Well, if you don’t think there is going to be any more violence than usual, then that’s your choice. I don’t think I’m delusional just because I believe there will be violence or rabble rousing (ie burning effigies, crosses, crucifixes, Bibles, etc, or even more killing of religious) if the pastor burns the Qurans. You yourself said they are not rational (I hope you are only referring to the extremists, not your average American Muslim). Well, how is more violence than usual rational? If they do encourage more violence and it does come to pass, then it only reinforces your point.

You ask if they are less likely to commit atrocities if the burning is cancelled. No, they are not. At least not the ones they have already planned. But if this does happen, then they will plan much more than normal. I can’t understand how difficult that is to comprehend.

However, if the burning goes ahead, one of us will be wrong. And I truly hope it’s me.

Then who is “everybody”?
Everybody in the NEWSROOM.
They choose the topic, choose the permamaters. give it lotsa of attention and call it “news”.
What is the real stroy? A sad sorry little man in Florida needs attention. Like Phelps in Kansas he needs medication, not attention.

Like you, I’m a former news jockey. I spent 20 years as a reporter/editor.

I think the straw that broke the camel’s back was about a decade ago, when a national news organization had bought out the local paper for which I worked. One day, during the priest scandal business, we were told to “localize it” by exposing the dirty Catholic priests in the area.

Problem was, there weren’t any.

The powers that be weren’t happy, but we didn’t invent some kind of controversy to please them and never did “localize it.”

I didn’t last at that paper much longer following that.

This who fracas about the nut case in Florida was pure media hype. It sickens me to think that some of our young men or women serving overseas could have lost their lives if this guy had carried out his threatened burning.

Worse still, it would probably have evoked such an outcry among the radical Muslims that additional terrorist acts would probably have occurred here in the states.

Frankly, I don’t blame the guy in Florida as much as the media that blew the whole thing out of proportion.

If people were to die as a result of this, I think Fox News, et al, should be put on the hot seat along with this guy in Florida.
 
There was no deal made to halt Quran burning, Muslim leader says
(CNN) – A Florida Muslim leader is disputing claims by the Rev. Terry Jones that he brokered a deal to get the Islamic center project near New York’s ground zero moved if the pastor called off his Quran burning event.
Imam Muhammad Musri said Jones may have hatched the story about the Islamic center moving to “give himself a reason to call this off.”
Jones “was trying to save face,” Musri said Thursday night on CNN’s “AC360.”
Musri said he did not tell Jones that the Islamic center project would be moved away from ground zero.
'He’s accusing me of lying to him, which I did not. I was very explicit with him." said Musri, who is with the Islamic Society of Central Florida.
The disagreement between the two religious figures is the latest twist in the saga about the proposed Quran burning event.
President Barack Obama and Defense Secretary Robert Gates on Thursday urged Jones to call off the Saturday event, timed for the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Jones said he would call off the event but then seemed to be changing his mind later Thursday. During the afternoon, Jones said he canceled his plan to burn copies of the Quran, based on what he said were assurances that the Islamic center in New York would be moved.
Late Thursday, Jones said he would “rethink our position” after Musri said he had never given Jones that assurance.
Jones, leader of the Gainesville, Florida-based Dove World Outreach Center, also announced he will travel Saturday to New York to meet with the religious leader behind the planned center, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, about a new location.
But that, too, was questioned.

Eid Mubarak to you and your family!

In the USA we allow people to express their positions with few limitations. For this reason, this minister of very small church (only 50 members) can burn the sacred texts of any religion he might choose. As you have seen in the news, Americans condemn the action, but will allow it to happen because of our deep respect for the freedom of expression.

A Republic such as ours as many, many strengths. However, it can only be strong when its citizens have educated and tolerant. The weakness of the nation is measured in the weakness of its most uneducated citizen. The freedoms we enjoy in the USA should be curbed by our own understanding of what is offensive and what is not. In other words, just because we can do something does not mean we should do something.

I think you have taken a good position. Any publicity, even bad publicity, will be good in the long run. I think it will cause some to read the Qur’an and in doing so be able to have a greater understanding of Islam.

Ignoring the crazy actions of ignorant members of our society is one of the wisest actions we can do. He should have no publicity, no interviews; he should be ignored completely. It is a shame that the media gave him so much attention. Now he will be pandering to the media forever.

May Eid teach all to forgive those who sin against others. May God/Allah continue to bless and protect you.

I know that there are many Muslims who are good peaceful people, while there are many who are nuts. Every walk of life has them. The good, the bad, and the ugly. What he was doing was bad, and it was ugly. I do not see what good his was showing his Church in this act. You can call it symbolic speech, but what was the lesson?

I will stick with the RCC. We will continue to say our Novena’s, pray for others who are different from us. Let me show you a little note from Pope John Paul ll

Muslims will not differentiate between minority Christians (nondenominational) and denominational ones, that action would create additional barriers between Christianity & Islam.
Burning the Quran will not solve anything, instead it will create more hatred and anger towards Christians in general, that nondenominational church should discuss with Muslims why they think it’s “a religion of the devil” through documentations and dialogues not through burning, and that nondenominational church should remember that the Pope of the highest denominational church in the world has kissed the Koran as a sign of respect back in 1999.

They cant burn the Koran,its in the hearts of the believers…all they burn is paper,and their souls(for future).
