Hope1960, while the music in non-denominational churches may seem more exciting and the preaching more appealing to your ears, be very sure of your reasons for converting before actually doing so. Satan uses things like music to draw us away from His Church and into others that tell us what we want to hear instead of what we need to hear.
Aren’t you a recent convert to the Catholic Church? Why then would you want to leave? Apart from the Eucharist, why are you staying? Make a list of the pros and cons of belonging to the Catholic Church and a list of pros and cons of belonging to the church you are considering joining. Then pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance in the matter.
Many who join non-denominational churches do so because they no longer want to be known as “Catholic” or “Protestant” (insert church denomination). They are running away from something they didn’t like in their former church and think they are running to something that satisfies them in their chosen non-denominational church.
Regardless of the name above the door, the only satisfaction comes from knowing Jesus. Every Mass whether it is Sunday or Daily is for and about Jesus.
My late priest used to say “You get out of Mass what you bring to it.” The priests we’ve had since our beloved priest’s retirement and death from leukemia 7 months later, have, by their own admission, not delivered homilies as well as he did. But their love for Our Lord has been shown in other ways. The Holy Spirit is definitely with these wonderful men of God.
Is wearing a piece of religious jewelry, regardless of the sentimentality attached to it, going to fill whatever void is in your heart? If so, wear the jewelry whether it is a crucifix or a plain cross. But be sure that it’s okay with the others in your prospective new church. Some people do take offense when jewelry of any kind is worn.
Don’t be lukewarm sitting in the middle of the fence. You can’t serve two masters. You will love one and grow to resent or despise the other.
Whatever you decide to do, let the Holy Spirit guide you.
God bless you and Merry Christmas.
