A thought I had about the end times and earthquakes

You are absolutely correct. And, so were those people in earlier centuries and in recent decades. You see, you have left out the impact of the prayers of the faithful in convents, monasteries and homes, whose prayers have delayed the Second Coming until all the Gentiles (since we’re not Jewish, we’re Gentiles) have been converted to Jesus Christ. Then, will come a great conversion of many Jews to Jesus Christ (like in the early Church).

And, I don’t know the day and hour, when He will again come in glory with all the Hosts of Heaven. But, my reading of Matthew 24 gives me room to hope that we may know the season. I think that season’s true beginning has come upon us.

I don’t disagree with you, but I don’t think we’re in the end times now. It’s no where near as bad as the real end times will be.
 
Moreover, if the bible gives us any definitive information about end times, the one thing on which it is very clear is that none of us will know it’s coming.

Therefore if we see it coming, it’s probably not the end times. I think it’s more the times of 24/7 news coverage so we get all the chaos in the world on our screens, 24 hours a day. 25 years ago, 100 years ago, we would never have heard of these things happenings, not for months, even then stories would only focus on the major issues.

Not true. The Bible says there will be signs.

From *The End of the Present World and the Mysteries of the Future Life * by Father Charles Arminjon:

“Although Christ wanted to leave us ignorant of the exact time of the end of the world, He deemed it fitting to give us detailed information on the manner and circumstances of this great event.” (page 21)

“Accordingly, in order not to give rise to any misunderstanding or false interpretation, Christ tells us that the afflictions and prodigies of nature, which will mark the latter ages of mankind, are only the prelude and the beginning of still greater sorrows: ‘These are the early stages of the birth pangs.’” (page 12)

What do you get from saying the end times are near? Do you feel better? Are you trying to scare people? Warn people? Whenever people preach about “end times” they end up looking like Harold Camping. The people you want to warn won’t listen to you and the people who will listen don’t need to be warned.

It’s a beatiful time to be alive. I thank God I’m alive at this time right now.

Getting a little bit ad hominem there it sounds like!

Well now that you ask, I would like to warn people so that more of us can be prepared. Something big is coming, it is just over the horizon; the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is expected to be huge in its converting effect, for example. Believe you me I am aware of the difficulties in trying to do this! To me, it is as obvious as the nose on my face (i have a big nose btw) 🙂 but so many seem not able to see it. No I have not given nor would give a date ala Harold Camping. I do not presume to know the date. But the signs, so many of them, are here. I wish everyone would prepare their souls by making sure to go to confession, to repent, and to show love towards neighbor as much as they can in this time. Prayer, love, kindness, fasting, confession, Mass - these are all needed now, more so than any ‘prepping’ or worrying about buying the next iphone or 3d tv.

As for it being a great time to be alive, tell that to the aborted babies in the US, who could not have legally been aborted before 1973.

And that book by Fr. Arminjon says this, which seems in a way an echo of what you just said:

“Thus the final catastrophe will take place when the world is at its most secure: civilization will be at its zenith…and mankind, wallowing in an unprecedented prosperity will cease to hope for heaven…attached to the …pleasures of life, men…wil say, ‘My soul, you possess goods to last for many years. Eat, drink and be merry.’”

I too thank God I am alive right now – and I hope and pray I will live out the decade so that I might see the great things that are coming! The Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary has been prophesied as a magnificent thing to behold, and I think it is near!

Pope Benedict prayed at Fatima on May 13, 2010 that “the seven years which separate us from the centenary of the apparitions” may “hasten the fulfillment of the prophecy of the triumph of the Immaculate Heart, to the glory of the Blessed Trinity.”

Perhaps a good sing along of “We Didnt Start The Fire” by Billy joel would be appropriate. When you actually look at the news out of the 50/60/70’s it makes today (except for 9-11) look like a holiday.

Mount St. Helens blew up for goodness sakes. The 2000’s have been blazingly uneventful in both news and disasters

Hmmm, except for that 9.1 quake off Indonesia that generated a tsunami that killed 230,000 people in 2004.

Oh, and the Japan 9.0 quake/tsunami in 2011 that killed 23,000 people and wiped out entire coastal towns and caused the world’s worst nuclear disaster.

And that China 7.9 Sichuan quake in 2008 that killed 87,000 people and destroyed entire areas.

And the Haiti 7.0 quake in 2010 that killed 310,000 people and injured 300,000 people and left 1,000,000 homeless.

The Bam, Iran earthquake in 2003 that killed 31,000 people.

The 7.6 Kashmir earthquake in 2005 that killed 86,000.

Not to mention floods and hurricanes - Katrina for example.

And besides earthquakes, since 1973, 50 million innocent babies have been killed in the womb in the US, over a million a year on average.

Please, I wrote, "…we are entering the beginning… of the Last Days. I didn’t comment that we were deep into them.

As Jesus said, it is not for us to know the end times. So why do so many Christians walk around saying, “I believe we are in the end times”? People have been saying that since the first day after the Ascension. It is correct that we are supposed to live as if it is the end times. We are to be ready and vigilant at all times. But there have been earthquakes and floods, etc. as long as there has been an earth, so don’t kid yourself into thinking that any one era is any better or worse than any other one.

I don’t know if we are in the end times, but I do firmly believe we are the cusp of a very important moment in all of Salvation History. Pope Benedict and others are awaiting the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. It seems from centuries of prophecy that this triumph might crush once and for all the head of Satan, as she showed to St. Catharine of Laboure in Paris in 1830 (the Miraculous Medal). It might bring about a time of love and peace throughout mankind.

But if one adds in the words Jesus spoke to St. Faustina in the 1930s about preparing the world for His final coming and how Blessed Mary also told Faustina that the day of Justice is determined so she must alert us to the approach of the Second Coming, along with the apostasy we see all around us, one might want to look up.

Things are certainly different than at other times - Fatima is unique in all of history and gives us an expectation of a near Triumph of Mary that we did not have at other times.

AAAH! Yes Mary,but you know that the Spirit of God will usher in the end days and the Spirit of John the Baptist.When the sign in the sky comes it will be Jesus in all his glory coming to separate the sheep from the goats the wheat from the tares.This is the sign i await when the lightening comes from the Eastern sky to the west you will see him coming with the Father and all the heavenly hosts:) Yes we are in the last days because the bible tells us that He (God) will raise up a mighty army and if you really think of the armies back then compared to today (I did some research) There has never been a larger Army ever before then today.That is a true sign and also the churches are my other clue to the end of this generation and all the sin and denouncing of God he has been taken out of schools an the government and courts because of the sins of the people and the unbelief of the world.Satan snuck in inch by inch and he is taking over but the church God will watch over with his eyes and his love for his people.May the Lord Bless you Watch over you and keep you Safe always! Jesus also said BE PREPARED,BE PREPARED,BE PREPARED! There is n reason why anyone should not talk about it just because Paul miscalculated,we are to be good watchmen and keep watch less the evil one comes and takes your prize.

I would respectfully disagree. We have always been in the ‘end times’. We have always had wars, pestilence, famine, and yes, earthquakes. Because we have always been in the end times there is no point in looking for signs of the ‘end times’. And so you can never know the hour or the time of Christ’s return.

But there has not always been a Miracle of the Sun as given at Fatima on October 13, 1917.
This alone is a great sign of where we are on the end times curve.
