In the book of revelations it says that if you work out the numbers 666 you will find out the identity of the man that bares the mark.

“Let the one with understanding reckon the meaning of the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man. His number is 666.”

Has anyone worked it out yet?
TO THE PRIESTS, OUR LADY’S BELOVED SONS

(Private Revelations)
  1. The Number of the Beast: 666
Calculate now its number, 666, to understand how it indicates the name of a man. The number, 333, indicates the divinity. Lucifer rebels against God through pride, because he wants to put himself above God.333 is the number which indicates the mystery of God. He who wants to put himself above God bears the sign, 666, and consequently this number indicates the name of-Lucifer, Satan, that is to say, of him who sets himself against Christ, of the Antichrist. 333 indicated once, that is to say, for the first time, expresses the mystery of the unity of God. 333 indicated twice, that is to say, for the second time, indicates the two natures, that of the divine and the human, united in the divine Person of Jesus Christ. 333 indicated thrice, that is to say, for the third time, indicates the mystery of the Three Divine Persons, that is to say, it expresses the mystery of the Most Holy Trinity. Thus the number, 333, expressed one, two and three times, expresses the principal mysteries of the Catholic faith, which are: (1) the Unity and the Trinity of God, (2) the incarnation, the passion and death, and the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. If 333 is the number which indicates the divinity, he who wants to put himself above God himself is referred to by the number 666.

Paul actually doesn’t say the coming/parousia is a mystery. He says the gathering or ‘harpazo’ is the mystery.
Paul did say that
that day will not come unless the rebellion comes first and the lawless one is revealed,
For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work,
And you know what is now restraining him, so that he may be revealed when his time comes.
And then the lawless one will be revealed
Paul’s description of the coming anti-christ is focused on teaching that he is hidden. He teaches what will signal his appearance. The rebellion.
How could he keep so many people for so long under his control? The dragon
The coming of the lawless one is apparent in the working of Satan, who uses all power, signs, lying wonders, 10 and every kind of wicked deception for those who are perishing,
because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

Punishment for sin
For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion, leading them to believe what is false, 12 so that all who have not believed the truth but took pleasure in unrighteousness will be condemned.
Satan;is doing the deluding and lying. That’s God’s Punishment for the followers of anti-christ.

The mystery of the anti-christ ( Lawless one). He is half of the parousia. A revealing of Truth and untruth as sin comes to a head in history. No? Christ defeats him

> whom the Lord Jesus will destroy with the breath of his mouth, annihilating him by the manifestation of his coming.

For me I like to think 666 being the mark of the beast that is the anti Christ is anyone who refuses to believe in Jesus the Christ, not some boogie man who is to come.
How would that prevent someone from buying and selling?

You do know that those prostrations originated from Eastern Christianity right? Are you saying that Eastern Christians bear the mark of the beast, or are secretly Muslim? Because they’ve suffered more under Muslims that almost anyone else except maybe other Muslims.

Hi Luke-Suncook, I am not to sure that the mark of the beast will prevent anyone from buying and selling, if it a literal interpretation of St. John. St. John in his Epistles did make reference to a anti-christ but it seemed to me he was referring to those who refuse to believe in Christ Jesus. Can there be at some future point in time a person who is the anti-christ? maybe and when is that supposed to happen? No one knows. Can there be a man with the mark of the beast maybe. it seems due to Jewish assigning numbers to letters of the their alphabet , it seems John used it in his Revelation to mask Nero, although since that time many have come to interpret it to whatever idea they have as to what they want it to mean or think it might mean.

Could the mark of the beast prevent anyone from buying and selling I think that as along as man has free will no mark will prevent him from doing what he wills like buying and selling. Jesus said no one knows the time when the world will end. meaning I think is that it is not an aid to one’s salvation since if man did know he could sin as often as he might and then at the end beg forgiveness, instead of working out his salvation by not knowing the time of the end and trusting in God through Christ and the Holy Spirit.

The Book of Revelation is loaded with symbolic descriptions using images not easy to comprehend. Due to the persecutions of the time by Rome suggests that Christians need to stand firm in their faith and avoid compromise with paganism despite the threat of adversity and martyrdom and and wait patiently the fulfillment of God’s mighty promises and the triumph of God in the world of men remains a mystery to be accepted in faith and long for in hope.

Nero is the symbolic beast. Early manuscripts have both 666, and 616 as the number of the beast.

When Nero Caesar in Greek is transcribed into Hebrew, the letters correspond to numerals that add up to 666. Nero Caesar in Latin, when transcribed, adds up to 616.

Nero was used because his ruthlessness towards the faithful was still fresh in early Christian minds. He was also head of the Roman State pagan religion.

I gave several reasons why NERO can’t be the beast in an earlier post.

To say this bea

John was not predicting the rise of Nero. John was using Nero as an example from the past to describe what was to come

Hi Luke-Suncook, This is how I see the verses you used from Revelation: I see it as evil the (dragon) tried to vanquish God, but Michael the Archangel won out. So where then does the evil turn? Against the Church, against the woman in the desert. it seeks out the woman and pursues her. in the same way it seeks out everyone in our own weaknesses and pursues us. satan is determined. he can’t win over the Lamb, so he turns to the followers of the lamb. The woman is the symbol of the followers of the lamb. moving on from verse 13 to 14; John here is saying that God does not delay in protecting His Church. We, then when evil tempts us can say Give us wings O Lord so we can fly to the desert of your protection. God watches over his faithful ones those who place their trust in God. Moving on to 15 and 16 The earth then came to the woman’s rescue by opening its mouth and swallowing the spew. The sea and spewing water are apocalyptic symbols that represent destructive power the sea was the source from which the evil one sprang. land is also evil in apocalyptic literature but in this sense John alters the meaning now the land become the protector of the Church. Now as for the number 666 used as the mark of the beast refers to Nero since Nero personifies the emperors who viciously persecuted the Church.

It would seem to me those that heard Revelation during John’s time would have understood its meanings. They would have understood that 666 referred to the emperors who were persecuting Christians. it is most likely John thought that persecutions were going to continue for some time. That being said, its possible also that John was referring to a person that at some future point would cause worldwide evil to prevail for a time before its vanquished forever. In the meantime there will always be those who are one can call anti-christs because they do evil.

Luke-Suncook, i rather doubt that revelation refers to the Temple Mount or Muhammad. As a matter of fact look to Jesus’s saying no one knows the day or time when the world will end, yet so many try to make revelation just that a oracal of doom that tells when the world is going to end all one needs to do is unlock it to find the right time and day. So many interpretations but so far nothing. Why worry about when but worry about the now and how one is living in the way Christ taught?

Well Luke Suncook, all I can really say is i don’t worry about it all. I try to live in the now not the future or the past. If revelation has meaning for me its how I need to live my life now. I don’t when anything in revelation might happen. I don’t worry who the anti christ might be. I have enough troubles for today than worry about what might be tomorrow. Evil has been in the world since the time of Adam and Eve and till Christ returns it will continue yet as long as people are willing and do good and the more good there is the less evil there will be

No offense but your focus seems to be on Islam and they’re just the enemy of the day. Christians are, in the US at least, constantly being fed a new enemy for each generation and I’m not saying that our nations enemies aren’t bad guys I’m just saying we’re being constantly fed a new enemy to keep us in suspense and continuing to subscribe to the medias mind feeding. We had people saying it was Hitler in WWII then some soviet dictator for the cold war now its the middle easterners and it just seems kind of dumb to always assume your nations enemy is the antichrist. I mean the antichrist is the enemy and will come eventually just don’t fall for a constant political ploy or media mind set that tells you whom to hate. Now since I haven’t contributed yet I’m guessing the guy will come at a time of great strife, with a slick tongue, will become a politician and will be another take over the world kind of guy. It’s probably going to be a politician in the US or Russia I think because of the convenience of all the nukes and war toys.
