Who Is Most Vulnerable To COVID-19? And Other Questions Answered

…the overwhelming majority of people who are sick enough to be hospitalized in the U.S. have at least one underlying condition or disease. The top chronic conditions - high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes.

The situation is ongoing. it changes from day today and so do the needs. Articles with titles like this are very destructive and contribute zero to the conversation.

If articles like this are “destructive”, what do they destroy? I think articles like this are very useful.

NPR, CNN, MSNBC…fake news intended always to put down President Trump

Free fake news I guess you get what you pay for or rather don’t pay for

NPR was just talking about that earlier tonight, but they were blaming it on systemic racism rather than being a fat adult with diabetes, they insisted you shouldn’t blame the victim 😉 Don’t be racist!

Just one example.

I thought New York ended up having MORE ventilators than they needed?? (And they ended up getting many to them too. Or at least made available.)

what is faked?
Headlines from end of January to mid-February, largely in reaction to Trump closing air traffic from China.

Now that he has taken largely successful measures that have seen the US through the peak of the pandemic at least two weeks early, the press has done a complete 180° and criticized him for not doing enough.

Can’t win with a press that is “always” right no matter how wrong they were because they can flip the script en masse.

Fortunately, many are taking digital notes and capturing “headlines” for posterity to show how fake the news is.

I guess it depends what you think the conversation is.
Don’t confuse “conversation” with “narrative.”

Articles like that further the narrative but muddy the conversation.

They destroy (or at least erode) any connection ‘the people’ might still have with reality and truth.

The estimated death count has continually been revised downwards due to a changing situation. Whatever is being done, it appears to be working.

The main promise was to tackle this health crisis in an effective manner and to minimize death. You can’t argue with the numbers.

I could just as easily say that the situation has appeared to be getting because, with the increased data collection, the models are trained better and are producing more realistic results.

Don’t get me wrong. I’m glad the situation looks less bleak.

See above.

Also, I’m not sure the administration has " tackle(d) this health crisis in an effective manner and to minimize death’.

This is s graph of deaths in New York. The spike at the end is current deaths to date this year.

Known covid deaths would make the spike lower. So there are more deaths than normal, and more deaths than just by adding the known covid cases. How did all these people die? Some perhaps from other ailments and they could not get treatment due to not being able to be treated at the hospital.

But the others?

The private sector now has antibody testing available

Trump’s actions stopping China travel makes it actually turn invisible

Actually, the original estimates presumed social distancing, so the error didn’t come from not accounting for that. The error was that the models vastly overstated the number of deaths and hospitalizations.

They likely also vastly understate the numbers of actual positive infections, and thus overstate the fatality rate of the virus.

It isn’t that we can’t “argue with the numbers.” In fact we ought to keep arguing with the numbers until the most accurate and reliable numbers are being used. We have no reason to assume anything about the numbers, although what is available at the moment is all that we have to base decisions on — which is precisely the reason we should be continually revising all of the numbers until they best depict reality.
