**Listen Choy, do you believe that Muhammad ascended to heaven from the Temple Mount in Jerusalem? Neither do I. Did you know that Muslims go to their deaths to uphold that belief? Yes, they do. Does it mean they have a monopoly on the Truth? I didn’t think so. Neither does the Church based on the alleged stories of how the Apostles died. This to die for a religious ideal is no proof that the ideal is true. Scriptures Choy, “Sola Scriptura.” **
Listen Ben, i’m talking about the people who were personally there with Jesus who would know the truth about it. you were babbling about witnesses early on in this thread and there you have the witnesses to the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. if they know that they’re lying then surely one of them would have turned at the face of the persecution. i’m not talking about Christians 100, 200, 2000 years into the future who were not there. we all now live in faith that what our religion is based on is the truth, and yes people die by this faith today because we put 100% trust into this faith. but if a person was there physically and knew that the resurrection was a hoax, surely the Apostles would know because they would be the ones making up this story, then one of them surely would have bended to all the persecution and coughed up the truth

and whats the point of quoting scriptures to you? you’re already read the New Testament as you said and never believed in it. so what will putting scriptures do? why don’t you watch the documentaries from CNN or National Geographic chronicling the early Christian Church based on research by historians who are not biased to the faith. they themselves brought this conclusion up that it was indeed amazing that despite the persecution, none of the Apostles recanted on their claim that Jesus resurrected. and despite immense persecution that Christianity faced the greatest odds of thriving as a religion and yet it still did.

You are envious and frustrated because you know that if it were not for us you would still be in the cave worshipping the stone and the fire, or perpaps a block of wood in the shape of a demon. You would not even have a Bible to read or a Jew to call him your savior. You should be grateful to God that the Jewish People exist on earth as a People before the Lord. That’s what guarantees your salvation. Read Jeremiah 31:35,36 to see what I mean. You are so jealous of us that you even cannot hold your tongue to insult with ad hominem, as you have done in this post #67. Have a good day, sir.
I am not FatTire, but I have to say that you have again overstepped your bounds with rudeness and a superiority complex that is anything but righteous. Perhaps FatTire had overstepped some bounds too (We ought to always respect the importance of your ancestors’ role in our own Faith), but your reply bespeaks rudeness to every non-Jew, not only him.

As I said above in a response to yankee_doodle, if not for Christ’s resurrection, I for one would find no truly compelling reason to believe in the Judea-Christian God, and so why, so far as I can see, would we think we should be jealous of you, most especially if Christ didn’t rise from the dead? You assert that we would be worshiping rocks and wood without you, but that is supreme arrogance: Great Philosophers such as Aristotle were beginning to draw concepts of a First Cause, an Unmoved Mover, not contained by Greek Myth or idols, and they had likely not so much as heard of Judaism. Ergo, it was gravely uncalled for of you to assume that all Gentiles would worship stone or wood without your own people to provide us an example. By now, if not for Jesus Christ’s resurrection, religiously-minded Gentiles who would otherwise be Christian would probably be something similar to Deists, but along the lines of Aristotelian philosophy.

Before Jesus Christ, not many Gentiles found Judaism to have a ring of truth to it, nor did they find it any more intellectually compelling than any other belief system, so without Him, Judaism really wouldn’t have had much of an effect on what Gentiles believe, and yet we would have found civilized, non-primitive forms of religion quite without Judaism, in that case. If not for Jesus Christ, I would probably, being of a monotheistic rationale, believe in a great First Cause of some sort, and probably the immortality of the soul…perhaps miracles in some fashion, even if I didn’t know how to organize them or theologically explain them. Especially with today’s modern world, I doubt I would have believed in wooden or stone gods, your rudeness notwithstanding. Even without Jesus Christ, reason, not Judaism, would have saved me from worshiping lifeless idols. Even without Jesus Christ, reason, not Judaism, would have led me to believe in a single God who created everything. Even without Jesus Christ, reason, not Judaism, would have led me to believe in an organized ethical system, one dictated by common sense and rationality. In comparison with Christianity, I do believe these beliefs would have been imperfectly formed, but they would have by no means been primitive or superstitious; in the absence of Judaism’s or Israel’s existence, we gentiles would be no less capable of living intelligent (key word), religious, and happily fulfilling lives.

I have nothing against your people; in fact, it would be unchristian of me to bear animosity toward the Race from whom Christ came. I thank your people for being the vessel-nation that brought forth Jesus Christ, and for doing God’s will in the world to prepare yourselves for that; and due to Christ’s resurrection vindicating the reality of your (our) God, I would count it a great honor to have Jewish blood running through my veins, and so share that hereditary history; but without Christ, even that wouldn’t make sense, theologically speaking, as I see no evidence, short of His resurrection, that the Judeo-Christian God is any more likely to be the real God than the Unmoved Mover of Philosophy, or Islam’s Allah, who is somewhat the same as Israel’s God (in theory) but wants to spread his teachings to all people, not simply a single nation…which automatically makes more rational sense for a creator of the whole world to want to do, at least at some point in the history of the pre-eschatological world.

This is why earlier I tried to remind you that your beliefs require faith too–if not for Jesus Christ’s resurrection, I would need a most deliberate faith in order to believe in Judaism over the more intuitive and philosophical conclusions of some of the vaguely theistic philosophers, or over the at least universally reaching–not limited to a single nation–claims of Islam’s concept of God. I am actually amazed and impressed with the degree of faith a non-Christian Jewish person must have to continue believing in Judaism, and I sincerely applaud you in having such faith; I would wish that you would place such faith in the Christian concept of God, but still the faith in itself is impressive, and I wish I could constantly have that much faith in my own religion (sometimes, my faith is very weak and only the historical evidence compels me to believe in Christ). I am not attacking your beliefs; Judaism as non-Christian Jews believe it is quite rational (until Christ’s time, it was the Truth, after all) and ergo I do not insult the intelligence of those who believe in it. But Judaism isn’t very intellectually compelling as to why it should be believed over other truth-claims, and ergo requires a great deal of faith, which (faith) is not a bad thing but which you seem to reject as having any real value. That would be a trap of your own making, not ours.

By the way, what history books are you reading when you infer that all ancient, pre-Christian non-Jews dwelled or worshiped in caves!? That architecture and civilized society (who didn’t worship in caves) existed outside of ancient Israel, without any Jewish influence, is so undeniable and historically demonstrable that I could not even begin to express the arrogance that the assumption to the contrary displays. Either you are unbelievably unfamiliar with the history of the non-Jewish world, or you simply wanted to insult non-Jews for the sake of it, accuracy notwithstanding. I need not reprimand you for you to know how unacceptable that is.

In short, please, refrain from looking down on non-Jewish people and belittling our intelligence the way you have been doing. You can be proud of your heritage and true to your religion without assuming (quite incorrectly) that your people are the only thing standing between Gentiles and cave dwelling, idol worshiping idiocy.

Blessings in Christ,
KindredSoul

Ben,
I wrote about the similarities of Christ, Moses, and David in some of my other posts here – especially for those in “The Eucharist; superstition?” Maybe you will like to check them out.
I don’t think Ben will even be interested in this, Angelo Michael. Unless I am mistaken…

Ben,
Maybe try just reading the Gospel of John and the letters of John (1-3). I know these gospels promote the observance of Christ’s commandments and that much of Paul’s writings seem to make light of it. And remember that sometimes people pick and choose which N.T. scriptures they will endorse and usually Paul has the priority. I think it is [in part] because of his misleading claims, his promises of deliverance irrespective of merit, his ability to get away with murder/betrayal and exalt himself above his peers, and his evoking of a philosophic mentality that is not dependent on the Law. Stephen’s testimony and Jude contain “compatible” testimony as well. I think if you read these works in isolation of Paul’s you might find that Christianity is not so different than Judaism and that it doesn’t have to be the way it is now; and that the way it is now is mostly because Paul doesn’t really make sense or have any integrity, nor did he have the humility to handle rebuke. So, when people quote Paul, it’s like he is the ultimate authority but really it’s like they’re still afraid to disagree with him or just plain don’t want to.
I hope this advice helps you.

Even you Ben won’t limit yourself to Sola Scriptura. Moreover you don’t seem so interested in putting your Biblical quotations in the context of the WHOLE of the TaNaKH!!

Oh, he won’t take it either, we are not Jewish enough to his taste…

The size of a religion means nothing in terms of the Truth. Islam has beaten Christianity
in the pace of growth, and I am sure you believe they have no monopoly on the Truth. And so does not the Church.
Will you deny that there are bits of truth in every religion, Ben? But of course that doesn’t make all religions true.
But as for Christianity being a false religion, once the misconceptions are resolved, you just can’t prove THAT, Ben. You take your misconceptions for the right thing!
That having been said, I know many of us also have actual misconceptions about Judaism and about the Jews (I may still have a few left myself) and I certainly will be glad that these be rejected, even though it will never change my faith in the teachings of Jesus Christ made known by the Church…

LOL

yeah, no use debating with Ben. he just won’t accept anything. when you quote scripture he doesn’t accept it. when you don’t quote scripture he doesn’t accept it. i don’t see why we have to waste any more of our time trying to convince someone who’s mind is closed. i bet he’s only appearing he wants to exchange ideas but the truth is all Ben wants to do is shoot down any fact we present despite the overwhelming evidence proving the truthfullness of the resurrection

** 80 percent of what Jesus is alleged to have said are fabrications of the Hellenistic Gentiles who wrote the gospels, because they are not Jewish. Unless you drop
the claim that Jesus was Jewish, the NT is loaded with contradictions.**
To call them fabrications seems to me very exaggerated.
Like to automatically call paradoxes “contradictions”… You have stuck to your conclusions even though you have jumped at them. You don’t even believe you will one day answer before the Almighty for what you have been doing here bearing false witness, sticking to other false witnesses, so what’s the fuss about the so-called truth, eh?

Are you doing that? I don’t think so. Oh, I forgot. You must be like Thomas. You need to see to believe.
What’s wrong with being like Thomas? After all, he ended up believing that Jesus was resurrected, though he needed to see Jesus Himself. But when Jesus appeared to him, he didn’t say it was somebody else, or a ghost… did he?

choy;5701817:
**If you believe that the Apostles were so sure of Jesus’ resurrection how could they spend 30 years headquartered in Jerusalem and coexisting peacefully with the local Jews?

I already answered you on Acts 9, 31… As for the Apostles never been persecuted, you must have skipped a lot of chapters in the Acts of the Apostles, mein Freund!**
(Acts 9:31) When Paul showed up with the same message, he almost got killed. How do you explain that? For sure, the Apostles were as surprised about Paul’s gospels as were the local Jews, who wanted to arrest him.You keep forgetting Stephen (Acts 6 and 7). He was not Paul’s companion! And the Apostles were arrested a few times! Only the fear for the crowd kept the guards of the Temple and the Jewish Council (sanhedrin) from being more violent to them.

And Paul had only ONE Gospel to proclaim, not several, Ben.

Try “The Interview” by Joseph Mendson. I am sure you will find that one. If he is not the same author, he wrote about the same subject.
Tried and failed. In a Google search like the previous book only you come up:hypno:

I also did a search and found nothing, maybe Ben Masada could provide an ISBN for these books.

God Bless.

Quoting Ben Masada from a previous post of his:
Ben Masada;5701790:
The same spirit that compels other fundamentalists to die for their religious cause. Then, nobody knows that he will be killed for proclaiming the gospel.
What is this same spirit, fundamentalist base it on the Gospel? You avoided my question, what did the Apostles base it off of? You like all your other posts pick and choice what to address but avoid the tough questions. What caused the apostles to go out? What caused the transformation from cowards to brave preachers? Fat Tire made a good point in comparing the behavior and optimistic outlook of the Apostles from when Jesus died and from the resurrection. You haven’t addressed this.
The size of a religion means nothing in terms of the Truth. Islam has beaten Christianity
in the pace of growth, and I am sure you believe they have no monopoly on the Truth. And so does not the Church.
I don’t think he was using the number to claim a truth existed but rather that the Apostles and the church they established was extremely effective and something extraordinary must have happened to them to lead to such fervent evangelism even to the point of martyrdom.
Nevertheless, according to Joseph, it was not uncommon for some of the crucified to remain alive on their crosses even up to three or four days till death met them. Jesus was taken off his cross after just a few hours.
The conditions of those few cases that you reference is not known. I, FatTire, and others, all address the crucifixion as laid out in the Gospels. The Gospels are very specific as to what was done. And still given the Gospel account and medical and scientific evidence that the crucifixion was an effective method of torture and certain death you reference one case in which someone happened to survive. Again address the issue at hand.
Nevertheless, Jesus was walking around for 40 days after his suffering or passion, as Luke says in Acts 1:1-3. After his suffering or passion is no proof that he died, let alone that he resurrected.
WOW! Now here you really get thick headed. FatTire clearly quoted the bit about not walking so he can point out that in all cases of crucifixion that particular blow to that area would render the person incapable of walking, handicapped. And you quote yourself that Jesus was walking around 40 days later, so if its for a fact that being crucified leads to not being able to walk even if one was to survive and you agree that he was walking, you have to ask yourself how is this possible? You will try desperately to find a reason to explain it away, the Christian already knows, Jesus was resurrected.
If you choose to believe the National Geographic, you are admitting contradictions in the NT.
How so, this is a vague comment, please clearly state what you are getting at? I never quoted National Geographic, another poster did. But the program did an effective job using science and medicine to show you that you are wrong.

That’s the point. 80 percent of what Jesus is alleged to have said are fabrications of the Hellenistic Gentiles who wrote the gospels, because they are not Jewish. Unless you drop
the claim that Jesus was Jewish, the NT is loaded with contradictions.
Who cares about Hellenistic Gentiles?! Crucifixion leads to becoming handicapped, you can’t walk and a few lines up you yourself quote Luke to state that Jesus was walking. And I think the point that was being made that you ignored was that even if Jesus was crawling and Hellenistic Gentiles covered this up and made it so that he was walking, how would this image of a half dead handicapped Jesus inspire the Apostles to do what they did and with the conviction that they did? At this point you begin to insult the Apostles and their intelligence. It is clear that they were willing to doubt and deny Jesus to his face, so what would make you think that a crippled Jesus would make them change their behavior? The apostles were scared and cowardly Jews in the Roman Empire and yet they went throughout the land telling Emperors and Governors to their faces that their pagan gods were false knowing full well what would happen – a crippled half dead Jesus does not inspire this type of faith and conviction, but a resurrected Jesus does.
Heart disease, I am not too sure, but cancer we are beating most cases in less than 60 days. Seven weeks to be precise. If you don’t believe it get in touch with Sheba Hospital (Tell Hashomer) and they will tell you how long it takes to beat most kinds of cancers. Works with me a lady who went in with high advanced Limphoma and came out without a trace of it in seven weeks.
Wow, you’re really stupid, it’s clear FatTire was mocking your ignorance. In this day and age with the medical and technological advancements we have you can accomplish a lot, but your claiming the same could be done during that time period curing irreversible organ damage using basic herbs and spices.

You still have not addressed this. Answer this point directly: how could a 100 pounds of herb and spices cure irreversible organ damage which would have lead to certain death? Or rather how could any type of major body trauma to that extent be fixed with herbs in spices in 40 days?

You bring up a random lady who underwent cancer treatment as if that supports your absurd claims.

Do you ever think how stupid you are and sound making claims that a 100 pounds of spices can repair internal bleeding and organ damage?
Are you doing that? I don’t think so. Oh, I forgot. You must be like Thomas. You need to see to believe.
No, I’m new to Christianity, and you are supporting my beliefs in it. I don’t know any Jews personally but what I get from you, you’re giving them a bad name, it tells me that you are ignorant, rude, and most of all hateful towards non-Jews.
You are envious and frustrated because you know that if it were not for us you would still be in the cave worshipping the stone and the fire, or perpaps a block of wood in the shape of a demon. I don’t know what the OP of that post was implying but you reinforce stereotypes about Jews. You feel the world owes you and ever Jew a debt of gratitude. I don’t and neither does the world owe you or any Jew anything. You and your people and religion are not special to me. You are part of the human race and are not entitled to any special treatment or respect and neither are the Jews. If you believe this and if any Jews believe this and try to enforce this on other cultures and faiths, they have every right to put you in your place. You do not subjugate others or belittle them to second class citizens because you think your Yahweh made you special and better than others. Shame on you for such a disgusting and anti-human outlook. It is that type of attitude that leads to Palestinians being treated like cattle and being abused.

According to the old testament unicorns really existed

Sounds like an awesome animal to ride into battle (that is if your an ancient guy with no tank). Horn on his head, but otherwise agile like a horse. I think they fly too
