And why is that? Unless you mean that a girl could become a priestess and not a riest, grammatically speaking. And taking the spot of a boy who could one day become a priest. The girl can never be a priest.

Scriptures speak of the Church as being a bride. Jesus is spoken of as the bridegroom. For reasons that we do not understand, God chose to relate to us in this fashion. And why is that? Unless you mean that a girl could become a priestess and not a [riest, grammatically speaking.
Your welcome.Deb,…thanks…you just lowered my blood pressure. I will read on…in this thread.
But still, God doesn’t have a gender. The Church doesn’t have a gender, either. SO that scartched the reason above. To me, the only reason girls cannot be priests is because they had no rights when the Bible was written. What’s right is not always popular. What’s popular is not always right.Scriptures speak of the Church as being a bride. Jesus is spoken of as the bridegroom. I’ m not certain how to word this in a theologically sound manner, so please don’t knick pick what I am about to say. The priest stands in for Jesus when he blesses the Eucharist.
A priestess would mean that a Jesus-as a woman- was marrying her bride.
Hopefully my answer isn’t confusing to you. If anyone can explain this a bit better, please do so. I am a convert so sometimes my knowledge is a bit fuzzy.
You might not like the reason or agree with it but my reason was not made up by me. It is correct, so we can’t scratch it out.But still, God doesn’t have a gender. sorry:blush:Please return to the topic of the thread. There have been many discussions about female priests on the board. Look them up if you have questions/comments about this topic. Thank you.
Don’t apologize! You did very well in your explanation of the Church as the bride and Jesus as the bridegroom. That is indeed the way many holy priests explain the relationship and what the Church says.Scriptures speak of the Church as being a bride. Jesus is spoken of as the bridegroom. For reasons that we do not understand, God chose to relate to us in this fashion.

And the Church desperately needs priests. Yet it continues to allow girls to be altar servers. It would seem the Church is more interested in appeasing the feminists.Fwiw, there are two diocese in the US that do not allow female altar servers, one being Bishop Bruskewitz’s (sp?) diocese in Lincoln, NE. He has the largest amount of priestly vocations in the country. .
Ever think that the reason why the Church doesn’t have more priests is because they continue to restrict females from doing so? Yes, it would be a real shame to actually give the women equal rights in the church, wouldn’t? To do so would be the work of the devil, obviously. And the Church desperately needs priests. You got that right.Ever think that the reason why the Church doesn’t have more priests is because they continue to restrict females from doing so? Yes, it would be a real shame to actually give the women equal rights in the church, wouldn’t? To do so would be the work of the devil, obviously.
IMHO it is a good thing that Holy Mother Church is not a democracy. Each person has a place and is needed. but, no the jobs are unique to each.Ever think that the reason why the Church doesn’t have more priests is because they continue to restrict females from doing so? True… yet all christians refer to Him as God the Father. But still, God doesn’t have a gender. The Church doesn’t have a gender, either. SO that scartched the reason above. glad you at least recognize that… Yes, the Church continues what Christ Himself began.Ever think that the reason why the Church doesn’t have more priests is because they continue to restrict females from doing so? And that, my children, is called sarcasm.glad you at least recognize that… Yes, the Church continues what Christ Himself began.

The only reason we refer to God as a he is because it was traditional and has been brainwashed into our minds. Jesus was a man, but it’s not like he could be a shim. Mary was a woman. Both were equally important in God’s plan. And woman were a part of Jesus’s disciples and they preached just like Jesus did. It isn’t exactl;y that way today, now is it?True… yet all christians refer to Him as God the Father.
… all christians know Jesus was fully God and fully man
… all christians accept Jesus as the Son of God
Jesus was quite a rebel for the day… and did many things that were not “popular”. Choosing a woman as one of the 12, was NOT one of them. Even the replacement for Judas had to be a man with specific qualifications.
As for rights… that is not part of the equation. Did Eve have no rights cuz of Adam? And we have plenty examples of strong and visible women in the OT.
No, Jesus had His plan… we need only to conform to it and not try to second-guess God.
No that is called FAITH.Originally Posted by MrS
