"The human being is to be respected and treated as a person from the moment of conception" – Donum Vitae, 1
Reflection:
Adult stem-cell research has been going on for decades, and has proven helpful in treating various diseases. This research does not kill anyone. Embryonic stem cell research, on the other hand, only began in 1998, and does involve killing a new human life in order to obtain the cells. The number of diseases that have been successfully treated with embryonic stem cells is zero.
Prayer: Lord, you love those who are unseen. I pray for the tiniest human beings. Free them from exploitation, and free us all from moral blindness. Amen.

Let everyone submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which derives from God" – Romans 13:1
Reflection:
Abortion supporters say the government has no business telling us what we can do in the bedroom. But laws do prohibit theft, statutory rape, child abuse, or murder in bedrooms. Moreover, abortions do not occur in the bedroom. They are committed in publicly advertised facilities, and they tear little children apart. The government does in fact have the duty to stop such violence.
Prayer: Lord, I thank you for those who serve you in public office. Give our legislators wisdom to enact laws that preserve the rights of all. Amen.

"Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her" – Proverbs 31:28.
Reflection:
The early feminist leader Sara Norton said, “Perhaps there will come a time when the right of the unborn to be born will not be denied or interfered with.” Authentic feminism is pro-life, because it takes seriously the message of equality – and that includes children.
Prayer: Lord, you have exalted the vocation of motherhood with honor and dignity. May all mothers see that their happiness lies in giving themselves away in love to their family and to You! Amen!

"He will not speak on his own authority, but he will speak what he hears…for he will take what is mine and communicate it to you." (Jn. 16:13-14)
Reflection:
The Holy Spirit is God, and all he says to us is consistent with what the Father and the Son have revealed. “The Holy Spirit…will…remind you of all that I told you” (Jn.14:26). No disciple can claim the “freedom of the Spirit” to contradict the commandments, including that which forbids the killing of the innocent.
Prayer: Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of all people, that they may not believe any new or false gospels that justify the Culture of Death. Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

"We need first of all to foster…a contemplative outlook [which] arises from faith in the God of life, who has created every individual as a ‘wonder’" – The Gospel of Life, 83.
Reflection:
There are two ways to look at a tree: we can calculate the value of the lumber, or we can be moved by the beauty of the branches. Both views have their place, but our culture has gone overboard in calculating usefulness, to the detriment of reverence. This is especially dangerous when we look at human lives for their productivity rather than their dignity.
Prayer: Lord, fill us with wonder as we contemplate human life and all your creation. Amen.

"When a prayer or plea is made by any of your people…each on aware of his afflictions and pain…then hear from heaven…" 2 Chronicles 6:29-30
Reflection:
Bertrand Russell once wrote, “A fisherman once told me that fish have neither sense nor sensation, but how he knew this, he could not tell me.”
A practicing abortionist once told me that unborn children could feel no pain – but how he know this, he could not tell me either. Research now suggests that babies in the womb feel pain much earlier than we thought.
Prayer: Lord, may the pain of these children awaken the consciences of your people, that the killing may end. Amen.

"Before the foundation of the world he chose us…" (Ephesians 1:4)
Reflection:
God’s choice always comes before ours. We could not choose to be created, because we were not there to do the choosing. From all eternity, he took the initiative to make us and to save us. Our choices are secondary, and are carried out in the context of his choice to give life and love.
Prayer: Father, thank you for choosing us, freely and without any merit of our own. Thank you also for the gift of our own free will. Protect it from corruption; may we always choose in you and for you. Amen.

"To hinder a birth is merely a speedier man-killing; nor does it matter whether you take away a life that is born, or destroy one that is coming to the birth. That is a man which is going to be one; you have the fruit already in the seed" (Tertullian, 3rd century).
Reflection:
The Lord’s dominion over life, and over the whole process of its coming and going, is the basis for our pro-life convictions. To say “No” to life at any stage of its development is to say “No” to God himself.
Prayer: Lord, may we rejoice in your faithful care for life from its earliest stages. Amen!

"Mary set out and journeyed in haste into the hill country…Mary remained with Elizabeth for about three months" (Luke 1:39, 56).
Reflection:
After Mary was told she would be the mother of God, the truth of her new status did not distract her from Elizabeth’s needs. Real encounters with God do not turn us into ourselves, but rather make us more responsive to the needs of others. Religion does not keep us within the walls of our churches; rather, we serve the needs of those whose lives and rights are in danger.
Prayer: Lord, may we learn from what Mary did. Send us to help mothers and children in need. Amen!

"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever" (Hebrews 13:8).
Reflection:
The teaching of Christianity on the sanctity of life does not flow from some historical circumstance, political ideology, or changing opinion. It is based on the person of Jesus Christ, who does not change. He is the perfect reflection of the Father, the source of all life. That is why the Church holds that its pro-life teaching “is unchanged and unchangeable” (EV, 62).
Prayer: Lord Jesus, you are the solid Rock of our faith and of our pro-life commitment. As you are unchanging, so give us the constancy and fidelity of perseverance until the end of our journey. Amen.

Hail holy Queen, Mother of mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious Advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us. And after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary,

V. Pray for us, O holy Mother of God,
R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Holy Mother of God, and our Dear Blessed Mother, pray for us!
Our Lady of Hope, Queen of Peace, pray for us!
Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us!

"May he enable us to achieve what is pleasing to him through Jesus Christ" (Hebrews 13:21).
Reflection: The pro-life movement is not primarily a response to Roe vs. Wade. It is a response to Jesus Christ. This movement stands in the tradition of the early Christians who rescued abandoned infants from the streets, to those who established hospitals and worked to liberate slaves. Jesus Christ came to free the oppressed; his disciples do the same.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I am grateful that in responding to you I stand in a great tradition of disciples who have served the oppressed in your name. Keep me strong in my response to you! Amen.
