A question for some Protestants who feel it is necessary to proselytize Catholics

No, it is a nasty skunk cabbage, Doki.
.

Are you FORBIDDEN to marry if you have CHOSEN to remain single?

Think about it.

If you have two choices, A and B, in choosing A are you forbidden from choosing B? Heck no. You have two choices. When you pick one, if the two choices are opposing, you are not ‘forbidden’ from choosing the other, you have freely chosen one OVER another.

I have two choices in life–I can marry or I can remain single.

If I marry, I was not FORBIDDEN THE CHOICE TO BE SINGLE. I CHOSE to marry.

If I remain single, I was not FORBIDDEN TO MARRY. I CHOSE to remain single.

How HARD IS IT TO UNDERSTAND???
If I want to serve God as a priest and know I won’t be chosen if I say I want to be married, I may supress my God given sexual feelings and go onward. Then when, as Paul says, the burning is too great, then what? A poster ‘casterated’ the FL priest for going back on his vows. He should not have been ‘forced’ to make such a vow.

D again, before you try to change the subject of my post, what does this have to do with the thread topic? Particularly Protestants who think it is necessary to proselytize Catholics?

Answer: Not a thing unless you think it is a reason to Proselytize Catholics. Since you have already stated this is not the case this is off topic. Like I said before, start a new thread or search the forums for the previous discussions on it.

God bless

Wondering if you realize how ignorant this accusation is for many non-catholic churches?

You guys remind me of a shark frenzy.

I doubt is any of your fellows will take you task for such a foolish statement.
i will take myself to task dokimas. just one of my pet peeves. nothing personal…my apologies if you were offended. peace 🙂

You’re calling me out about what? If you mean I asked a retorical question (of course you’ve never changed your mind because you are 100% correct doctinally.) then I’m guilty. My point was that you want me to produce evidence I’ve changed my mind after coming here or I’m here under false pretences. Correct?
You asked a rhetorical question that has no merit or answer. Its a dodge and a ploy to divert from the truth. No I am asking you to provide me with the documentation that the CC changed its beliefs because of a non-Catholic theology revealed that hidden truth until they came along and revealed it to the world.
Sure you do. I mention them from time to time. For example; priest not being allowed to get married and remain a priest, the perpetual virginity of Mary, transubstanciation, the doctrinal perfection of the CC. BTW, these are things that are discussed here so I made my comments.
Are you saying that the discipline of celibacy came from non-Catholic theology? are you saying that the perpetual virginity came from non-Catholic theology? are you saying that transubstantiation came from non-Catholic theology? I am at a loss with your logic, Just because they are discussed here does not mean the non-Catholic world defined them other that to misinterpret, slander, and misconstrued them.
Probably not. I don’t get too far in reading sometimes when I run into things I don’t agree with.
And herein lies the problem!!! You stumble around in darkness with half truths, lies, falsehoods and blatant anti-Catholic bigotry. You refuse to see the truth and be corrected. I guess you are to be pietied that you should be so blinded. I can only hope that Christ opens your eyes, heart, and mind to His truth. Until then you are going to live a life in darkness. sad so very sad.
I’ve read enough to believe that the answers don’t answer my concerns.
Again, you have closed yourself to Christ and His truths.

I can only pray for you now… OK done with the prayers for you, did you feel it? You can if you open yourself to the truth.

forced? no-one forced him to take this vow. he did this of his own free will. perhaps he should have thought of this before he made the vow? i live a celibate life, and im no priest. no-one forced me to live this way. i live it of my own free will. for various reasons. i love women. just not in that way. peace 🙂

Forbidding marriage to a priest is like saying a married man has been forbidden from adultery.

A polygamist could argue that he’s exercising his God-given sexual urges to spread his seed to lots of women. But mean old Christians forbid him from indulging in a natural desire.

Now, the argument has been presented that adultery is forbidden in the Bible, but not celibacy. Not the point. One merely has to look at the argument and say, “But we’re not “forbidding” a married man from committing adultery.” 🤷

I opened up a separate thread on this topic, specifically stating it was split from this thread, in order not to ‘derail’. Please feel free to go address the subject there, all are welcome.

No it’s not.

Not again.

Apple and pear comparison.

Not offended but disapointed. Thanks for the apology. God bless.
God bless you to dokimas. but may i say, i am disapointed with the frivolity i am seeing in much of Christiandom today. including some Catholic parishes. peace 🙂

excellent points. 👍 not to mention, we have a thing in Catholocism called confession. if the priest were married, he would have to keep alot from his wife, and keep things bottled up from her. this would not be healthy in the least. celebacy is the best course. not to mention the freedom you have without a wife. my friends that are married, have to get permission for every little thing they do. not me. and no honey do list, when i get off work. lol! peace 🙂

Because she had not bothered getting married a sixth time and was just living with this one (I persume they were living together)

John 4:
16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.”
17 The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, "You have well said, ‘I have no husband,’
18 “for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly.”
So then we can agree that having sexual relations with someone does not necessarily make them your spouse?

I have not seen much seeking forgiveness on these threads. I asked for forgiveness for the one time I was aware of purposely saying something the way others speak to me. I was looking for the response. I got attacked. (Which is not big deal; just thought I tell you the facts.) I don’t see you or other attack fellows that do wrong to non-fellows. A bit of a double standard.

You can hold it against me for honestly asking forgiveness. That’s up to you. Seeing you are not God, I’ll loose no sleep over it.
You are right that there is a double standard here at CAF. Catholics get away with saying all kinds of things that result in non-Catholics getting banned. Although it says we are all to be respectful of everyone and their beliefs, I have read some appalling insults against non-Catholics here.

Catholics are also allowed to Proselytize, where non-Catholics are not.

The point was, though, that you are on a thread about why some Protestants feel the need to evangelize Catholics. That is why we keep asking you if these objections you have toward Catholicism are grounds for evangelizing.

If, as you have said, you believe it is wrong/sinful/disobedient to God that Catholics choose from among those called to celibacy to be priests, or that it is wrong for us to agree upon a corporate fast during Lent, then perhaps you think we are sinful in this way because we do not know the God of the Bible, and therefore need to be evangelized. If we were to become bible Christians, we would not act in these ways.

Oh, I think I get the award for receiving the most appalling insult that did not result in a banning. And it was from a Protestant. :sad_yes:

Let me repeat myself because you keep repeating yourself: a rose is a rose no matter what it’s called.
I do that for the lurkers reading the thread. It may be that it is not possible for the Truth to penetrate your heart right now, but there are some reading who are not yet ready to voice the same objections that you do. I think the objection deserves an answer, as many times as it is brought forward. There are some reading who will be able to benefit from the response.

A rose is not a daisy, no matter how many times you insist that it is. It may be a rose to you, and you are free to persist in this belief. A person who clings to such a belief in the face of reasonable and expert information refuting it is defined in the psychiatric literature as “delusional”. 😃
Call it what you will, it’s still forbidding a man who wants to be a priest to marry if he becomes a priest. It’s a rose after all.
No, Doki. It is not within the power of the Church to forbid marriage. Any man who has taken priestly vows is free to abandon them, and enter into a marriage. It happens all the time. I know several of them personally.
I would not change my faith.
Then what is the benefit of resisting the Truth? Why cling to these anti-Catholic attitudes if it does not somehow serve to bolster your faith? If accepting what we believe does not compel you to become Catholic, I don’t understand why it is so important to cling to falsehoods?
Code:
I have no attitude toward the CC and it's faith.
I am sure that you don’t realize how much anti-Catholic “attitude” you actually have. I think you are sincerely in denial about it.
It’s not my ‘faith’ (although we have much in common as far as eccentials.)
Indeed it is refreshing that you have retained many important elements of the One, Holy, CAtholic and Apostolic faith. 👍
The best I know my motives they are fine. I have not gone to any part of this forum except the one that fits me: non-catholic.
You are welcome in all areas of the forum, Doki. This forum is made for people like you, who dont’ understand and accept the Catholic faith.
If you notice my comments come after someone makes a statement that I think is wrong Biblically
Yes.

That is why we keep asking you if you think we are “wrong biblically” because we don’t know the Lord, and are in need of evangelism.😉

Using your logic then I must question why you are on this part of CAF; it’s about non-catholic religions. You are a catholic on this part of the forum. Now maybe you can see why I can comment on a thread that the original post does not pertain to me.
I seek out threads like this, so that I can read the (name removed by moderator)ut of my separated brethren. Having sojourned for many years among Protestant ecclesial communities, I realize that there are many who feel that it is their responsibility before God to evangelize Catholics, since they think we are living in darkness. Some believe we have been misled from the beginning,a nd are following a false gospel.
Thanks for your opinion.
More than just my opinion, but the Teaching of the Apostles. It so happens that I have embraced their teaching, but my agreement with what they believed and taught is not my “opinion”. It is receiving what was revealed by God.

Celibacy is a gift, and cannot be mandated. This is the revelation of God in Christ.

The Church does not have the authority to forbid marriage, or certain foods. This is the commandment of God.

You have falsely accused the Catholic Church of these things. It seems that you have done so because you don’t understand Catholicism. Although it has been explained to you, you have chosen to cling to your misconceptions. For some reason I don’t understand, it serves some purpose for you to spread falsehoods about our faith.
Code:
For example; priest not being allowed to get married and remain a priest,
I think you have this discipline confused with a doctrine. There is nothing inherintly or theologically problematic about priests being married. This is the current practice of the Church, but it can be changed. Doctrines come from the Apostles,a nd cannot be changed. If a priest decides to abandon his vows and enter a marriage, then he has decided that he no longer wishes to serve as a priest. It is his decision. No one “disallows” him to make it.
Probably not. I don’t get too far in reading sometimes when I run into things I don’t agree with.
I think this speaks volumes right here. When a person approaches a subject with preconceived notions, and refuses to allow any other ideas to enter, it severely limits what one is able to learn.
Code:
I've read enough to believe that the answers don't answer my concerns.
It seems clear that, unless others come into agreement with how you understand the bible, they are “wrong”.

This being the case, if you were to be presented with any ideas that might suggest your interpretation of scripture is a departure from the Aposotolic faith, you would not be able to accept this. It explains why you must make daisies into roses in your mind.😉

Do comments like this show your real colors (no pun intended)?
I am certainly getting wild in my speculations about why you persist in making a daisy into a rose. 😃

It has nothing to do with you losing your cool. You did that before you spouted off, and continued doing it afterward. It is a separate issue.
If I want to serve God as a priest and know I won’t be chosen if I say I want to be married,
Right.

Your situation is no different than a woman who wants to be a priest, and knows she will not be chosen, or a man who wants to be homosexual, and knows he will not be chosen. The Church does not choose from among these persons.
I may supress my God given sexual feelings and go onward.
This is not an advisable approach in any case. Such persons inevitably experience a greater struggle with sin.

The gift of celibacy does not mean that a person never has any sexual inclinations. It means that they offer them to God, because they are consecrated exclusively for His service.
Then when, as Paul says, the burning is too great, then what?
Some fall into sin, which is why “suppression” is a bad idea. During spiritual formation for the priesthood, the candidate receives instruction and direction about how to handle temptations of all kinds, including sexual.

What you seem to be suggesting is that the grace of God is too weak to enable a person to discipline his sexual urges. Is that what you believe?
A poster ‘casterated’ the FL priest for going back on his vows. He should not have been ‘forced’ to make such a vow.
No priest is "forced’ to make any such vow. They have complete clarity, and freely enter into it. Some of them later believe they made a mistake, and they leave. Some are faithless, and abandon their vows because they are unwilling to pick up their cross, and carry it.

It is no different than a married man who commits adultery. He may have sexual urges and attractions for another woman, but he is expected to remain chaste and faithful to his wife. He is expected to take any burning with passion to God, and walk in the grace of God to be obedient in his marriage. Or, are you suggesting that a married man who is aflame with passion for another woman should be expected to commit adultery?

If I want to serve God as a priest and know I won’t be chosen if I say I want to be married, I may supress my God given sexual feelings and go onward. Then when, as Paul says, the burning is too great, then what? A poster ‘casterated’ the FL priest for going back on his vows. He should not have been ‘forced’ to make such a vow.
Two things:

First, there are many things that I want to do, but will not. I would LOVE to climb Everest, but will not. I lack the “Intestinal Fortitude” for such a venture. I would LOVE to be able to run a marathon, but odds are I will never do this. I lack the strength of will to force such rigorous training on myself. There are things that we all WANT to do, but that we SHOULD NOT do. For instance a man without the disposition to celibacy should probably not become a priest (although trust in God’s Grace can be allowed here). Remember the old adage “There is a big difference between what we CAN do and what we SHOULD do”.

Second, Can we all please hop off the “Bash Doki” bandwagon? Seriously, we know that he disagrees with us. An honest disagreement with honest arguments from him and us would be acceptable, but the cutting comments really do need to stop. Its just not polite.

And I know I do it too, so please feel free to call me on it when it happens.
