A Search for National Anthem Consistency

I heard the song on youtube where the stellar Aretha Franklin sang it and it sounded nice. I wanted to see how it would come over at a sporting event but first, I made a pitstop at a rendition of the song sung by another stellar performer Ray Charles and once again it sounded nice. Finally, I heard how a more common person sounded singing it and it sounded a little bland. I have always been a fan of America, the Beautiful. It sounds beautiful, powerful, and uplifting. I will try to listen and enjoy more of “Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing”; maybe it needs to grow on me.

The phrase “Black national” is a contradiction in terms.

If it’s a national anthem, it’s for the whole nation not just blacks.

If it’s a black anthem, it is leaving most of the nation out.

There would be a ton of reasons to protest the Black national anthem
  1. The Racial segregation and divisiveness based on race in the first place
  2. The breaking up of the nuclear family that BLM stands for on their website
  3. The Marxist ideology BLM founders proudly pronounce
  4. The “Blacks only” focus on police brutality, ignoring that it happens to people of all races.
  5. The claims that America and police are evil, as well as constant insinuations that white people are guilty of it all.
  6. The selective outrage of caring about a few rare tragedies while ignoring the mass majority of black lives being taken, and who they are being taken by.
  7. Justifying violence, and for those that died in the riots that sparked from BLM protests.
  8. The terrorizing of an entire race, teaching them that their lives are in danger around every corner from police when FBI data says the likelihood is near non-existent. (30,000,000 blacks in America, 10-15 die unarmed by police per year)
I could go on. There’s plenty to have a problem with as far as the BLM. If people decided to protest based on any of it, would you have a problem with it? If so…why would standards suddenly change?

Is this a serious question?
Yes. I mean, we can site evidence of instances of racism all day long. But I see no evidence of systemic racism. If anything, I see failed attempts at reparations, i.e., affirmative action, move to opportunity programs, Obama mandating public schools cannot discipline Black children( suspensions and expulsions), etc. Systemic racism against blacks or any other minority? No none at all. We see minorities flocking to America in droves, and that makes no sense a minority would flock to a country that is systemically racist. So yes, any evidence would be nice before we go around using these liberal buzzwords with zero evidence, other than being politically correct so we don’t ruffle any feathers. FYI, I will ruffle feathers with pleasure. I seek the truth.

I hate when these issues come up, none of this helps black people or anyone. It’s just the NFL trying to make money. What will actually help them, and other disenfranchised people? Anything resembling material redistribution, reparations, and conversion to God. Not only for BIPOC, but based more on class, as poor whites suffer also. If you’ve lived among poor people of many ethnicities, you will see the issues are basically the same. Not to say systemic racism isn’t also an issue, but still, class matters a lot.

Removing Aunt Jemima, playing a song, taking a knee, buying a BLM shirt, posting a tweet, taking down statues, all of this is just a distraction from the real issues. God help us.

“Yes there is”

My, what a compelling argument. You sold me. Being that the system doesn’t single out races (we fixed those Democrat Jim Crow laws), no claims are factual. If a system is systematically racist, you could point to the laws that are racist, and how they dictate what races are allowed to do differently. Racist people exist in the world, but “systematic racism” usually boils down to claims of equality of outcomes, which is inherently immoral as you would be acting against people who might earn more, have more skills or talents, be more intelligent, etc… such as myself whining about Lebron James being so good at basketball, and how it’s not that he’s taller, more athletic, etc., but it must be a “systematic” flaw. No, thats not how it works. Some cultures have values that provide better results… take single-parent households for example. Those differences will bleed into results and numbers. It makes logically sense that there would be different results, but leftist folk cry racism racism racism. Yikes!

I guess you were wrong… and your eye-rolling insinuations on those who are correct is telling. Yikes!
Read again…Jason Reid is not an NFL spokesman.as I stated (without eyes rolling), the NFL did not refer to it as the “Black national anthem”. Yikes!

Plus, second generation immigrants from African nations, even those who aren’t rich, achieve FAR greater success than American blacks who have multiple generations in the country.

If it was about skin color, those second generation immigrants would achieve the exact same as American blacks. So, there’s more at play. Sadly, leftists just want the bumper sticker philosophy.

The only “systemic racism” in the USA is the systemic racism of affirmative action, rewarding blacks and other minorities based on their race instead of their merit.

But this isn’t about the organization called BLM. It’s about the song.

Why a BLACK national anthem? Isn’t an anthem that singles out one group in our society not NATIONAL?

Let’s keep the traditional anthem, and focus on national UNITY.

Under the stars and stripes, Whites, Blacks, Hispanics, Asians, and Native American have raised their voices in song, and have fought and bled together for the land that stretches from sea to sea for decades.

Great. Then I would suggest staring with a few books: Stamped from the Beginning, White Fragility, and How to be an Antiracist

Yeah…no need to consider segregation which was replaced by manipulation of public school resources to ensure the status quo.

Truth here seems to be the opinion of the person posting, and any deviation is false.

Who said anything about not keeping the traditional National Anthem? It’s not like they’re planning to play this instead of the National Anthem—they’re playing it before it. Like they’ve played a whole host of other songs in the past.

First of all, affirmative action is virtually toothless. And never meant what you said here.

You’re confusing ‘systemic’ with ‘legal.’

Offensive? Who told you that nonsense?
You know, I actually figured it out for myself.

“No refuge could save the hireling & slave/
From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave:/
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave/”

If you don’t understand that celebrating the lack of refuge for a fleeing slave might not be a tad offensive, then there’s not a lot of ground for conversation.
