want to have nothing at all to do with him.

Lord Monckton’s grandfather was the Right Honourable Walter, Viscount Monckton of Brenchley, GCVO, KCMG, MC, PC, QC, who served as Attorney General of the Duchy of Cornwall, Deputy Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs, director general of the Ministry of Information, Member of Parliament, Solicitor General, Minister of Labour and National Service, Minister of Defence, Paymaster-General, chairman of the Midland Bank and the Iraq Petroleum Company, chancellor of the University of Sussex, standing counsel to the University of Oxford, chancellor of the Diocese of Southwell, etc.
His father was Major General the Right Honourable Gilbert, Viscount Monckton of Brenchley, CB, OBE, MC, DL, Grand Officer of the Order of Leopold II of Belgium, Commander of the Order of the Crown of Belgium, recipient of three Catholic knighthoods, Conservative and later crossbench member of the House of Lords, director of public relations at the War Office, chief of staff at the headquarters of the British Army of the Rhine, colonel of the 9th/12th Royal Lancers and honorary colonel of the Kent and Sharpshooters Yeomanry Squadron, president of the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies, president of the Anglo-Belgian Union, director of the Anglo-Portuguese Bank, Burberry, and Ransomes, Sims & Jefferies, etc.
