A thought I had about the end times and earthquakes

I think you may have confused the parable of the bridesmaids. If they shared the oil both parties would have been shut out, as putting your own soul under danger of damnation in order to attempt to make a fool seem less foolish, is a trick of a devil - and the bridesmaids wouldn’t have been called “wise” as they were.

Good answer. 👍

He will come when we least expect it but he did tell us about the ‘birth pangs’ as a warning. The abomination hasn’t arrived yet although he could arrive tomorrow?

Matthew 24.

8 All this is only the beginning of the birthpangs.

15 'So when you see the appalling abomination, of which the prophet Daniel spoke, set up in the holy place (let the reader understand),

25 Look! I have given you warning.

30 And then the sign of the Son of man will appear in heaven; then, too, all the peoples of the earth will beat their breasts; and they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

I have read this Gospel many times and I read this chapter each time as if it was my first.

Look @ Barnabus Nyowe and see what Jesus says in Nigera

Jesus states that there will be famine, pestilence and earthquakes when the end times are here. This means that either there would be earthquakes on every part of the earth, since Him speaking to people back then would imply that people in other cities and parts of the world would feel the same earthquakes or that he knew that there would be something that would allow the entire planet to communicate instantaneously, the internet and TV, to show the different earthquakes happening around the world.
For reasons of personal interest I track a seismic event data feed from the United States Geological Survey. Seismic events seem to be a norm. There were 42 events with a magnitude of 4.0 of greater over the past 4 days (18 of which were 5.0 or greater).

The Events or Signs that will Appear in Inanimate Things to which are Forerunners of the End of the World as people are describing in this thread which scripture sets forth to disclose the tragic end of the great drama of humanity, the destruction of the city of wickedness, whose principle representative on earth is popularly said to be the Antichrist.

Saint Augustine remarks (Lib, 20, de Civita.30) the events pertaining to the end of the world will happen in the manner they have been foretold by Jesus Himself. However; as to their accidental nature of circumstances, God alone knows the order in which they will take place. Jesus (God) has revealed nothing explicitly on this point, and consequently, (“our knowledge of them is confined to mere conjecture”), possessing a greater or lesser degree of probability. Experience alone as such actual events unfold will put us in possessing of the desired information as God’s Spirit allows.

On earth all the elements of nature shall be thrown into confusion. The air will be rent by lightnings, voices and thunders and earthquakes such as “never had been seen” by men from the moment God created Adam and Eve, (Apoc. 16:18)

Can anyone in this thread say they have witnessed earthquakes and storms of such magnitude never before seen since the very creation of this world?
The destruction of this world by God will be a terrifying and colossal as seen at very events of creation of this world never before seen from a human prospective. Certainly; nobody in modern history and before the time of Abraham has documented great storms and earthquakes as described biblically in end times. I’d say such end time events would be the most horrifying nightmare of all nightmares. But why worry; if you follow a genuine humble devout life worthy of Gods calling why should devout followers of Jesus Christ worry. Even Jesus Himself made mention of these things to His apostles. When such things happen do not fear, your Redemption is a hand.

Jesus says…

"8 And he said, Take heed that ye be not led astray: for many shall come in my name, saying, I am he; and, The time is at hand: go ye not after them.

9 And when ye shall hear of wars and tumults, be not terrified: for these things must needs come to pass first; but the end is not immediately.

10 Then said he unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom;

11 and there shall be great earthquakes, and in divers places famines and pestilences; and there shall be terrors and great signs from heaven.

12 But before all these things, they shall lay their hands on you, and shall persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, bringing you before kings and governors for my name’s sake.

Luke 21"

He also tells us when asked when will the End happen that “…No one knows… not even the Son of Man nor the Angels of Heaven when the End will be… only The Father knows…”
(paraphrase)

No, but Jesus also indicated that the signs would increase in intensity/frequency - it seems St. Augustine is describing the signs as they will be as the end gets very close, or at least much closer than it is now. But earthquake oddities continue to pile up - the DC quake and the Oklahoma quake for example. (If a year ago anyone said there would soon be a DC quake so large that the Wash Monument would sway and be closed for repairs, as well as the National Cathedral, and felt in NY and Canada and NC, people would have laughed. Now that it has happend, people have rationalized it away as ‘normal’ or some kind of ‘new normal’. But it is not what our experience over two hundred years has shown as ‘normal’, rationalizations aside.)

As to the first point (“as such actual events unfold will put us in possessing of the desired information as God’s Spirit allows”) , St. Augustine basically ‘punted’ and said ‘I do not know and as it gets closer, more will come to light from God to make it more known.’

And this has happened - we have Fatima, for example (we await the Triumph), and the Divine Mercy messages to St. Faustina that speak of preparation for the final coming, and we now witness a great falling away in Christiandom - the falling away that must come first of which St. Paul spoke. .

I think if St. Augustine were alive today and witnessed what is going on, he would tell us to get ready and look up.

God bless you.

People who babble about “end times” provide loads of entertainment. When they claim to have knowledge of the coming rapture/apolocaplyse/whatever they are basically saying they understand more about this stuff then Jesus Himself did, who mentioned that even He didn’t know when His Father would drop the curtian on the world.

:confused::confused::confused:

I thought the “End Times” viewpoint of Revelation was Protestant - specifically, dispensationalism. I kept looking at each poster’s declaration of their religion and seeing “Catholic” and “Roman Catholic.” I was surprised, I thought this was a Protestant discussion since they are always going on about “signs” and trying to predict just when Jesus will return (John Hagee in San Antonio always comes to mind). I know I have had these discussions many times with my step-mom, who is a Southern Baptist.

Isn’t the Church’s teaching that Revelation describes events that have already taken place in the Church’s history, not events to come?

I know that Jesus will return one day, but the “end times” as a concept does not come from the Catholic Church, so why are we getting all freaked out about it??

🤷

The end times is not a protestant thing. The Book of Revelation relates to the past and the future according to many theologians, as does Matthew 24.

We have been in the end times since the Ascension or Pentecost, so we are discussing the end of the end times. The Catechism also provides information about it.

So it is being discussed here from a Catholic viewpoint (ie no protestant-defined rapture, no millenialism or 1000 year physical reign of Jesus on earth etc.)

It is being discussed in light of the expectation of the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary that Pope Benedict prayed for at Fatima on May 13, 2010. And in consideration of what Jesus said to St. Faustina about her diary preparing the world for His final coming, and in light of the apostasy in Christiandom we are witnessing - a great falling away that might be what St. Paul wrote about as coming before Christ’s return.

God bless you.

You are aware that virtually every generation in human history “knew” they were in the end times, right?

Can anybody prove that statement? I doubt its authenticity, blanket statements like that almost always turn out to be false.

I don’t know if we are in the end times, but I do firmly believe we are the cusp of a very important moment in all of Salvation History. Pope Benedict and others are awaiting the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. It seems from centuries of prophecy that this triumph might crush once and for all the head of Satan, as she showed to St. Catharine of Laboure in Paris in 1830 (the Miraculous Medal). It might bring about a time of love and peace throughout mankind.

But if one adds in the words Jesus spoke to St. Faustina in the 1930s about preparing the world for His final coming and how Blessed Mary also told Faustina that the day of Justice is determined so she must alert us to the approach of the Second Coming, along with the apostasy we see all around us, one might want to look up.

Things are certainly different than at other times - Fatima is unique in all of history and gives us an expectation of a near Triumph of Mary that we did not have at other times.

God bless you.

Good afternoon, ThinkingSapein,

The thing is, was that the norm according to available records from the 19th century?

I won’t lose any sleep at night thinking about it.

Rock on.

Good afternoon, TheRealJuliane,

I guess phraseology is throwing you. Eschatology is the part of theology concerned with death, judgement, and the final destiny of the soul and of humankind.

Pretty much the same ending book is found in both Catholic and Protestant Holy Bibles. In our Holy Bible, it’s named the Apocalypse and in the Protestant Holy Bible it’s named Revelation. But, it’s pretty much the same text.

Personally, all I comment is that we appear to be entering the beginning of the End Times. That’s my position.

God loves you,
Don

After reading about the earthquakes in Oklahoma and living in Southern California, earthquake central, it got me thinking about earthquakes and bible prophecy.

Back then, the people would have understood it to mean that the earthquakes around the world would be simultaneous because there was no universal form of instant communication in those days.

I don’t know if this makes sense and I don’t really know where I’m going with this but I just found it interesting the more I thought about it. I’m trying to figure out an apologetics view to go with this, if there is one.
They’re finding that sizemic activity is directly tied to things like “fracking” and underground drilling.

If the entire world shook I’m pretty sure we wouldn’t need the interenet to find out. Bad news travels fast…and it did so since before Jesus.

Good afternoon, Rascalking,

You are absolutely correct. And, so were those people in earlier centuries and in recent decades. You see, you have left out the impact of the prayers of the faithful in convents, monasteries and homes, whose prayers have delayed the Second Coming until all the Gentiles (since we’re not Jewish, we’re Gentiles) have been converted to Jesus Christ. Then, will come a great conversion of many Jews to Jesus Christ (like in the early Church).

And, I don’t know the day and hour, when He will again come in glory with all the Hosts of Heaven. But, my reading of Matthew 24 gives me room to hope that we may know the season. I think that season’s true beginning has come upon us.

God loves you,
Don

But we have something that they didn’t have.

“Write down these words, My daughter. Speak to the world about My mercy; let all mankind recognise My unfathomable mercy. It is a sign for the end times; after it will come the day of justice. While there is still time, let them have recourse to the fount of My mercy; let them profit from the Blood and Water which gushed forth for them.”

"Write this down, that before My coming as Judge I shall come first as the King of Mercy. Before the coming of that day of justice, there will be a sign in the heavens. All light will be extinguished in heaven and earth. There will appear in the sky the Sign of the Cross. From each of the Wounds on My hands and Feet will shine forth a light that will for a brief time brighten the earth. This will be a short time before the last day.”

He is warning us now.

I think the jury’s still out on fracking causing earthquakes. What I read from geologists is that it does not cause earthquakes. The 9.0 off of Japan certainly wasn’t due to fracking.

God bless you.
