A stupid order that is not illegal could ignite a war, or cause an economic collapse. There is a lot at stake here, and stupidity is one thing that the US and the world need to be protected from.

True. But that is not for someone to decide on their own. My opinion of what is stupid might be different than yours.

Our system is supposed to have public checks and balances to prevent stupidity – emphasis on public. It is not for some potential Dr. Strangelove character to decide.

The greatest lies are told by those that believe them. We are actually talking about the source here. NYT is more than likely just the patsy! They will print anything that shows Trump in a bad light.

Actually you don’t know what I believe other than I believe that there is no evidence that this story id true. To me it smells very fishy. For instance" Why would someone - who (like you said) is just trying to help steer the ship - come out and tell the country about this. By coming out like this he is begging to be caught. He would have been better off remaining silent and do what he says he has been doing. Telling the world is counter productive to is cause!

The whole thing seems ludicrous. I actually dont believe anyone here actually takes any of this to serious. My 12 year old daughter could have written a better letter than this guy/gal.

That is a good question, and I don’t have a good answer. I suppose the person thought that by making this pseudo-public announcement it might reassure others in the administration who might feel similarly, but not know of this “resistance.” Maybe it will turn out to be a counter-productive move. I don’t know. But the fact that a person might make this decision is not totally unbelievable.
