It seems like Pope Francis understands this and is corralling the cats. He has made what, three statements so far?

If pastoral practice contradicts doctrine, then yes, doctrine has been effectively changed.

And any practice that is not lived doctrine, by definition, is not pastoral.

To be a true shepherd is to lead the flock on the path that is right and true, which is not necessarily the one they wish to take.
