Sounds like an excellent homily!

We were treated to a one as well today along a similar line from a Dominican priest (he’s been visiting and helping out in the confessional at the ICKSP oratory in St. Louis for several months). He was invited to give the homily today and what a treat! Like you, I wish I had a copy to post. All about what a blessing and gift is Our Lord’s presence in the Blessed Sacrament - I’d try to repeat some of what he said but it wouldn’t do him any justice. Like you, I wish I had a copy to post!

*[sidenote: My understanding is that Father is a professor of homelitics (sp?) at Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis - and has been called to teach the same in Rome and will be leaving in a month or two. St. Louis’ loss is Rome’s gain!] *

At your parish, was anything else done “extra” to celebrate Corpus Christi (or the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ as it was most likely called there) - like Eucharistic Procession or Benediction? I know several OF parishes had special things going on today. I love to hear how these great feast days are celebrated elsewhere.

God bless,

First, I should clarify, that what I posted is not the homily. The homily also was excellent, but this was a letter from the superior of the house. We have a queer situation. Our parish is staffed by friars, but the superior is a lay friar and the pastor is an ordained friar. The superior obviously out ranks him in the community, but rarely involves himself with the parish, except to help teach some courses. He is a theologian and teaches at a local Catholic university. On special occasions he likes to write letters to the faithful of the parish and they are read at the end of mass. This was a truncated version of his letter.

As to what we did special, last night there was a Corpus Christi procession at the first mass of the solemnity. But I missed it, because my daughter has strep and I didn’t want to leave her alone. My son was out. So I went this morning.

Our parish has a very large campus, almost the size of a football stadium, maby larger. There is plenty of room to have a procession without endangering people by taking them onto the road. We have too many senior citizens. And the parish is on the corner of two six lane avenues. Not a good idea to take people with walkers on a major road. I heard it was beautiful.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re losing your Dominican Friar. I know that seminary. A friend of mine trained there. He belongs to the Dominicans in St. Louis. They’re great guys.

JR 🙂

He spoke on how Mother Theresa directed that in all of the communities of the Missionaries of Charity there was to be a sign in the sacristy that read “Priest of God, Celebrate this Mass as if it were your first Mass, your last Mass, and your only Mass.” He then told us to receive Christ in a like manner.
Awesome!

I heard something similar at an EF homily once - but it was in regard to the Sacrament of Confession!

If you knew you were going to die tomorrow - would your confession be any different today?

Woh - there’s something to think about!!!

God bless,

Sounds good to me 👍.

Actually the first time he’s given a homily at Mass (I was wondering what was taking so long!). He did give a couple of talks during our Lenton Retreat. Great priest in the confessional and obviously a great preacher as well. Very nice and personable too.

Oh yeah. We just had nine ordinations Saturday. And actually, the mass we had today for Corpus Christi was offered by one of the newly ordained priests (diocesan). Imagine that. A newly ordained diocesan priest’s first mass is a Solemn High Mass in the EF!

See:
St. Louis Catholic:
As an aside, if you missed today’s Mass at St. Francis de Sales for the external solemnity of Corpus Christi, you missed a sublime experience. Fr. Houser’s Mass of Thanksgiving was marked, among other things, by the performance of Mozart’s Spatzenmesse by the Oratory’s choir, sermon by Fr. Monshau, O.P., and a beautiful Corpus Christi procession with recent first communicants strewing flower petals in path of the Blessed Sacrament as He made His way through the city’s streets.

It totally surprised me, because I thought he was a seminarian with the Instiutute - I had seen him from time to time acting as the deacon or sub-deacon in the Solemn High Mass at the Oratory. Just found out today that he was diocesan - wow. And that’s a good wow 😉 .

ArchBishop Burke is doing wonders here in St. Louis!

LOL!!

I’ve actually heard a certain Baptist pastor preach against the Catholic propensity for Bingo. The way he said it, it seemed that Bingo was obviously intrinsically evil.

I really struggle with visiting the inlaws’ church.
As an occasional lector, I’ve always had this urge to do the Bingo thing when the opportunity presented itself.

“A reading from the Book of Numbers…B7, O62, N55…” Most would laugh, some would be highly offended, and my lectoring career would be over

That would wake up a number of people.

Thanks for posting the link, BEAUTIFUL pictures!👍

There is no doubt there are good people in both the Tridentine and the NO. My post about the family in crisis was a little off subject,
no doubt, as THIS is a rant in DEFENSE of the Novus Ordo.
There are posts here that are more in defense of the EF than the NO. Have you noticed?

One of the main points I am trying to make is beware. Alot of good people are being led astray. As I have told this family, IF you are in a mass where the priest is preaching against the Pope, and for rebellion or hate, GET out of it as fast as you can.

There are alot of people following along blindly. I firmly believe there is only one person we should be following “blindly” and that’s is the Pope. (cause we have Christ’s promise, the gates of hell will not prevail) Sure we have had bad popes, we have had good popes. But they are still sitting in Peter’s chair.

But, yes, gotta give both the benefit of doubt. Traditionalist, ( the ones I’ve met, the SSPXers) have that “holier than thou” attitude. The “them against us” thing going on. One day I wish to meet a traditionalist who IS in communion with Rome. I am quite sure there would be a world of difference.

There’s an awful lot of different web sites you can go to, but most are linked to this group in some way or another. So everyone must make sure of what they are believing in. I have found that these sites usually have “some” of the truth in them but then you read in to them and that “attitude” comes out. And, unfortunately, it does put a bad light on all traditionals.

I still prefer the NO. I can sit there and concentrate on honoring God and worshipping rather than trying to learn Latin.😃

PS: oh yes, thank you for your apology, accepted.
