A Crucifix Necklace

If you’re Catholic, you should be proud of wearing your Catholic symbols and if somebody else gets “offended” then that’s their problem.

I fail to see why any of us Catholics should care what a “non-denominational church” thinks of our crucifixes.

i knew someone who brought a rosary with him to a Protestant church. He said that they got really upset with him and yelled at him.

I wear the Rosary and the miraculous medal and Benedict medal, all the time,if you feel so just put it inside your neck.

Even though you may get an emotional feeling or response at that non-denomination church, it’s not an indicator of the Holy Spirit. Emotions can come and go in worship and prayer and shouldn’t be the mark of which a religious experience is judged.

Put the ND church against the truth of the Catholic Church:

can it trace itself back to the descent of the Holy Spirit onto the apostles at Pentecost? Does the ND church have a continuity of dogma and teaching and a teaching authority guided by the Holy Spirit?

Does the ND church have the sacraments, the Mass, the Eucharist (the summit of Christian life)?

It depends on the people and the church. I knew a Baptist who wore a crucifix at a Baptist church. Some people there were were anti Catholic but not offended by a crucifix. Plus the pastor there had a crucifix on his wall in his office. This is in America in a near southern state. And honestly if someone believes in Sola Scriptura, the Bible clearly states the crucifixation and everything in detail. No reason to hide the truth. Crucifixes today really don’t represent just how torn the flesh of Christ was either.

In Colombia, Evangelical Charismatics are “offended” by crucifixes, to the point that they will comment that Jesus is no longer on the cross. Then they will comment about having a picture of your son in his worst moment, and would you want that? The non-Catholics in Colombia are very anti-Catholic from what I have seen. I think this is kinda the same across Latin America but I can’t say that with 100% certainty… I mean Latin America is basically Catholic, but those that leave the Catholic church here tend to be anti-Catholic, moreso than Americans.

Hope, you have some variation on this thread like once a week. You post about how you’re going to leave the Church for this non-denominational church because you like their music and light shows or whatever, then you change your mind and say you definitely won’t. Then you post a thread asking for reassurance that Catholics don’t have to believe something in the Bible is literal.

I don’t say this to be critical, but you keep dancing this same dance over and over. I think you need to take a step back and really think about what is your source of anxiety about the Church and your faith instead of bouncing between extremes this way. Something is off. You mentioned once that you’re OCD. Is that under control?

I am not yet Catholic but have Catholic sacramentals, and it is for this reason that I hide them in my room from my husband who is against Catholicism and holy images.

Uh, I know I keep changing my mind but thank you soooooo much for bringing up my OCD.

The non-denominational Church I attended did not even have a cross anywhere in the building. They took the “no graven” images concept, and the Bible itself, really literal. Knowing that, I wouldn’t wear my Crucifix if I ever had a reason to go back: “But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.” 1 Corinthians 8:9.
Sorry meant to quote you in my above post. I meant that I don’t want to be a stumbling block to my husband’s faith.

I think he is mentioning that because it just seems as if there is a sort of anxiety in trying to decide whether to stay or leave.

You mentioned once that you attended adoration. Do you still attend?

I’m not mentioning it as an insult. Having OCD is a medical condition, it’s not a fault. I’m just wondering if your thought process is being affected by your OCD here. Something to consider.

Besides I only know about it because you mentioned it on the forum. I didn’t break into your doctors office and steal your medical records.

We went to their Christmas service, which was wonderful. I plan on taking a class there in January to learn more about their church. Still haven’t decided on what I will do, yet.

Maybe, maybe not, but again, thanks a lot for mentioning it.

I remember when I was apart of a ND church for a while. One night I had a dream where the Virgin Mary appeared to me and chastized me for not following her Son. Hence why I’m at where I am today.

Ok, well, if you don’t want people to know about it, maybe don’t post about it on a public forum.

It’s nothing to be ashamed of, I’m not sure why you’re offended.

I have told people I see a therapist. I wouldn’t be offended if anyone brought it up because like you said, If I bring it up publicly, why should I be offended if anyone brought it up in conversation?

I agree with you that if I didn’t want people to know about it I shouldn’t have posted it but it’s not something a really enjoy others pointing out, just because I might go to a different denomination.

Perhaps you should consider learning more about the CC before you look for alternatives.
